Reports that we have made a bid for Sofiane Boufal from Lille.

1.) 06 Jul 2016 08:43:05
apparently it's not true. We haven't made an offer.

2.) 06 Jul 2016 08:54:55
I don't think we're that far along with this one, I suspect an enquiry and not much more.

We have also been linked with Steaua Bucharest's Nicusor Stanciu, he tends to play as a number 10, a key role for Puel's system, and would possibly be available at a sensible price.

{Ed002's Note - Stanciu is certainly available as Lorient has had an offer for Steaua Bucharest's Nicolae Stanciu accepted and the player must decide whether to make the move to France or wait to see if other options are available.}

3.) 06 Jul 2016 11:26:31
Good stuff Ed002 :)

4.) 07 Jul 2016 09:26:11
Now we have a French manager, all the news seems to be coming from L’Equipe. Today they have said Boufal is hoping for Barca, PSG, Chelsea - 'one of the big clubs' - even Spurs (! ), so Puel is moving on and not wasting time trying to persuade him to Saints.

Austin signs 4.5 years deal for 4million good business, proven EPL goal scorer, what are other saints fans views?

1.) 16 Jan 2016 14:03:33
Fantastic work from the board to sign a player who scored 18 premier league goals for a poor QPR side, top work!

2.) 16 Jan 2016 14:29:33
At last another goal scorer
Good work
Come on u saints.

3.) 16 Jan 2016 20:17:18
Pelle now suffering from recurring knee inflammation. We need a 15 goal a season forward. Answer, bring in Charlie who may also need to be managed for fitness and between the two of them you achieve what we need, at least until the end of the season, especially if Jay Rod has any setbacks. That is only my opinion of the reasoning but if correct I don't see any of our current forwards leaving in January.

4.) 16 Jan 2016 20:17:27
87, after all the rubbish you have spouted about the board ( Katherina and les and Ralph ) you now say good work. This just beggars belief!

5.) 18 Jan 2016 19:35:25
I'm thinking the signing of Austin is good business for £4 million considering Norwich look like they're going to be splashing out double that for Naismith.

6.) 20 Jan 2016 00:06:08
Good signing, I do however think we may have broken our wages structure with Charlie Austin . There is no way we would have got him for 4 million unless there was a few add ons and an undercover incentive . It doesn't make sense otherwise .

Gazzaniga signs new contract extension to 2019

What do fans think about this?

1.) 12 Sep 2015 14:09:03
He must be amazing in training because everytime I've watched him play I've bricked it , very shaky does not inspire confidence to the defenders and it shows. but he must have the ability and seems like a favourite within the club always laughing and joking around so who knows may come good

2.) 12 Sep 2015 15:21:26
He was decent when he played at the end of last season and even better during pre season, if he carries on developing the way he has, he'll be quality. Needs more game time imo, should have gone somewhere on loan this season as Davis will probably retire at the end of this season and Gazzaniga will become the permanent no.2

3.) 12 Sep 2015 17:01:26
Well he must show something in training but it still doesn't even get him a place on the bench. If Kelvin Davis is still considered to be better than him he surely can't be that good.

4.) 12 Sep 2015 19:54:23
Well, I think you've summed up my feelings, that's why I asked the question, I was a little surprised, as he appears an average player and certainly not someone who could step right into the first team (even with injuries).

I'd like to see the club sorting out other contracts to ensure we retain them (RK, victor)

5.) 15 Sep 2015 10:12:17
His wages must be low.

19 Aug 2015 14:52:40
Following RK's comments in the press conference there will be one (1) more player coming to the club as first stated it will be a CD.

1.) 19 Aug 2015 15:57:44
He may well of said that but as the club (Les Reed) has also said that if there is a special deal to be had then we are in a position financially to do it

31 Jul 2015 21:38:33
OS reports that season tickets sales are at a decade high, is now the time to think about expanding the stadium?

1.) 31 Jul 2015 23:13:04
only when it's full

2.) 31 Jul 2015 23:42:38
Won't happen until we start selling out every home game, it's on the long term agenda.

3.) 01 Aug 2015 23:00:21
Unfortunately we don't have a big enough fan Base who consistently want to watch the games

Just read that we have been tipped to lose at Fulham at the weekend and this may prompt the board to reconsider MP's position. Personally, I can see us losing and MP retaining his position, thoughts?

1.) 05 Jan 2018 17:10:10
I seriously think that won't lose this FA cup round and also don't get down just because some betting or news site reckons we are going to lose. Just cut the pessimism please!

2.) 05 Jan 2018 17:11:10
Our board seem to have lost their way, and unfortunately willsa I think you're right. I think they will keep faith with the manager until it is too late. I just can't see him turning it round at all. We look so poor, up front, in defence. I don't think we are fit enough, we lack confidence. there is nothing positive right now. We are worse off statistically now than the season we went down. Pellegrino is way out of his depth and doesn't seem to have the nous to turn it round. I think the players have stopped playing for him too.

3.) 05 Jan 2018 17:17:08
I can't see MP lasting much longer at the club if we lose. I know RK came out and said he was safe, but of course, he's going to do that. He wouldn't exactly come out to the media and say if he loses another game he will lose his job.

4.) 05 Jan 2018 20:39:40
The problem they have now is they've publicly backed the manager and if they were now to sack him this would inevitably make them look incompetent
But we already know that.

5.) 06 Jan 2018 05:08:56
It would make them look so much more incompetent to publicly slate a manager that is still in charge. Of course they have to back him. If they didn't back him, you'd criticise them 10x more and have genuine reason to be so absurdly negative about everything about the club.

6.) 06 Jan 2018 13:05:07
saint bod not pessimism, realism
and I was asking for opinion not advocating those views.

7.) 06 Jan 2018 16:58:52
And now we have won I say that my optimism was more realistic than your pessimism.

8.) 07 Jan 2018 14:28:44
Hi Guys It has been quite obvious to all that go to st marys this season, that this side is not giving 100% to the manager, if you read my previous messages its there for all to read. Whether you accept it or not the VVD affair has completely upset the team bond, I also wrote that I expect RB to move to Man city sooner or later at the moment he has no desire to be playing for Southampton If I had any faith in this board that they would put all the money back into the squad I would have told them to get rid of VD at the beginning of the season maybe things might have been different if not sell Tadic, Redmond, boufal, ans anyone else who is seen to be not putting in 100% then reinvest and buy players that want to be here I no its hard to accept it but the truth always is.

01 Feb 2017 10:32:26
I'm a little disappointed that we didn't manage to get a Central Defender in.
Fonte out
Not sure gardos or stephens are up to the job,
certainly needed extra cover, what are saints fans thoughts on this one?

14 Dec 2016 18:25:43
So Puel has said that Austin's injury presents an opportunity.
Yes to purchase a new striker in the January window.
We do not have a replacement in the current squad.
Hopefully Jay or Long will start to find the net and prove me wrong.

27 Nov 2016 19:38:59
Josh Sims - excellent debut

Apparently Koeman wasn't aware of him when he was the saints manager - probably a reflection of how much time he bothered to look at our youth system then?

1.) 28 Nov 2016 09:02:14
I think that koeman not being interested in our youth was the main reason Saints board wanted him out.

2.) 28 Nov 2016 11:20:29
It was high up on the list as well as Koemans demands for a big transfer kitty to 'push' us on. Again overlooking our youth and pushing them further down the line.

Yesterday Sims and how Saints had let McQueen's contract run into its final year are both examples of Koemans lack of faith in the youth and why we didn't give into his demands and ultimatly let him go. Not the other way round.

3.) 28 Nov 2016 18:38:12
Mcqueen's contract would be nothing to do with Kidman that's for reed to sort listen to virgils comments when he said he was badly treated nobody knows the truth.
Let's hope Mcqueen signs but you can't keep 3 left backs happy so who goes plus there is another 16 year old in the academy who has as already played u23 coming through.
I just wish we had played a couple in third Cedric and Bertrand gave us much more stability and width.

4.) 29 Nov 2016 11:45:25
My nephew is 19 - lives in shirley - he went to college with 2 academy players in Saints FC - one is a good friend he has known since they were 5 years old - so very close - he said end of last season that the academy players were very happy that Koeman moved on and that they felt there was no progress from the academy into the senior team, that they would play Saints Academy then be moved off into the lower leagues - that was their feeling. Now players are starting to be used again they are much happier and can see progression.

06 Nov 2016 16:26:17
Thinking about our goals scored to chances created, I wondered what others thought about this?
I think we need to invest in another proven goal scorer in January.

1.) 06 Nov 2016 20:36:55
I agree. Tadic has made the most chances made in the league but no assists! I think we took our foot off the gas a bit when we should have gone ahead and killed it off. But we looked pedestrian until they scored. We need an out and out striker Austin does score a lot but he misses a lot too. Plus 3 of his goals have been pens haven't they? Lol.

Let's hope we take the FA cup performance into the next game, must win, as other seemingly struggling teams who have changed their manager have now started to put results together, 19th with so many teams compacted and all adding quality to their sides, 14 games left.
Let's hope new signings make a difference, or the manager, uses a different system.

Really good post south_hants_rich. Some fans may perceive it to be pessimistic in approach but I think its realism. I, like many others on this site are hugely passionate about Southampton FC and having been a fan since 1979 and seen some wonderful highs and not so wonderful lows, this period of time is a deep low. We are rudderless.
I also believe the discourse from the chairman has changed too, regarding expectations of the club, including us being a small club, competition in the league increasing (and us seemingly unable to adapt to this change of perspective), and the VVD saga being a contribution to this low. I think it's an absolute farse to suggest this and not just own up and admit the appointment was a poor judgement on their behalf.
I believe, if we do appoint new players, we will not improve results, not because I'm a pessmistic, (in fact I'm an optimist (albeit a realistic optimist) but purely because we have a very poor manager who is extremely inflexible in his approach, and I don't see an improvement week in week out.
Our style of play has gone backwards and that's difficult to accept when a 'we march on' mantra is being advocated by the club. The current situation stinks of the 2004/ 2005 season and we know what happened in May of that season.

Long time since I've posted and I'm in reflective mood.
Really good posts, I was asking for change pre-Christmas, things have not improved and now the manager is abdicating responsibility for our continued stuttering. I agree players need to play, but the systems/ tactics that are being used are defensive and negative. Playing one forward every game and trying to hold the ball without creating chances is why we are where we are.

I think we will go down because we don't score very often and appeared to have lost our resilience and fight. Our defence is leaky and players look out of sorts, with a manager bereft of any creative ideas of how to turn things around, I'm not surprised. I do feel the board need to take the criticism too
and I really don't think a change will occur until next season, or maybe the board will keep faith in MP to push for a promotion after the relegation?

I can't see where our next win in the league will come from but hope every game I'm proven wrong
very disappointing and frustrating.

figo, I always find your posts pragmatic, so thanks for sharing
not being picky but aspiring to 'perfect' isn't on my mind, being good enough is, and we clearly aren't that. I think the players have lost confidence in MP TBH.
The transfer window dealings will not improve the situation, when you consider the changes other teams have made, the systems need to change
As you looking for a long-term change of manager (if a change occurs), well I'd take a short-term solution now, to keep us in the league, reactive yes, but something needs to change fast, if something isn't working get it fixed

We look like a team struggling at all areas of the pitch

Seen Mark Hughes has been mentioned as a media replacement, and you're right there are few quality managers available at the mo,
Frustrating watching this.

Agree, (not about the killing though),
the whole country can see this, so why not the board
Will a replacement occur, I'm not sure it will, the board have publicly stated it
I hope we find a solution soon,

I don't see it happening, the board have publicly backed the manager (good for confidence, his only by the look of it), and to get rid will appear a monumental contradiction
1 win in 16 is not good enough
good enough is about relative progress, unfortunately our progress appears negative, struggle to create clear chances, score and we look out of sorts

coupled with a manager who is clueless tactically, uninspiring football
CP was slated for being boring, for the football he advocated and the interviews he gave, I'm not sure he was that boring now

so where do we and the board go from here?
