There are rumours in the German press that Southampton are 1 of a number of Premier League clubs interested in Sandro Wagner of Darmstadt. He is a 6ft 4in striker, 28 years old who has scored 14 goals in the Bundesligue this season, the second highest German scorer behind Thomas Müller. The fee could be around €3million.

Question to the Eds
If Man U win the Europa Cup, thus qualifying for the Champions League, and finish 5th in the Premier; would that open an opportunity for Saints to qualify for Europ next season by finishing 8th?

Why not Eds? If utd finish fifth they'll get Champions League meaning that spot will go to the team that finish 6th. They also won the league cup meaning that a place will go to 7th place and it's Arsenal/ Chelsea in the FA cup final, so surely if Chelsea win that it'll go to the team at eighth (won't be us)
{Ed002's Note - Of course not - to play in Europe you need to qualify. If Manchester United finish 5th and win the Europa League there will be 5 teams in the Europa Leage and two in the Europa League. They don't give places to sides that don't qualify.}

ED002 - I think the point was that in past seasons, if a team qualify, who have already qualified via a cup, then usually the place goes to league finishes. I didn't think that 8th would qualify regardless, but I think this is why people may think it will.

Interesting striker worth looking at from St Pauli - Marvin Ducksch, currently on loan to Holstein Kiel, has scored 18 goals this season plus 11 assists.

Of course MP is not worried about being sacked; he has a contract for 3 years: if the board sack him then he can safely sit on his arse for 27 (? ) months receiving his pay check and we have to bring in a more expensive replacement. I can go back to the early 70's when Saints appointed a certain Lawrie McMenemy to replace Ted Bates, LM received the same abuse, same demands for his sacking - Yes, we did go down - unluckily on an FA rule change made the previous season. But look where he took us in the next 10 years. I firmly believe that the problems now are leftovers from the previous season and were inevitable whoever replaced Puel.
Even if Saints had employed Pep we would have been in the same situation unless we went out and spent 200million+.
The blame, if any, should remain fairly and squarely with the commercial management and the board.

That's a shame, just read that he has signed a contract with Beijing, hopefully Saints will move a bit quicker if they are serious about Tuchel.

We do have a great squad but my personal view is that if we fail to win against Wolves next Saturday then Jones has to go, and go quickly. I hope that the owners are already in discussion with a competent replacement; I would bring back Poch if he was willing to take a chance

Ralph's detractors have gone quiet I am glad to say. He inherited a load of deadwood from his predecessors that have almost been cleared out and now we are starting to see the real potential of his appointment.

ED001, I watched this month from the comfort of my living room and within the first 5 minutes I was cursing at the screen re the lack of High Pressing and Leicester were already running the defence ragged.
But IMHO the game was lost before the kick off. I have a question; who won the toss? If it was Leicester and they elected to play with the wind, great decision. If Saints won and elected to play against the wind it was a terrible. There is nothing worse for a goalkeeper or defender to be playing with wind and rain driving into their faces and it told. ….
{Ed001's Note - that is a good point, I never saw who won it to be honest. I can't remember who kicked off, because they would have lost the toss (unless that rule has been changed and I haven't noticed).}
