BBC reporting our interest in these players:

Alberth Elis, Forward (Boa Vista)
Junior Firpo, Defender (Barcelona)

Would love Firpo. Hope is that Barcelona need a lot of players off their books so to snap him up for seven figures would be excellent.

Elis would be a bit of a gamble but could provide that bit more than our other wingers. Good to see that ‘hopefully’ we’re trying to get business done early.

NEW SIGNING -

Romain Perraud, left back from Brest, £8,500,000. Let's hope he has the same impact Bertie had all those years ago!

OK Spoiler alert this is just for fun, repeat fun, although I am quite serious about the players I would ship out.

I do think we need a back to front rebuild, but we have no money, so for fun what funds can I generate and how could I spend it and on what quality.

Transfermarket. co. uk has been used for a baseline of value, prices in pounds.

OUT
McCarthey (GK) 5M, Forster (GK) 4M, Gunn (GK) 5M, Vestergaard (CB) 20M, Valery (RB) 5M, Lemina (CM) 7M, Redmond (LW) 12.5M, Djenpo (LW) 12.5, Elyounoussi (LW) 10M, Ings (F) 25M, Obafemi (F) 4M, Long (F) 0. TOTAL 110M.

IN
Soria (GK) 12.5M, Bachmann (GK) 1M, Firpo (LB) 15M, Antonee Robinson (LB) 5M, Marcos Sensi (CB) 16M, Kent Tete (RB) 4M, Teun Koopmeiners (DM) 15M, Arnaut Danjuma (LW) 15M, Minamino (LW) loan, Ryan Gauld (RW) 3.5M, Gianluca Scamacca (F) 15M, Randel kolo mauni (F) 8M TOTAL 110M.

Spending our own money

Current squad kept; Adams, JWP, Diablo, Tella, Romeu, Walcott, Smallbone, Jankewitz.

What funds could you generate?, and who would you buy? .

Great idea my friend, but too many non English coming in, I would like to keep Janick from your list.

I forgot Dan nlundulu and Stuart Armstrong to round out the 25, which still gives us 8 homegrown (at a pinch jankerwitz will homegrown soon) .

I don’t want jannick gone either, but the object was how to raise money to spend.

Give it a go.

06 Jun 2021 10:53:15
Why not try and keep Vestergaard and Ings. Still generating 65mil. I’d buy Sam Johnstone, Pereira and van Aanholt as they have prem experience. Tan Ganga could also be a shout as he struggles to get regular football and is a good utility man. Thoughts?

Forgive me for not doing cartwheels over Everton announcement today that Walcott is being released. There probably is a place for Theo in our squad but a two year contract seems unnecessary - 12 months and see how we go. If he turned it down then good luck elsewhere. He will have a bit part role at best next season and if history is anything to go by, much of it will be spent on the bench or in the treatment room.
Unfortunately, most of our transfer news is dominated by potential outgoing players. Fortune favours the brave - let's get active in the market, starting with a goalkeeper!

Just seen that JWP not in the England 26 but players like Henderson who have not played for months are in, also Danny Ings did not even make the 33 man squad what on earth is the England manager thinking, he said all along he would pick players who were fit and on form, how he justifies this selection is beyond belief, no wonder England have not won anything since 1966 and we even needed home advantage and a Dodgy linesman to get that one done. The fact that Matt Letiss has so few caps says it all.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Jun 2021 23:33:16
I agree with you Norfolk Saint about Ings - it’s a travesty he didn’t get the nod and yes it does open up old wounds about Le Tis who would have walked into any other international side including Brazil, Argentina, Italy you name it.
But, and it’s a big but, I think you’re looking at JWP through Saints tinted glasses. I agree it’s a joke giving Henderson a place but JWP would not get in my squad either. He would only just get a place in my Saints side to be honest. Take his dead ball ability away and he’s ordinary. He contributes nothing in the last third - I cannot remember him taking a player on and beating him. Take David Beckham as an example of a dead ball specialist - he could do everything JWP does with a free kick and could change the game in open play. It maybe an unfair comparison but I would pick Mount and Grealish in front of JWP all day long.
Ings though is a different argument and as I would have him as cover for Kane at the very least - England need an impact sub and Southgate was mad to overlook him.

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Jun 2021 13:32:08
Ings is the more like for like Kane replacement. After he went off vs Austria, we went a bit long ball trying to hit Calvert-Lewis. Danny drops deep just like Kane and allows the other 2 forward players space (as in our goal) . Crazy decision.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jun 2021 17:48:06
Ings, on his day, is better than DCL, Bamford who have had excellent seasons. I am shocked he wasn’t in the 33. Given the size of the squads, I maybe would’ve kept JWP in just for that off chance where we get a free kick in the 84th minute of the Quarter-Finals from 24 yards out. He’s the best in the country in that situation and given there are four right backs, I think one could be dropped for him on that off chance he could save the day.

So Theo stays for two years. At least it's someone with passion, experience and a love for the club, and for £0 transfer fee.

Van Aanholt, although 30, is also available on a free transfer. Him, along with a junior full back to grow into the first team role, may be a good pairing for a couple of seasons.

I think the Ralph debate will rumble on but he needs to go and go now. What we do between now and the rest of the season doesn't matter much (assuming we have enough points in the bag) .
I would sooner see the youngsters get game time - how good is Lndulu for example - no one knows. And what about the lad who lasted 78 seconds on his debut at Old Trafford?

An old cliche, but if you're good enough you're old enough e. g. Danny Wallace aged 16 making his debut against Man U.
What winds me up most is Ralph insisting we were "brave" against Liverpool last night - really?! How so Ralph? Because we tried to score or because we made some tackles. That's not brave - that's their bloody job. So Ralph, great guy that you are - now is the time.

On another note I think Adams struggles without Ings alongside up top. Ings would have buried that poor clearance from Allinson. I've watched him a lot in recent weeks and his first touch isn't good enough hence he misses too many half chances. A couple of wonder goals have probably deflected the fact that he has a lot to work on. Won't fault his industry though.
I agree with the majority view - no more Walcott, Redmond, Forster, McCarthy, Bertrand and a new manager (IMO) to get the best out of JW-P, Djenepo and the youngsters.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 May 2021 14:41:40
I agree with some of what you say but I think Forster has come on a lot. Djnenpo? I don't see it with him. Gives the ball away far too much, moves break down and we are in trouble. When was the last time he even looked like he could score a goal. We seriously need another good striker. I know Walcott will be just a signing on fee but if he is worth signing then why does Ralph keep pulling him off. see Djenepo, and Redmond for that matter.
We have some good players but not nearly enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2021 13:29:11
I see everyone calling for Ralph to go but let's be honest about it, who else would want to come in knowing that they have to work with what he has. It wouldn't make any difference if we had Pep come in. He would still struggle to keep us in the Premier league. Nothing will change until someone with megabucks buys the club and the chances of that happening are about zero. I think that we need at least 6 quality players brought in to make us competitive so that would be an outlay of £100 million +. That's just not going to happen. Over half of the present squad are championship players at best so to be playing next season in the Premier league is a miracle but I fear for our chances next season.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 May 2021 09:06:37
You're off your trolley, if you really want to know how good our youngsters are look at the results, where we are in the youth leagues. Go see how well they are doing there and then decide if they can fit in.

The problem isn't Ralph at all. It's the squad he has at his disposal, we had a defensive crisis midway through the season and the team confidence took a massive hit. In my opinion we haven't recovered from. We play well most weeks but can't come away with the points unless ings is playing. It's got nothing to do with the manager. He should instruct his players to have a go at goal more a forward passing rather than coming home all the time admittedly but you are crazy if you think there is better out there on our budget. It's people like you who got Claude peul fired and he finished 8th and took us to a final.

Have a bit more loyalty in your club and people at it. We've seen lately about fan revolts she to ESL but without that squad and coaches we don't have a team to watch. Stop being so negative and get behind them. Due to finances we're a team that can only afford to avoid relegation each season but have been over achieving for years.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 May 2021 11:30:12
SFCPhill, you need to moderate your tone if you are to engage in constructive dialogue. Football is about people and opinion. There are many people who consider Ralph tactically naive and there is supportive evidence to show why. Likewise your point about how good the youngsters are is dubious if you are looking at youth leagues. The gulf between that level is massive and as said previously, we have had lots of success blooding youngsters into the big time. At the moment, we are giving them bit parts at a time when they should be getting more minutes on the pitch.
People who have a different view to you are not disloyal - they care passionately about the club and it’s future.
I do agree with your views about the financial reality of the situation and that simply employing a new manager will be the silver bullet - it won’t. What we do need is a manager and a team who can provide a little more fight and spirit in a no shots on target semi final.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 May 2021 01:11:49
It's nothing to do with whether or not someone is loyal to the club. I've been supporting Saints for almost 60 years through good times and bad but the fact remains that we are a very poor team and many quality players short of a half decent Premier league side. I want Saints to be competing against the best week in week out but with the present squad we will be losing heavily which affects confidence therefore making the following game even harder. Then what do we do? Bring a few U23s in and wreck their careers because they're getting badly beaten every game. Saints will only go downwards unless there is decent investment.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 May 2021 09:14:45
I agree with those saying investment is required. There is talent there but injury problems are amplified because the depth of senior replacements is thin. The younger players do need to be improved and given game time but it feels like a couple of key injuries will cause problems all the time.

I agree with you Manny but tell me - what would your first choice midfield 4 be if everyone was fit and available. Personally, I think it’s a very hard call but Winks offers more going forward than some of the options. As you say, would strengthen the squad but choosing a first XI would get that bit harder!

I just want to say something that I when say out loud sounds madness considering some of the results we've had and that is . For me I believe Ralph Hasshenutle is untouchable.

Don't get me wrong every manager can have their faults, but what I mean is, in the wake of certain results and recent run I think some around the world would consider that stackable. However for me the idea has never once entered my mind. When Ralph has the players he needs to field the way he wants to play you can see that it works. Depth is an issue, along with circumstances and VAR.

If we found ourselves in similar results situation with puel, pelliguno or hughes I wouldn't be saying this. With Ralph though it's different.

It’s time to take stock. Various reporters bumming us up when we are playing like a bottom three. team. International PLAYER status ( 8 ) count for nothing when week after week we are outplayed and outwitted by well structured teams without many recogniseable players. Whilst we have endured many injuries and poor ref. decisions it’s time to weed out overpaid pretenders for next season. Maybe Ralph could do with the shared support of a sharp no.2 to discuss substitutions player selection tactics etc. Future plans need to be activated right now in order to progress next season.

Overpaid pretenders : one standout pretender is Redmond, to be playing him upfront is bizarre.

I really don't get it. AMN is right footed and not what we need.

Especially after lasts nights potential injuries to Diallo and Walcott.

It's nice to see we have youth coming through, but I feel this is to much at once.

Call me absolutely bonkers but we have both of those positions covered with guys on loan. Lemina and Elouynossi.

Elouynossi is doing well, albeit in Scottish league, but we've had some great players from that league.

Lemina, personally I rate him and could at least do a job until the end of the season.

If they're saying we have no money for players, then surely this is an option, or a case of Ralph being very stubborn.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Jan 2021 21:51:26
I think we are as safe as can be with Ralph and JWP being loyal to our club but Vesty has not been treated that well in his Saints career so may be drawn by the money and the lights. Having read the finances today may be if we can get good money for him we should.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jan 2021 09:57:33
I think if we can keep Vestergaard to the end of the season we should. Hopefully, if he can have a better second half of the campaign and increase his stock. Selling him for 40m+ would give us enough transfer budget for the summer. Where we could look to sign, a new CB, new fullback and new attacking mid.

I think the rumour of Ralph leaving is just lazy journalism and so are the other rumours? Don't see why JWP would go to Everton, they're a bigger club than Saints but I don't think he can achieve anything else there that he wouldn't be able to achieve with us. Also, he's probably our most expensive player. I can't imagine we'd let him go for less than 60m.

Agree2 Disagree0

15 Jan 2021 09:38:03
vestergard was given a hard time when tbf he was not playing well. i would of grabbed 23m rumoured from leicester. the player he is today he is worth 40m min and he should also remember the manager backed him and has given him another chance which he has grabbed with both hands. i would rather sell 4-5 fringe players and keep him and sit him down with a new contract.

With Obafemi off to Swansea on loan (apparently) and him not really looking like he's in Ralph plans I would love to see us make a move for Balogun, any chance of this happening Ed's? I know there's apparently 15 clubs interested in him.

{Ed002's Note - No, I don't see it.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Jan 2021 22:57:11
Why would we? Yes we could have him as another option, but Ralph is building his squad around a core of players, with excellent ‘stand ins’ especially making full use of the academy. He has created a tactical plan that is being taught to every level at Southampton.
I think we will see a reduction in buys and an increase in bringing players through.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jan 2021 08:03:01
Because Obafemi clearly isn’t in Ralph’s plans and we all know that Shane Long cannot score a goal. Dan N’Lundulu is currently our only back up goal scorer, why not got and get another young goal scorer who’s a free agent at the end of the season so would be available for a cut price fee?

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jan 2021 12:42:00
Obafemi isn't in Ralph's plans because he's lazy and can't or won't play the way that Ralph is asking him to. I for one am more than happy to leave the decisions to Ralph. He seems to be making a bloody good job of it.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jan 2021 21:53:17
Our selection is not just about a young player who can score and is a free agent. A huge emphasis is put on character, lifestyle etc when Southampton are interested in someone, they watch, watch, listen, enquire, watch and watch . often in ‘secret’. You can be absolutely sure Ralph knows exactly who he wants . at the moment he is seeing who he can ‘tune’ . Vestergaard and Prowsey spring to mind.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jan 2021 09:40:47
for leicester to let gray run down his contract is clearly an issue. i am not convinced rogers is a great manager he has a plan a but does he have any other. sit deep and hit on the break. gray and ihenacho have not developed at all in their time at the club. would imagine gray would be a good acquisition especially if cheap or free but would depend on buying into the plan and being prepared to wait.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jan 2021 10:22:51
I think Ralph ran out of patience with him. When Ralph first joined, he was heavily invested in Obafemi, you could tell that he wanted him to succeed and must've spent a lot of time on him. And from the sounds of it, Obafemi hasn't returned the favour. So now Ralph will focus his attention on N’Lundulu and Tella.

There's no doubt that Obafemi has bags of talent and is a good finisher and is a good poacher but if he's not willing to be a team player, we're best off letting him have a decent career.
