Given that LR has said the new manager will NOT be short term, and the fact that they wish to appoint as soon as possible, it it likely the candidate is out of work and probably contacted on the weekend.
If this assumption is correct, I think it is likely to be Hughes, silva or Bilic. However I would really be opposed to Hughes, our guys need motivating and inspiring, something I don't think we will get that from him. Would be happy with the other two, although I do not see the sense in ruling out a temp manager to then reflect in the summer. How can we tempt a decent manager with our league position is so precarious.
1.) 13 Mar 2018 10:16:08
There's always an option of putting Martin Hunter and Jaidi on a caretaker basis but that is far from what we need right now.
15 Jun 2017 12:01:03
So. With Tuchel ruling himself out of Southampton, I think the bookies have made FDB as favourite by default.
I was told a few days ago that Saints enquired about Julian Nagelsmann, however were put off by the large compensation payment, even before trying to persuade him to give up champions league football.
Any one heard anything else?
1.) 15 Jun 2017 12:15:18
All I heard is that Les would have kept Puel. on for nextbseason if he had agreed to change the playing style. He wouldn't so Les wrote him a £6m severance cheque and said au revoir.
2.) 15 Jun 2017 12:44:09
I wasn't keen on the style in the second half of the season but some of that was due to lack of cover for vvd forcing a more defensive MF to protect a vulnerable defence.
I would have liked to see Puel given another season with the chance to build his own team before judging him fully.
I feel sorry for him after giving us a fantastic day at Wembley and I fear what the consequences will be with all the uncertainty now surrounding the club.
3.) 15 Jun 2017 12:55:18
Don't be silly. Have you seen the list of candidates?! Roy Hodgson is 3rd favourite. Idiot fans driving the guy out before he really got a chance.
4.) 15 Jun 2017 13:56:04
WanderingSaint you're the one being an idiot. just because the bookies have him as 3rd favourite doesn't mean he's genuinely being considered by the board. Odds are influenced by many things, one of which is the bets people place. Hodgson is a recognisable name which will induce some people to bet on him despite the fact he clearly doesn't fit with the club in the slightest. He's been in the top 5 favourites for just about every job in the last year, as has Ryan Giggs. Doesn't mean a thing.
5.) 15 Jun 2017 14:22:35
Er, you seem inconsistent to say the least.
On one hand you say ". would still be our manager if it wasn't for a section of our fans who have the patience of a spastic in an ice cream parlour. " On the other you say the above?
Bookies set prices for a number of reasons, but all roads lead to likelihood. To say the list of potentials is uninspiring is the understatement of the millennium.
Puel wasn't a "big name" and a large section of fans wanted him out before we'd even kicked a ball. The guy is highly respected throughout Europe. If I was a manager on the up, I wouldn't go anywhere near us, having just watched the treatment of Puel. These fans wanted us to play 4 attacking midfielders whilst having 3rd and 4th choice CBs in the side! I remember the days of 4-3 or 4-5 under Chris Nicholl. It was exciting, there were loads of goals, but we always had to perform miracles in the last 5 - 10 games of the season.
I maintain that this is an idiotic decision, brought about by deluded and unrealistic fans, and one we'll all regret. I sincerely hope and would be delighted to be proven wrong, but I just can't see it.
6.) 15 Jun 2017 14:53:54
Maybe the shortlist is made up of former England managers. Allardyce, Hodgson, Erickson, Hoddle etc.
7.) 15 Jun 2017 15:06:31
To be clear, then, my opinion is that it was very harsh and based on stupid and impatient reactions by the fans who have behaved poorly, and very hypocritically considering we normally take pride in our club being run differently to the other PL clubs who chop and change their managers every year (e. g. Watford) .
I do, however, share all the frustrations that the football last year was terrible to watch and not in keeping with our supposed philosophy, and so there's a little part of me that's not sad to see the back of him, even though I would never boo him like some did and force the club's hand.
My point above was just that the bookie's odds are in no way related to the actual targets the board have in mind. Odds are influenced mostly by the bookie's desire to limit their exposure in the event of particular outcomes, and so by the bets people place. Household names like Hodgson, Giggs etc. therefore inevitably rise to the top every time, without any indication they're actually particularly likely to get the job. Therefore to use bookie odds to either criticise or defend the decision to sack Puel is idiotic, particularly when it comes to the names which are linked with every single job.
Don't see how that's inconsistent.
8.) 15 Jun 2017 16:13:18
Every single available and realistic target is on that list, together with some who are neither. Given that, i'd say it's perfectly reasonable to assess the decision to sack Puel on the basis of those available and realistic replacements. I would rather we'd kept Puel than replace with him with any one of them. The only caveat to that is if he was doing actual harm, which I don' believe.
As far as our deluded fans are concerned, come on, you've read the comments everywhere, such as "let's just get Tuchel in quickly. " Yeah, 'cos someone who's just taken a team to the QF of the champions league and won the German cup is just waiting with baited breath for us to ask. Deluded just doesn't cover it.
9.) 15 Jun 2017 18:58:07
Do you seriously believe the club sacked puel because a few fans booed, wenger would have been out of a job years ago, they knew he wasn't going to change his philosophy and didn't want a transfer window then get rid, also well known within the club at least 3-4 players wanting to leave if he stayed, nice guys don't always come first.
10.) 15 Jun 2017 20:26:20
Yes, like I said twice now though your only basis for saying they're available and realistic is the presence of their name on a betting website. Like I said, Hodgson is not realistic, so to criticise the board because some bookie decided to lower the odds on Hodgson is ridiculous.
Judge the club on its actions, not on unrelated actions by the bookies.
Also I find it very hard to believe that every single available and realistic target is on the list. Indeed, this would seem to contradict the defining characteristic of a 'SHORTlist'. What with all the unavailable and unrealistic targets thrown in there, for no clear reason other than to avoid WanderingSaint having to admit he's wrong, I doubt we'll get around to actually hiring someone until sometime in 2020.
11.) 15 Jun 2017 23:27:19
If anyone else who was realistic and available was indeed realistic and available they'd be on the odds list. There may be others who we'll approach but the experts who spend their days analysing the market don't think so, because they're, well, unavailable and unrealistic.
I have clearly criticised the board for their action of sacking Puel at all. The fact there's nobody out there to replace him is a side issue.
Yes, i'm sure all of the bookies visited this site and added them so as to ensure I don't have to admit i'm wrong.
I sincerely hope we get someone good, but doubt it. If we appoint someone from leftfield, the same fans mentioned above will want him out before we've kicked a ball.
Whoever it is had better damn well a) finish in the top 6, and b) play free-flowing attacking football regardless of the squad, and c) win they games they win by 2 or goals, d) get a SF of a cup at least. If they don't the fans will drive them out.

Not massive news but I have heard that Blackpool have made an enquiry about the availability of gazza due to their goal keeping crisis. Although saints are yet to respond it could be a decent level to assess him further.
1.) Needs to be loaned out. would rather see cropper in goal than gazza again.
2.) Take him, he's awful.
3.) Gazzinga not up to job as was seen last season, I personally panicked when the other team got the ball within 30 yards of him! Not his fault is still young but not premier class. Look at other teams in prem who have experience keepers as their cover in the likes of Chelsea and spuds I would like us to add more depth to squad in the way of experianced pros
4.) Agree with all - not good enough but by going on loan he will gain exp and with a run in the team we can assess if he will be good enough for the future. heard today that saints rejected this but can't understand why.
5.) I agree he needs more time but please bear in mind, last season he was in goal when most of our back 5 was also injured so a lot of goals were not his fault entirely.
6.) I used to panic too but I recon if he was loaned out he would come good as bialkski has now we should have just kept loaning him too

Whilst I take no pleasure in saying my knowledge of who would be sold has been right It has as I expected turned out that way. Once lallana goes lovern will follow. However the latest I have heard is that koeman is desperate to speak in person with spider as soon as he is back from the World Cup to disagree with advice he has been given that he needs to leave saints to be a France regular. Koeman instead wishes to share his vision and appoint him club captain.
In other news and again as previously advised saints will look to the youth team with taggart to be initially used in the league cup so that come January he is fighting for a place.
Koeman also plans to spend - with some attacking threat and centre backs seen as a priority. I do not have names yet but it does look like he is looking for a higher class than pelle and Ings. The club as a whole however have wanted Ings for some time.
Koeman fully expects to finish top half before a push the following season to break our highest prem finish.
1.) When Keoman signed it was initially reported a gk was the priority.
2.) Would hope the Axel Witsel rumours are true. Rafa Silva looks promising. As does Tadic. Let's wait and see, will be interesting. I truly believe we'll come out of the summer a stronger team.
3.) That would be awsome if true about spider he would make a great captain hope he believes in Ronalds vision. Looking forward to the new signings sure Ron won't mess about starting work tomorrow Pelle should be in the bag.
4.) I don't necessarily mind losing Lovren but I would hope for a fair bit more than the quoted £15million for a player who was frankly outstanding for us last season in the Premiership. He's well worth holding onto unless a seriously big offer were to come our way.
5.) TD667 - I agree. Although there are no facts in the press I know that lallana has been trying to force his move and has been gathering or trying to gather support. We don't need that. Bring on the hungry youth and hungry signings.
6.) Thanks Gregg & I think keeping spider I the key to "steadying the ship" so to speak & keeping one of the more respected players from the want away group is important. Giving him the captain armband would be awesome & send a clear signal to the team that we look after those that actually want to be here. Judging by spiders comments in the press I believe he can be persuaded to stay & be convinced he is part of the new phase.
7.) 29 Jun 2014 20:31:50
MS will 100% go to Arsenal
8.) I do have reservations about the initial post and his so called information, seeing as he has "taggart" playing but I guess he means matt targett.
9.) Kevalle only posts to say everyone's leaving, do you really enjoy it that much?
10.) Is the pelle deal going to happen tommorow for definite?
11.) There`s bin a muuurrrdeeerrr
12.) Sorry Jonah, I wish my post was as good as yours. I've proved time and again to have knowledge from within, feel free to skip my posts. Simply an auto correct.
13.) If Sissoko can be a regular whilst playing for Newcastle then why can't Spider playing for us?
14.) Proved to have knowledge from within? You said Pochettino was staying. You also said we would sell shaw and Lallana then only spend 20 mill all summer, let's see if that comes true, I'm sure we'll spend more than 20 mill.
You never said Lovren was leaving, but your saying it now.
Everyone knows that lots of clubs are interested in our players, and players will always be interested in moving to bigger clubs, you hardly need to be Nostradamus to predict that some of our players will leave. Yet every time there's a negative rumour about Saints you come on here and say I told you so.
So now Schneiderlin will stay as captain, and we're not interested in Pelle? Let's see if your right there. I don't believe you have any inside info, you just read stuff online and then speculate.
15.) 20 million was the plan at the time and things change. No wonder people don't comment with what they know with trolls coming on here. I think you will find the only reason saints will now spend more is because koeman would not join without significant reinvestment. Lovern stated he wanted to say, my crystal ball failed to tell me he would change his mind.
16.) Oh and it does not say spider will be captain anywhere on line. Also please quote me correctly I never actually said poch was staying.
17.) If that makes me a troll, pointing out that a) the things you say are going to happen don't happen
and b) you then have the nerve to say I told you so,
then I must be one I guess.
Re Pochettino you said something along the lines of "from what I'm hearing from my sources Pochettino is staying" -he left 2 days later. What happened did you mis-hear?
You should get some new sources mate!
18.) "From what I have heard" he is staying as at first he was reluctant to join spurs. Your sources are better "shaw might happen" - did happen "lallana won't happen" did happen. Plenty of what I have said has happened as opposed to people like you that come on these sites and criticise what people have been told. For this reason so many people don't post including the eds because the truth hurts and the abuse (such as calling people thick). You carry on with your quality posts though. Read through your own you don't exactly make a constructive contribution "mate" in fact you remind me of one of those annoying people that are great behind the security of their computer but probably quiet with no opinion in person.
19.) Whatever I don't claim to have any sources, the stuff you write on here makes about as much sense as a David Lynch movie.
You remind me of one of those people who are so desperate for attention that you repeatedly talk about having inside info and being an authority on things, when it just isn't the case. Why would someone keep lying like that if they haven't got major issues?
It might help if some of your educated guesses were a bit more educated, but they are always wrong. Only said you were thick because that rumour about spending 20 mill was so wrong.
20.) Always wrong, have you read any of my posts or even the above I have already proved at least some of them are right. Whatever indeed little man - I think everyone is clear that the only way you can post on here is if you can 100% say it is definitely going to happen. Always being wrong means exactly that like you said lallana won't happen - now that is knowing nothing.
21.) The big difference is that anything I said about Lallana was clearly just a passing comment, a guess, my opinion.
{Ed001's Note - ok enough now both of you. This is just becoming pointless and going back over old ground so move on please.}
22.) Yeah I agree, sorry ed. I wasn't prepared to be called a liar just because not everything I have been told actually happens. Will respect your wishes
{Ed001's Note - thank you.}

Some Southampton rumours I have heard from inside the club.
David Moyes has had an interview (fact) and rumours that Koeman has also away from ST Mary's. I guess DM would be the safer bet but personally I am disappointed no news re yakin. Initial contact made to Lennon and Garcia has been made.
Transfers - looks like lovren, lambert, shaw and lallana will def go with and Morgan / wanyama less likely unless valuations are met.
Less news on incoming as saints look to the youth team. However I can confirm that Ings will be a saints player but may have to hand in a transfer request.
1.) Moyes makes little sense as his defensive, long ball football is completely at odds with the supposed Saints "philosophy" being preached through the age groups.
Then again, not much else has made a whole load of sense in the way Saints have conducted themselves in this off season, so why should the managerial appoint?
2.) 31 May 2014 13:54:40
Yakin looks as if he has gone to Spartak Moscow rumor has it he has been offered a 3 year deal
3.) Would the last player out of the club please turn off the lights. We don, t have to sell, Blah Blah, We intend to keep our best players and move on to better things Blah Blah. Nothing but hot air from people who do not know anything about football and have ended up running a Prermier League club.
4.) If that's true about Moyes coming in then I guarantee your first signing will be Fellaini. Hoof!
5.) 31 May 2014 19:16:51
Don't bite! Anyone who wants you to sqirm can come up with an unconfirmed room 101 scenario.
6.) Who is trying to make who bite? The moyes interview is a fact not a rumour. I could be wrong. but is this not a rumour site? Of course I would prefer this not to be the case but it is the players are v unhappy, another fact and despite what is written in the press mart Le tiss is not any where near as optimistic as he says.
7.) I too have been told moyes was at st Mary's

The person behind a regular score prediction article vs a weekly guest usually talks a load of nonsense, but this week he may have a point. Not sure if I can say the name but you know the one I mean.
He firstly points out that our down turn in form could be the departure of our assistant manager in the summer, which is plausible. Although before my time, I gather there has been many successful managers that have lost their way when losing a trusted and complimentary no 2.
He then goes on to say Sheffield Utd and Burnley will be a great team as they never lack effort or intensity. We should be talked about in this vein, then and only then can I accept a loss.
I was also a little frustrated at being reminded at how Gazzaniga is deputising well at Spurs. Whilst I agree we had to loan out FF I really don't rate AM and certainly have seen little from Gunn, other than mistakes. Yes he is young, but simply not good enough.
I don't think sacking Ralph is the answer. Relegation has been knocking on the door and we do not address the issues already spoken of for four windows. That's not really down to him but the club as a whole - the strange tactics are of course but I can't see who would be better. Someone asked me if I would be happy with big Sam, I wouldn't.
1.) 01 Nov 2019 11:15:16
I think that both Fraser and Gunn have had the same problem. playing behind awful defences. Fraser is getting plaudits in Scotland especially in the last Euro game. We must fix the defence before anything else.
08 May 2018 14:05:42
Anyone daring enough for a prediction tonight? Most pundits are sitting on the fence with 1-1, whilst this is very much a possibility, however a draw would suit Swansea much more than us, given we have man city on last game.
The phrase 'must win' is used to readily, but on this occasion I think it is very apt.
I don't agree it is us or Swansea, I know Huddersfield got a point that some of us didn't expect but if we beat swans and they then beat Stoke, we could both stay up.
I am going for 0-1.
1.) 08 May 2018 15:44:37
Honest prediction: 1-1.
Still, there's absolutely no reason we can't beat them, and I really hope we go there and give it a proper go. COYS!
2.) 08 May 2018 21:43:32
Good prediction gregg01f! Shows that cheats never prosper! (i. e. the whole hotel saga. ) I feel kinda sorry for WBA as they have really put up a great fight in these last few games. Well, depending on how the next few games go it looks like we could be staying up! COYR!
3.) 08 May 2018 21:44:00
Wow, buzzing.
4.) 08 May 2018 22:09:39
Fabulous and huge result. Charlie says job done
Job effectively done. Sparky should get the job. The players love him!
5.) 08 May 2018 22:11:36
"les reed he went to italy. "
get in there gabbi!
6.) 08 May 2018 22:18:17
that was torture.
7.) 09 May 2018 07:48:28
But we love it really. It’s why we follow the team. Highs and lows and for better and for worse.
Did you see Sparkys reaction after the game. Pure unadulterated passion and relief. Give him the job . Manila is pure class when it comes to the big occasion,
The players were singing his name after the game.
Let’s finish off on style on Sunday.
8.) 09 May 2018 09:55:09
they should defend their heads off on sunday and stck long up front just to run around and be a complete menace to their defence. bring gabbi on about 65 mins in!
15 Apr 2018 18:32:06
I agree that things look bleak, but I still can't agree relegation is a foregone conclusion. In fact 3 points mid week and we are right back in it.
The worst result for us was probably either palace or huddersfield winning as opposed to us losing. With their run in, they must be targets for us to reach. I just wonder if we have enough. I have a feeling that my earlier prediction if 36 points will be enough, 2 wins and 2 draws.
It's a big ask but not one that I personally have given up on. If we don't beat LFC midweek though bleak becomes very bleak.
1.) 15 Apr 2018 20:33:47
*LCFC :)
2.) 15 Apr 2018 21:43:29
I think that looking at our run in and the way we were playing, none of us really expected to get anything out of the Arsenal, Chelsea and City games so we haven’t actually faired in the last two games any worse than expected. The West Ham game was gutting as we just didn’t turn up, but we all feel so low after the last two games as the performances of the team gave us hope. Hope of getting a draw, or a win, when three weeks ago, the chances of such a result against a top six side was laughable.
We now have a run of 4 games where we must pick up as many points as we can, by carrying forward the second half performance against Arsenal and an hour from Chelsea and aim to play our best for 90 minutes. I don’t think Huddersfield will get much more from the season now so we have our minimum target – 35 points – but to ensure safety the team must still be targeting 40 points.
The results of the teams around us have not helped this weekend but our performances give genuine hope that wins can be achieved against teams with nothing left to play for in Leicester, Everton, Bournemouth and perhaps even Man City. Swansea is now looking a really important game too, but first, we must get something from Leicester.
3.) 15 Apr 2018 23:45:57
I agree we can still stay up but I'm ready to support the saints in the championship. Hope we come back in a year if we do go down.
26 Feb 2018 11:31:55
Football is a funny game - on one hand we have improved results with just one defeat in 6, however we have also only won once in 15 games.
I think the Stoke game is potentially the biggest since our return to the premiership.
The goal from Gabbi could be massive, with the weekend results and such fine margins, teams that looked doomed 2 games ago are looking much healthier, whereas teams like palace and Swansea are right back in it.
Even with our points to game ratio, if we can beat Stoke, we should be fine.
1.) 28 Feb 2018 12:32:52
This is the part of the season where you can't really predict anything in Premier League. Anyone can beat anyone. However, we just look like we can't win/ beat anyone. It is worrying. I'd like to say we could beat Stoke at the weekend and then go on and beat/ draw against West Ham and Newcastle away but it doesn't look possible. We need to play an attacking formation from the off. 2 up top. Gabbi and Carrillo up top with Sims/ Redmond on the win. These 2 just whipping in balls, all it will take is for Carrillo to get his head on something and for Gabbi to get on the end of this. He's probably our best player at getting on the end of loose chances, he needs to play.
2.) 28 Feb 2018 20:07:09
Agree with most of that, except I think 5 points from these games is very possible, especially if we play more attacking!
21 Jan 2018 11:15:06
So, just seen Silva has been sacked, with another club taking action over poor form. Initially I wondered if he could end up at saints, assuming MP leaves, but the way results have gone down hill since Everton interest, would leave concerns.
Any thoughts on silva, should MP leave?
1.) 21 Jan 2018 11:32:16
If we make another managerial change it has to be a proven manager and not a up and coming
I'd also use vvd money for that and try to attract the best out there
The only stumbling block would be Reed and whether the new manager could work with him.
22 Jul 2019 11:54:23
Sorry Saintjay, I know this is probably personal opinion but there is no way we will get a transfer fee for Forster. It is pretty much common knowledge that saints would happily let him go for free to get him off the wage bill, but there are no takers due to high wage. Think we are stuck with him until contract expires.
I think some of the others would be very optimistic too, such as 8-10M for Hoedt.
07 Jun 2019 11:12:24
Thanks SaintBen1. However I have seen this guy linked with Derby, palace, wesh ham, clubs in France and Belgium. Not saying the Sun would print something that isn't true of course.
08 Feb 2019 11:45:31
Nicely put SaintGGsy.
31 Dec 2018 16:08:36
I would love some buyers tocome in for the players not performing or not needed and for RH to be given a war chest, but sadly it isn’t going to happen. RH will no doubt do some business both ways in the summer but as for jan I think we will see a few departures, maybe one will come in but that’s It in my view.
RK has already said that he doesn’t expect any incomings in Jan, but I accept we have changed the manager since. Saints were attracted to RH’s view that he can work with what he has, with the philosophy of making less mistakes than the opponent.
Collectively as fans we say that the Board do not keep us updated, but actually RK has informed the fans not to expect many dealings in jan. I could be wrong and I hope I am, but please don’t expect big business.
04 Dec 2018 10:42:07
totally agree with Vick. 3 league wins in 8 months is dire and he simply had to go. credit where its due to the board for acting now!
I actually think the board are showing ambition and thinking outside the box.
29 Jan 2020 19:10:56
. because he is not good enough.
06 Nov 2019 16:15:05
Good post, gone too quiet on here and in the stadium. The thing is, losing marginally is seen as brave away to city, fair enough. but as you say if we get turned over by sides we should be competitive against it’s pointless, literally.
26 Jul 2019 18:37:30
I share the frustration, the issue with pay as you play is players want security if injured or lose form, other clubs are already ahead of us on wages, so by having pay as you play we would be less appealing. I do feel for the club, 99% of us really wanted to sign a striker when Carrillo joined, but when it doesn’t work out we are not happy as we can’t make further signings with him on the books. That’s the issue with a panic buy, which I suspect he was and on advice from MP2.
For every mane, vvd etc there will be at least a couple Carrillo’s unfortunately. I do agree with you however, our scouting has declined in recent years. I am excited about this summers signings though!
26 Jul 2019 18:30:02
I actually think Saintben1 is right
He is crazy
:)
17 Dec 2018 19:02:40
Cheers Ed, I agree and think we will stay up too. Yes keeping hold of him may be an issue but if he goes to a big club, hopefully other promising managers may see themselves taking a similar route and using us as their stepping stone. We can’t complain when they go if we’ve had 2 or 3 years good service, as they must have been a success to have a bigger club seeking them and fans are quick to moan if it is a mediocre appointment like the last one.
I would still question why Hughes was given a long term contract in the back of the results at the end of last season, but I care much less now RH is in charge.
{Ed0333's Note - yes mate Hughes was a tool and have no idea why he was given anything more than a 1 year rolling contract. If he gets a premier league job again I’ll be horrified. RH is gonna be a breath of fresh air enjoy the magical mystery tour mate because I’m not sure he’ll be around for the long term.
