So after some time reflecting over the last couple of days this is my humble opinion. We have had a fantastic end of the window with some good quality players joining the squad which gives me some hope for the season ahead. Hopefully Archer can fill the void of a top quality goal scorer as I feel this is the only position we didn’t really fill but I was ecstatic when I saw that we had stumped up the cash to get Ramsdale in.
Now for the tactics, I get what RM is trying to achieve in his philosophy of total football and when it works it looks fantastic and is a real pleasure to watch. Beginning of last season felt very familiar to now and it took time for players to bed in to what he was trying to implement on the pitch. I fear that simply we do not have the quality in the back three currently to play this way at this level and continuing to do so is suicidal for any manager.
Work on it more in training and implement it later on the pitch. Focus on getting the ball into the midfield and go from there. If that had been the case in the opening three game we would have only conceded one goal so far as all the others have stemmed from silly mistakes from the back three. I would love to see us be able to play this way and given time to work on it more possibly it may be possible but I fear that if this continues now RM won’t have the luxury of time and will be gone within the next ten games as we will continue to lose due to silly costly errors at the back.
It doesn’t matter how good your keeper is, no keeper stands a chance keeping a clean sheet with mistakes like the ones we have seen in the edge of our own 18 yard box. The possession style can stay but it has to be played in front of the defence not amongst it on the edge of our own box if we/RM are to stand any chance of survival. I hope RM figures this out quickly as I think he could do really well for us if he gets given the time and adapts as all truly successful managers do.

Rambo is the distributor and decider. He sees what’s in front and where the opposition is. He is very experienced. Trust him, If he mixed it up a little and gad his preferred outlet say KWP and works on comms with his back line we will be ok: McCarthy mixed it up in the final. What’s RM going to do if some are kicks out? Nothing he ain’t going to drop Rambo:

Football insider reporting exclusive RM fighting to survive. Looks like he may only have until end of Sep. Not rocket science is it. But he will not change imo so suspect Potter waiting in wings

Apparently Sulemana and Onuachu are done deals. What’s everyone’s opinions?
1.) 31 Jan 2023 17:07:40
Excited if it’s true. Still got to get them over the line but exciting and the owners appear to be putting their money where their mouth is
2.) 31 Jan 2023 23:11:06
Onuachu is exactly what we need, he’s a big lump who is terrific in the air. Get those crosses in and he will score but don’t ask him to hold the ball up as that is not his game. Sulemana…. Haven’t got a clue why we signed him, another winger?

Has anyone heard anything concrete regarding our urgent need for a number 9. Once again we seem to be leaving a long known issue until very late in the window which inevitably will lead to a panic but in the last couple of days and paying over the odds for a mediocre player.
{Ed002's Note - The club will keep trying.}

Couldn’t agree more! Every Saints fan/ pundit/ reporter etc etc has known for 18 months what the team needs but apparently our recruitment team are failing to find that goal scoring centre forward.Very disappointing especially with what is at stake.

According to the mail Jesse marsch will not be our new manager with the board not keen on a long term contract. A wide decision on from the board in my opinion given his time at Leeds. I think if the managers being named are the best available we would be better sticking with Selles at this time. Realistically a manager of the calibre of potchetino etc are not going to risk a blemish on their record with relegation so likely for us right now. RS knows this group of players and the club philosophy. Give him the time and when the right man for the job is ready they can be appointed.
1.) 15 Feb 2023 16:14:36
There is no one that knows the players like RS .
2.) 15 Feb 2023 18:56:49
You’re right Rich but can he manage and motivate the dressing room and provide the quality of leadership that’s required.
Maybe he can, I just don’t know enough about his character ….
3.) 16 Feb 2023 03:14:01
How about Thomas Tuchel.
4.) 16 Feb 2023 12:06:32
The players may raise their game slightly on Saturday but once the first goal goes in the Players know there is no manager and can hide behind the fact we're a rudderless ship,I'm finding it difficult to be against SR as they've backed us but I don't think it will be long before the banners are out ie Everton telling them how bad the club is being run

Jones has been sacked. Club confirmed sellers to take charge. Who do you think we can replace him with realistically at this point?
1.) 12 Feb 2023 10:03:12
Give Rubén S a chance. knows the players inside out, knows there strengths and weaknesses and commands great respect from the players. The fact they left him first team lead coach, while Jones brought his inexperienced rabble with him, tells you the club regard him highly.
If Carlsberg made Sundays .
2.) 12 Feb 2023 10:08:18
Thank God for that. The man demeaned the club. At this stage we can only see what Selles has got now that he has some latitude
3.) 12 Feb 2023 10:13:10
Selles till the end of the season then they'll know the squad for the championship to have a go at coming back.unfortunately unless we win a couple of games before the end of the season we'll start next season with the same negativity as we have now the only plus is they have promised to stick by us so should have a few quid more than most others
4.) 12 Feb 2023 10:15:46
In the position we are in with the squad we have I would give it to Big Sam. I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but we need some form of experience in the team and that can't come from the player's at the moment. Or long shot Poch, highly unlikely but at the end of the season you will have him,Thucel and simione and maybe Conte available and that many top clubs don't become around that often so would get him back in the game.
5.) 12 Feb 2023 10:25:51
Selles should get the job until the end of the season. A new appointment would be on a hiding to nothing and would probably get blamed for our inevitable relegation. I don’t think sports republic are bothered by the thought of relegation which I find bemusing.
6.) 12 Feb 2023 19:10:07
Big Sam who quit football to be a poker player we can still possibly get out of this and IF we do we have a hell of a squad for next season. Get behind the team selles for now and maybe till the end of the season we had Ralph out then Jones out not long ago purl out Norman and Poch walked for greener pastures. We need stability
11 Feb 2023 20:01:55
How is it that he is still in the job. I have been expecting something to be released by now if he was gone. He has to go. Every week has been excuse after excuse. He is the man behind the tactics. If the players aren’t getting his tactics by now then it has to be an issue on the training ground because this is just embarrising. I love my club but this is too much

As good as it would be to add some silverware. Realistically if we did get past Newcastle on Tuesday which would be a massive surprise I very much doubt we would defeat Man U and it would be the same as the last time we played them at Wembley. I remember being in the stands that day and our team now is way below that level. And if by some miracle they did pull it off the shine would soon be lost by a relegation. Staying in the prem has to be our priority. Signing a striker who can score 8-10 goals in the next 18 games is a must. Failure to do that all but dooms us to championship next season!
