Papers saying that we're putting together a £5m bid for Kieran Trippier of Spurs. I seem to remember were linked to him when he was at Burnley. Would certainly strengthen our depth of cover at RB.

Good signing if it does happen. I've had about 2 posts about trippier here. One is just a recommendation opinion on the banter site, the other one a non-concrete rumour which hasn't surfaced at the time I posted. He's a better defender than soares and would also offer more going forward than martina. He's unlucky to be behind walker atm and when he does play he looks solid. I thought that if yedlin won't be leaving spurs then we have a realistic chance of getting trippier. Does it seem to be the case here? He'd definitely give cedric a run for his money. Make it happen les.

2.) 25 Jul 2016 09:16:11
Tripper would be a great signing. and if not him yedlin actually did pretty well at Sunderland last year. either would be good backup/ competition for cedric.

3.) 25 Jul 2016 13:03:46
Hey Eds the chamber and chamberlain rumours gone quiet was there really any substance?

{Ed001's Note - I am not aware of any substance to them. The club were busy sorting out the manager at the time they were flying around, they were not really thinking of signing players at that moment.}

4.) 25 Jul 2016 14:21:11
Valerie Germain - at Monaco at present. Was at Nice on loan when Claude was there. Plays in striker position but can go out on either wing. Our manager rated him highly then and rumours being posted on quite a few sites that interest in securing is high. Kieran Trippier turned us down in favour of Spuds. Now behind Walker. Would be a snip at £5 mill. Good competition for Cedric who I rate after a wobbly start but since getting more game time has got better and better. Tripper still at a good age-25.Still say we need an experienced GK although Gazzaniga is future prospect. Patience is needed as we all know how Southampton F. C. work in the transfer department.

5.) 26 Jul 2016 00:09:43
sorry welshgirl gazza has time and time again to prove himself and I don't think he cuts the mustard. He's been at the club too long and he looks a bag of nerves every time in goal and makes blunders that every goalkeeper should of saved. He's a league 1 keeper at best.

6.) 26 Jul 2016 06:14:27
Someone at saints has confidence in him. Even top goalkeepers make errors Hart at the Euros is a good example. But agree that this should be the last season to prove himself. we definitely need an experienced goalkeeper as back up this season sooner rather than later. Plenty ot time to get players if wanted by our new manager then a month to secure loans if required. Have faith out there - we will march on.

7.) 26 Jul 2016 08:50:54
I do agree that Kieran Trippier would be a quality signing but I'm just trying to think logically here, why would he come to be backup at southampton, surely he would only be coming if there was some sort of guarantee of first team football?

Also I thought we were offering cedric a new contract so would we not see him as first choice? Any thoughts guys?

8.) 26 Jul 2016 10:14:45
I think if we do manage to sign trippier then both would be used to equal measure this season. Cedric offers a lot going forward, I think even more than trippier, definitely more than martina. But he has been found out defensively more times than we would've liked. Trippier brings more defensive solidity and physical presence and he has more pl experience. We could see cedric being played when we are the better team, and trippier when the opponent has a potent attacking threat.
Or they could both get plenty of game time given that we're playing in europe this season. Either way their roles wouldn't be as black and white as a "First team and cover" role.

9.) 26 Jul 2016 11:17:47
Well said vick. He wouldn't be "cover" he would be there to challenge, meaning both players need to be on top of their game week in week out to be selected. Competition in the squad breeds better performances and consistency and if one was to get injured then there is a equally good replacement.

10.) 26 Jul 2016 15:46:41
Trippier not coming.

11.) 27 Jul 2016 08:24:04
I just don't see Trippier happening guys sorry, unless we give him more of a guarantee of first team football.

Rumour starting to circulate that Ronald is to be placed on gardening leave until the end of his contract with the cost of his salary being recovered by legal proceedings taken against Everton and his Agent for an illegal approach. Oh how I wish this turned out to be true! There is no reliable source for this so probably just speculation.

1.) 06 Jun 2016 23:24:17
It's safe to say someone with imaginative thinking, is dreaming up all sorts. He's pretty much gone, it's football it happens, onto the next one.

2.) 07 Jun 2016 05:46:55
Can't see this to be true but I wish it was. Haven't ever heard of this happening before anywhere.

3.) 07 Jun 2016 08:14:41
^ happened to Ally McCoist at Rangers and Chris Hargreaves at Torquay.

4.) 07 Jun 2016 09:16:28
Didn't know that SSS. Either sign a new contract with us then RK or get pruning those roses for a year.

5.) 07 Jun 2016 10:41:49
EDD's? Do you think we can make an educated guess that Koeman has flown off on holiday because we (Southampton FC) have agreed a settlement with Everton for Koeman but that we are holding up the final confirmation until we have found our new manager?

I just can't see Koeman flying off on holiday without everything being done, southampton have agreed but stipulated that nothing can be announced until we have a replacement in place? It's only what I'm thinking, not what I've heard.

{Ed002's Note - No, he had a holiday planned and is taking it. Nothing more, nothing less.}

6.) 07 Jun 2016 11:39:15
Fair enough, again I know it's paper talk but the mirror are saying that apparently the hold up has been from our end, stipulating a no poaching clause in the contract, as Koeman is keen to potentially take some players with him.

7.) 07 Jun 2016 12:59:06
do you see such a clause possible EDD?

{Ed002's Note - It would be very difficult to include as part of any contract and to then make it legally binding. It is very common for clubs to have a "gentleman's agreement" over such matters.}

8.) 07 Jun 2016 13:00:41
Wait, there's a clause like that? Is there any concrete evidence that a "no poach" clause has been inserted before? Preferably in football. Eds?

{Ed002's Note - See above please.}

9.) 07 Jun 2016 13:30:37
Is anyone else getting bored with waiting for the announcement? First SSN say 1 pm today then someone else say it's Wednesday. Does anyone know? Is it that our board are not letting him go without ripping Everton off good and proper? Seems we are delaying. Is there an ulterior motive as we still hold all the cards? Just putting it out there.

10.) 07 Jun 2016 13:18:50
Thanks EDD, I did think I can't see how such a clause could be legal, gentleman's agreement sounds more realistic but certainly don't expect Everton or Ronald come to that matter adhering to it : (

11.) 07 Jun 2016 16:19:37
Finally offical then, been reported on the BBC website.

Rumour now that Barcelona and Real Madrid sniffing round VVD. If true and they can offer a decent amount I say sell him immediately.

markyruk

1.) 25 Jul 2017 13:09:12
Rather him go to them than Liverhampton!

2.) 25 Jul 2017 13:24:31
If he goes to either of them for good money so be it those clubs generally only come round once in a career. If he is going we need cover though Gibson and or winner would be ok.

25 Jul 2017 08:53:39
Can someone explain to me what the situation would be if Chelsea but in a bid for VVD that was accepted by Saints but he turned round and said he didn't want to go. Can the Club force a move on a player?

markyruk

{Ed002's Note - No they can't.}

1.) 25 Jul 2017 10:21:06
They can't force a move but if they don't want to to a club then I'm sure they are well with in their rights to say no to any sort of bid or negotiations, but as we know money talks and the players have most of the power these days.

2.) 25 Jul 2017 11:35:34
VVD is not going to Liverpool.

3.) 25 Jul 2017 12:55:59
Love your optimism Ben, reliable source or gut feeling.

4.) 25 Jul 2017 13:38:17
I with you Ben. Can't see him going to Liverpool now. Not after they publicly came out and said they had ended interest in him. I think they are too worried about further ramifications from tapping up.

01 Jul 2017 21:48:55
The Ed on the Liverpool pages seems to be getting hacked off with the fans who seem to think that Virgil will join them. Worth a read as they're totally deluded. The more sensible ones are getting fed up with the way they go about their transfer activity.

markyruk

1.) 03 Jul 2017 00:13:41
Yeah they are deluded but some of them are saying, "well Vvd ain't that good anyway not good enough to play for the god given reds", lol.

2.) 03 Jul 2017 09:31:26
Liverpool fans have got used to getting what they want from us, so as soon as the club say know they started getting all entitled. I think VVD will stay this year and who knows maybe longer given the takeover isn't far away and maybe then we will pay higher wages to kee our best. But some Liverpool fans aren't so deluded. Some are just as fed up with buying form southampton as we are of them buying from us.

3.) 04 Jul 2017 21:19:55
Liverpool fans saying VVD is not good enough to play for them, but Lovren was? Lol.

Paper reporting that Paul Mitchell has resigned from Spurs. I wonder where the black box is going now!

I always feel that Tadic could play the creative midfield role. personally I don't see him as an out and out winger and like it when he come from the wing and plays little through balls to the strikers.

How easy would it be to get a work permit for him. I worry about bringing in African players as the best ones disappear off to the African Cup of Nations mid season.

Forget contracts, they're not worth the paper they're written on when it comes to holding players. They demonstrate the club's value of a player and help when it comes to negotiating a transfer fee. To all posters put yourself in this position, in your job, whatever it is, you're paid £x. Then a competitor company comes along and says "we've noticed how good you are at your job, would like you to join us, do exactly the same work but we'll pay you 3x your current salary and by the way we're a global firm whereas you're current company are big in the U. K. but aren't big on the world stage". Now how many of you, realistically, would turn round and say "thanks for the offer but I'll stay where I am because I'm loyal to the company". I would be of like a shot if I received that sort of offer and I'd be willing to bet that most other people would as well. Why should footballers be any different?

I completely agree. He almost gave away another penalty at the weekend when a player was running around the outside of him. Either his head's been turned or his legs are starting to go. Certainly doesn't look like the player he was over the last few seasons.

They could say something along the lines of "we know that fans want to know what's happening. Rest assured negotiations are ongoing and we will have news shortly" At the present time the Club say nothing and all we get is information from the Daily Echo. It seems like the Club have stopped talking to the supporters when a few well chosen words are all that is needed.
