Hearing that Forster has turned down a contract extension on reduced terms so with only 1 year left on his present contract Saints are open to moving him on this summer. Celtic are thought to be interested to take him back.

Gladly. Will force Ralph to go out and get a proper keeper.

Newcastle trying to get lemina for £4m. I'd rather make him play out his contract in the reserves.

I agree on sentiment but the monies that frees up both in wages and transfer fees would certainly help. If we did sell Ings or Vestergaard this summer that would go some way to signing another 2/ 3 players. 3 of Lookman, a ST (not paying £20m+ for Armstrong thanks), a midfielder and a full back would do nicely.

2.) 22 Jul 2021 16:42:22
Agree re Armstrong. If we could get him for £10-£12m he may be a decent fit but I don't think he'll come to us. Lookman would be a smart move imo. I think that Lemina has been one of Saints worst ever purchases.

Apparently Nice want Lemina but have only offered €4 million. I know that Saints want him gone but I think they should hold out for more.

What a waste of £19m! Believe we did something similar though for only about £4m on buying Vegard Forren about six years back. Never should have allowed Pellegrino get his hands in the chequebook in the first place.

Now hopefully Hoedt is back off to Lazio and Boufal back to Angers, and we should have a nicely trimmed squad. Disappointed to see Klarer go, I believe big things were tipped of him.

2.) 05 Oct 2020 19:26:05
If we can get Hoedt and Boufal off the wage bill as well, it will put us in a stronger position during the January window if we NEED to do business. All of the bad transfer decisions after RK left the club had put us in a dodgy financial position. While I respect every player that togs out for us, all the above players were surplus to requirements. RH has done a great job if all those players are now off the wage bill.

3.) 05 Oct 2020 20:19:42
You do know it's not the manager who sets up their transfer away right? How has Ralph done a good job in getting rid of them?

4.) 05 Oct 2020 20:30:44
Has anyone heard anything about whether Gunn is going anywhere? All the talk a couple of weeks ago was that either Gunn or Forster would go but as FF has been on the bench so far this season I can't see Gunn getting the No.2 keepers spot back so surely needs to move for the sake of his career.

5.) 06 Oct 2020 07:41:12
I think there's still a period where lower league clubs can sign players on loan. So hopefully he'll be off to the championship on loan.

I'm just relieved we've managed to ship the deadweight from our wage bill.

Interesting read that. I feel like he would be an excellent fit - similar style of play, his teams can’t defend either, does well on limited funds, but don’t see him as an upgrade if and when Ralph does go.

I think Ralph left Redmond on too long. Ward Prowse not anywhere near his best.

Suppose it’s var’s fault again tonight boys😂😂.

2.) 02 Feb 2021 22:11:56
The tackle by our player in the 2nd minute was absolutely disgraceful! But we didn’t man mark and got punished! However . Bednerek sending off scandalous! What did the referee see no one else did! . any opinions from the Ed’s?

{Ed001's Note - looked like a dive to me and Martial seemed to tell Bednarek he never thought it was a foul as well.}

3.) 02 Feb 2021 22:52:33
But The referee has the advantage of watching the incident again and again . what did he see that warranted a sending off? I’m not even sure bednerek touched the player! And the more I saw it the more I believe that! What is going on at PGMOL.

I thought that we were poor tonight. Maybe injuries/ suspensions have caught up with us.

teejaysaint

1.) 27 Jan 2021 09:41:49
There was only one thing, but a VERY big thing! Wrong with our game tonight. You can not play the high line pressing game if your defence doesn’t pass accurately. Our normal back four, play through and over the press of the opponents. That results in the opponent backing off from a too higher press because they know Saints will beat it. Vestergard is a master of this, spraying the ball around at will. Our usual back line absolutely know the drill, so Saints can play high with no fear because they know they will get the ball. Last night you saw our defence trying to dribble through a high press and even worse, pass to their high press! And they knew it! Second half they were sat high just waiting for our mistakes . Stephens was awful! Hesitant, poor passing . and they just lapped up our mistakes. Ralph should have shouted ‘stop F**** around with the ball’ . if defence can’t pass you can’t play the high press!

2.) 27 Jan 2021 10:34:10
Agreed about the defence but the forwards just aren't firing. Not sure what's happened with Walcott but passing is off as is his shooting. I think fatigue is a factor and we do need to get players back to fitness.
One final question. why so many muscle problems?, and through training.

3.) 27 Jan 2021 12:34:09
No matter how much you train, do leg strengthening, the bottom line is, that muscles and joints have limits to their movement/ stretch. ACL is a classic; look up the structure of the knee, amazed more players don’t suffer ACL problems (I’m two knee ops down so did lots of reading on it) as for muscles . it’s that stretch for a ball, that stretch for a tackle . takes the muscles beyond their working range.

Good to hear that Bednarek has signed a new contract and Danny is back in training.

£2m loan fee plus pay all his wages for a player that will probably spend most of the season on the bench? I'd rather keep looking elsewhere.

I don't think that Saints really want to do business with spurs at all after getting shafted over Hojberg.

It's nothing to do with whether or not someone is loyal to the club. I've been supporting Saints for almost 60 years through good times and bad but the fact remains that we are a very poor team and many quality players short of a half decent Premier league side. I want Saints to be competing against the best week in week out but with the present squad we will be losing heavily which affects confidence therefore making the following game even harder. Then what do we do? Bring a few U23s in and wreck their careers because they're getting badly beaten every game. Saints will only go downwards unless there is decent investment.

I can't disagree with most of what you say SaintGGsy. Ralph's idea of rotating the keepers is madness. We definitely need at least 2 full backs if not 3. We can't have JWP filling in at RB if KWP gets injured or suspended. I hope that Oriel comes back even stronger next season as the defence has looked lost without his protection in front of them. I don't see the point of keeping Redmond or Djenepo, we can't keep playing them hoping that one of them will play 1 or 2 blinders per season. Obviously hoping that Danny stays and I think that Che will come good next season. Tella could be top class given time. I think that JWP and Armstrong will be better with Oriel back giving them a bit more freedom to play forward instead of sideways. As for central defence I think that Salisu is a very good prospect but Bednarek and Vestegaard both had less than average seasons but I don't think there are going to be many affordable central defenders out there this summer to replace either of them. Stephens has had his day and hopefully a championship club will take him off our hands. I don't know if it will be possible to reintegrate Lemina back into the squad provided his attitude has improved but on the form he showed at Fulham he could do a job for us. I'm keeping my hopes for next season under wraps until I see what business we do during the summer but I think that we will struggle unless a fairly major overhaul happens.

Hi buddy. I've supported Saints for 58 years and I've seen some brilliant players and some downright awful players but never have I seen a whole team looking bewildered and disinterested like the present side have over the past few weeks. Yes some of the blame must go on Ralph and his coaches but once the team is out on the pitch the least they can do is give 100% but that's not the case recently. Take JWP. Captain and so called loves the club and should be leading by example but he seems to have gone into a patch where he's not sure what he's supposed to be doing. Most of our senior players seem to have hit bad form at the same time. Next season is make or break for Saints in my opinion. I think that if we are relegated it will be many years before we return to the top flight. We need a massive injection of cash to bring the team up to premier league standard but that's just not going to happen.

Unfortunately I have to agree with most of what you say. At the moment I can't name one of our players that would get a regular spot in any of the top ten teams. Bertrand needs to move on as do Redmond, Djenepo, Wallcott, Stephens and one or maybe even both of the keepers. I can't see Ralph being given much of a transfer pot for summer signings so I think relegation beckons at the end of next season that's assuming of course that we don't get relegated this season which looks more than possible.

Likewise you cannot replace our top striker with a holding/ defensive midfielder. The system was working ok until Danny went off. Why didn't he bring on Nlundulu and keep the same shape.
