Romeo Lavia from Man City deal done

Another 7 expected to be coming in
Liam Delap (Rory Delap's son), Joe Aribo and Levi Colwill should be 3 of them

Joe Shields also joining from city as head of recruitment

Good work thus far. Would still like a bit of experience added, but I understand the attraction of buying promising youth for good prices. Also needing goal scorers! We won’t get a 20 goal a season player, but I do like Dennis and think he would be excellent.

Instead, we need some developing strikers or goal scoring midfielders who will chip in to get us a total of 60-70 goals through the season.

any ed's know what's going on with Salisu?
Heard he's stopped talks with Rennes in favour of talking to Southampton but he's unlikely to get a UK work permit.

SaintySaintSaint

{Ed002's Note - Mohammed Salisu (CB) Norwich were very keen on taking the Valladolid centre back in January but will face opposition from Wolves, Southampton and Everton. Manchester United and Valencia have been credited with scouting the player by his club, but they have also said the are in talks with Atletico Madrid. Rennes agreed a fee with Valladolid for Salisu but his agent rejected a move to France in favour of a move to the Premier League. He will see what options are available.}

not sure how many of you knew this already but Martyn Glover is set to take over as Head scout on June 1st. Signed a contract in April but has to wait for his Everton contract to run out.

(don't post if not appropriate eds)

Heard some interesting things about Forster and the GKing situation just lately

Without going into too much detail word is that Forster had been battling depression since he had his knee injury and a combination of a relationship breakup and other issues in his personal life along with Spurs putting 5 past us on boxing day led to him having a breakdown. Which was the major reason for his dip in form

One of the reasons he refused a move in the summer is because he felt he couldn't handle the pressure of being a no 1 somewhere else and the club agreed he could stay (supposedly) on reduced wages.

Along with that he has been the GK who's impressed RH the most during training and he's more open to McCarthy being moved on than Forster.

A very believable (but sad) story. We forget that footballers are all human and actually real people! When we are going through a bad time, splitting up with a loved one, we can hide within our lives, family and friends. but footballers can't. When we have an injury, be that a bad back or something more serious, it affects our lives . but rarely our career. I met a young player recently who was out with a knee problem for many months, he was clearly down about it.
But . personal problems or not . the harsh reality is . Is FF really that good a goal keeper . mmmm.

So that's Salisu and KWP done

Hopefully the rumours of a left footed winger, McKennie and Antonee Robinson are true. We'll be flying next season if so.

SaintySaintSaint

1.) 13 Aug 2020 15:36:35
Would love to see Mckennie come to Saints although I don't think it will happen. I thought that Robinson was a left sided defender not a winger.

2.) 15 Aug 2020 09:39:41
Ed’s are we even looking into Mckennie as a signing.

{Ed002's Note - Weston McKennie (CM) wants to play in the Premier League and watched by Brighton, Everton and Crystal Palace, but the smarter scouts should have noticed that Schalke have a far better midfield player in Suat Serder which is where the efforts should be going. Hertha Berlin had a declared interest and plenty of money but the player rejected to move as he wants to be playing European football. He could be sold a project but Schalke are looking for €40M for the player and that makes any transfer difficult.}

3.) 15 Aug 2020 16:36:33
Thank you, so is do we have any possible likely replacements for PEH lined up?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of anyone being "line up". Enquiries were made about the availability of Ozan Tufan and Sanson.}

Best ever premier league away form

Worst ever premier league home form

Wonder if there's a single issue or if there's 32,000 of them. 🤷‍♂️.

No one at the arsenal game. The home atmosphere can get pretty sour quick granted but it seems to be more of a blip. These fans are the same as any other year. Hopefully now we've hit that magical 40 points they can play with less pressure and with a couple of winnable home games (on paper) it would be nice to see the team squash any feeling they might have about always losing at home.

eds

any known interest from prem teams (not just southampton) in Aaron Hickey at Hearts? Reckon he'd be a decent shout.

SaintySaintSaint

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

Word out of the club is that Valery failed an internal drug test and was suspended by the club for 3 months. That's what his 'virus' was.

SaintySaintSaint

1.) 22 Feb 2020 18:03:48
That is EXACTLY what i suggested about 2 weeks ago. To be training so long and not play a game could only have meant that.
Lucky he didn't fail an FA one the ban would have been much longer.

GET IN! PROPER GOOD 2ND HALF THAT.

1.) 09 Mar 2019 17:57:06
Hi guys,

Watching the game here in the USA really feared for the worst in the first half but what a turn round! Absolutely right no sitting back but going for it, 30 from 30 now and those 3 points were a total bonus,3 weeks to get everyone fit and we are not relying on other teams, great to knock arrogant spurs down and just shows how unlucky we were against Utd. coys.

2.) 10 Mar 2019 02:31:44
Bloody good second half from Saints. I think after the first half the spuds came out thinking that a few more goals were going to come but when Saints upped their game the spuds couldn't find another gear. 2 very good games against top opposition in the last two weeks. Thought that we deserved something from Man U but 3 points today was probably more than everyone expected. Could have done without the 3 week break now really as we're on a roll but hopefully everyone will be fit and raring to go for the last 8 games.

3.) 11 Mar 2019 10:01:04
First game I've watched this season where I feel that we've been the "lucky team" - with Spurs squandering all their chances. They could've easily been 4-0 up at half time. But their decision making in front of goal wasn't great. We came out in the second and played great football, Redmond could've scored 2 himself.
Even though we were lucky, Spurs could've easily had a few red cards. Vertonghen high boot, Walkers-Peters tackle off the ball and Sissoko headbutt.

There is absolutely no way a club that has just avoided relegation for the last couple of seasons will sign a guaranteed 15 goal plus striker, they’re going to top 6 sides for mega money
However it is clear that although we didn’t bring a striker in, the ambition is there to bring one in should we need one
But with AdArma scoring and Che’s form we might not!

Saintkenny 8 goals and 6 assists isn’t a bad return from someone playing centre mid

This is a *new* board, it’s their first summer and so far they’ve been proactive, revamping the coaching staff and buying (so far) two of the most highly rated youth players in Europe with another two lined up. Without btw, selling any of our current players first

Last season the quality of the squad wasn’t the issue - proven by the fact that between December and March we were the most in form team besides city, losing just twice. The issue was squad depth - injuries and fatigue caught up and cost us

Yes it would be lovely to buy a proven 10/15/20 goal a season striker but as saintjay pointed out transfer fee wise that’s not realistic in the current market and as one of the ed’s pointed out before the club are very close to their financial fair play limits so even if they had £50+ million to blow on a striker they couldn’t offer them the wages they’d want anyway

What are you moaning about? We’re less than 3 weeks into the transfer window with two players signed, 22 million spent and at least another two who are joining imminently

Literally cannot please Southampton fans

Djenepo has had a great pre season imo
Although the only reason he has been playing at wing back is because Perraud has been injured and Small is on loan, doubt Ralph sees him as an option there once Perraud is fully back and even less so once Livramento is fit

I mean, it’s the first two games of pre-season, it’s more for giving everyone minutes, getting everyone up to match fitness and a chance to prove themselves than finalising the team and playing everyone in proper positions

If there’s still no settled shape/lineup vs Villarreal, then yeah there’s a problem but not now

I’d agree that on paper that side is the best though

I’d go with 5
Can’t see us getting anything from spurs and Chelsea, can see a draw from Leicester and utd and we’ll beat Leeds

Would like to see Armstrong given more time, Che struggled his first season and arguably got more game time. There’s a player there, needs a run in the team and some confidence but he and Che together would net us 15-20 a season between them

Don’t want Ings anywhere near the club, bloke was finished, the club saved his career, gave him a platform to perform and at the first opportunity foxtrot oscared. Now it’s backfired on him so we should do it all again? No
