I hate saying this but unfortunately I think that defeat to Leeds will be absolutely devastating for team moral. I can't seeing us staying up. It confuses me why we buy a lamppost sized striker but don't play to his strengths.
He is never going to score the way we play. I also think Sulimanna would be better used on the left wing. I feel for the first time that I think we are down.
I like that the new owners have spent money but for me there have been to many mistakes made. To many youngsters purchased and not enough experienced players. Ralph should have been sacked way long before he actually was.
And Nathan Jones was to huge a gamble to make at the time whilst being in relegation. Now making Sellas the manager till the end of the season for me is still wrong. Look at Leeds, they have got in a manager with premiership experience and they have now climbed out of the relegation zone

Jannik Vestergaard (CB) Leicester have asked after a price for Vestergaard and Southampton are after recruiting a reasonably priced centre back. They had set their heart on a younger player of which much is expected but have been knocked back in an approach - and options become thinner on the ground in January when clubs do not have replacements lined up. This would add credence to the suggestion that they are considering Vestergaard as Southampton are willing to let him go.
Maya Yoshida (CB) Released
Oriol Romeu (DM) wanted by Celta Vigo but I cannot see they will be able to afford him. Southampton may be open to a summer sale.
Mario Lemina (CB) Galatasaray, Besisktas and Werder Bremen are all keen.

Thanks Ed, absolute legend! Interesting to see we are still scouting in the same circles as Newcastle, Villa, Everton. They tend to overpay and reap little reward so hopefully we choose wisely and don’t get suckered in by money and competition.
{Ed002's Note - Tough times financially. And rememnber Gao Jisheng is open to selling up to the full 80% of his holding in Southampton. If he cannot sell it all he would be happy to sit on just under 30% to see if any improvement can be found with a new investor. This has been the situation since the Spring of 2019.}

Where are all the Jones haters now? Extremly quiet. The result shows that his ideas are hopfully starting to get through to the players. I think some saints fans have embarresed themselves with all the Jones bashing. He has to be given some time to implement his ideas. Look at Newcastle, Eddie Howe started off his Newcastle job terribly with just 1 win in his first 10 matches. On paper his start was the worst for any Newcastle manager in a century. Get a grip people and give the manager a chance. We need to get behind him and the team. The club are investing in this window with what looks to be some decent additions to the squad. I think a striker that can get us goals (Easy to say I know) will give the squad confidence and start to releave the pressure on the defence more. I actually love all of our defenders, I wouldn't get rid of any of them. let's hope we can put in the same performance as last night against Everton. If we do and we can carry the confidence into the following games and climb up the league. We need to get behind the club now. Good luck Jones, I know you will be a success at Southampton.

I’ll take the hit. Especially once our lineup was released, who saw that coming. Who knew Lyanco at RB would turn into Prime Maldini, or that a front three of Mara, Djenepo and Armstrong would feel so much havoc. Stunning and a minor miracle.
Jones outsmarting Pep, into a cup semi-final, reaction at the final whistle brought a tear to my eye.
That is what we are after - quick, aggressive, hungry, mean, bullish - now do it in the league and we’ll be moving; we have to get a result at Everton now or this means nothing, although, I think I’d take a cup trophy or two in return for relegation.
In the cups: P3, W3. In the league: P4 L4! Let’s march on and with a new striker in, playing like that, some hope is back.

South_hants_rich: Ralphs football was no different, It was boring and inaffective, for me ralph played players out of position, example; Djnepo, I think the player regressed massively under Ralsh. He literally coached the attacking intent out of the player. Jones has to now reverse that process and I think its visible already. The manger has come in and literally people expect miracles in a hand full of games. Wake up mate, its not realistic to expect miricles with our squad in a few games. Look at Howe for Newcastle! We will start to turn a corner now you will wait and see. You can even see the players are onboard with the manager, a couple of games past Che was taken off and as he came off the pitch he embraced the manager. You could see last night after the match the players wer embracing the manager and the more time he has with the players the better the bond will be. People saying this managers tatics are long ball are ridiculous. I suppose people will say the amazing 70 yard hick Bazunna made in the game was long bal LOL, vome on guys get real.

Interesting, I’m guessing watching from the stands for the EPL games the long balls weren’t long balls .
Ralph was awful in every way from tactics to man management .
The total change in playing style and formation for last nights game, had to be down to other coaches and players. They were not playing into his ways at all. their body language was awful.
Just perhaps he’s listened to them . something Ralph never did.
If Jones was trying to instil a new way of playing that was tactically good and entertaining, yes give him. Chance to get the players on board.
But the team was playing lower league football in the style of Jones . something changed .
And I don’t believe for one minute it was himself.
The new set up last night was excellent and long May in remain. If it was Ralph in charge, a 5-0 win and he would have reverted to a losing formation.
Everton will be the test . if we revert to the formation and playing style that we employed against Forest (you seem to have forgotten this awful performance) then we are in trouble. If we play with the same formation as last night, play great football . and don’t win . then fair play, at least he tried.
Not convinced that last night had one single thing that was a ‘Jones’ .

IF Jones is big enough to except his formation is wrong for the players he currently has and he listens to his staff then fair play to him. They are a team, we all are a team and we should back our club, our manager our players and staff. If he has listened to his coaches and adopted some changes then well bl**dy done to Jones for making the changes. Ralph would never have done that. I expect he has listened and along with some of his own decisions has made the changes we saw last night. That is the sign of a decent manager in my eyes. Again he along with his coaches are trying things out with the players they have and hopfully are learning what works and what doesn't with this set of players. I take my hat off to him and say Well done SIR! may it long continue. COYR!

I absolutely agree. We saw Ruben S guiding Ralph (and shouting at him) towards the end.
Very unusual scenario to leave the main coach in place when a new manager arrives with his own team.
That is a sign of the respect that Southampton has for RS.
Ralph, as you say, it was his way or the highway.
We were terrible against Forest, in fact we had been getting worse.
For Jones to admit he was lost in the EPL, would be a brave thing to do, but fair play.
Ralph was the extreme . consulted no one and listened to no one. joy oh joy if Jones consults and listens .
It wasn’t just a change of formation, but players in different positions . Lyanco as right back partnering Djenepo on the right ……
Where did that come from . I want to see that pairing against Everton!

I agree that Ralph needs to go. He's had long enough but he still doesn't know his best 11. Still plays players out of their natural positions. Tactically inept and too slow to make changes when things aren't going to plan, that's assuming that he actually has a plan. I still think that we need a proper number 9. Someone who can hit the back of the net 15+ times a season.

After watching the low lights on motd one thing stood out for me and that is we used to press high,now we seem to have the mindset of defend first. Jwp just drops deeper for the goal rather than going forward and winning the ball. Go forward and win the ball if you get beat at least your further up the pitch but to drop off to the goal area and then get beat is asking for trouble.

What really annoys me about Ralph is his constant talk of how lucky we are to be in this league, and his mission is to keep us in this league. That he has kept us up in his 4 years here. He never dares to say we need to be punching higher and looking for top half/europe. For me his mind set is all wrong. I don't want to keep hearing from the manager that we are a relegation team. What are the players thinking when they hear this all the time and also attracting players. If I was considering joining this club I would listen to themanger in a few interviews and think no than ks, no ambition.

Aim for the stars and sometimes great things can happen - just ask Leicester City fans.
We tend to set a glass ceiling of 15th ish which suggests “We plod on” would be more appropriate club slogan. If we truly are to “march on” then we need to overhaul the culture. Unbelievably I hear some fans saying they would prefer us to be in the championship where could possibly thrive, rather than struggle in the PL. I could never subscribe to that way of thinking but it shows how a club’s culture can influence the mindset of supporters.

Just a thought, will probably get shot down here but we need a central defeder with some experiance in the Prem, apprently we tried to get Coady and missed out on that one but what about Vestergaard? never gets played at Leicester, had good experiance and left as probably our best defender at the time. Maybe we could offer McCarthy in exchange?

Although I am pleased that the Player is receiving improvement tuition I cannot comprehend Ralph’s thinking (although nothing really surprises me these days) by allowing Will Smallbone to leave on loan when at 22years of age and just recognised as one of the “ shining lights” of the pre-season.Can we assume that by staying would have created a headache for Ralph with Will’s form threatening to eclipse that of JWP who Ralph would never consider dropping at any cost.However ( (unlikely —but should Ralph still be employed by SFC when Will Smallbone returns to St. Mary’s he may find himself played at LEFT BACK!

Guys, there is no way the board are going to sack Jones yet. Its not going to happen. Maybe after Saturday if we loose but untill then I think they will keep things as they are. I would say after his very public comments about compramising his tactis has actually put himself in a dangerous posistion. Because he said he won't be doing it anymore means his way has to show considerable improvment and for me that means a win. If he doesn't get that win against Wolves then I think his head could be on the chopping block. I just worry who we would replace him with

Kwp can play left back. For me when he played at left back for us last season he was amazing and livremento at right back. I would happily play that again

I have to say I didn't know a lot about him and didn't think we would go that route but after looking at a number of his interviews I think he fits well into the ethos of our club. He has a proven record of working with younger players and he says all the right things for me. Passiontae but more importantly he seems to be a man manager. I think he will be tuff where he needs to be but he will also put an arm around his players and get them to buy into the project. Getting players to fight for him is what he is looking for and I hope he gets that. We hadnt heard of Poch when we sacked Adkins, I remember thinking who is this guy and being extremly P****d off with the appointment. Oh how I was proved wrong. We have to get behind him now and show him how good our support is. I'm actually excited to see how the players respond to him. Ralph should have gone along time ago but I trust in the new owners and I imagine we have been looking at Nathan for a long time. I'm actually excited to see us against Liverpool (Although i'm under no illutions). Natahn is now our leader, let's all get behind him and get us fired up the league

Is we had a prolific striker we definitely would have won that game today. I hope we look at that game and think if we can get a serial goal scorer in the side then we could quickly rise up the table.
The last part of the jigsaw, so come on saints I know this will cost a big sum to get that striker but let’s do it now to make the most of all the other good signings we have made so far
