Stephens has signed a new contract but more importantly gone out on loan to 'Boro for this season. Surely with Gardos injured he would have been in the '4th choice' slot so there must be another centre back coming in for definite?

Also, Turnbull has gone back to Swindon on loan where he was palyer of the year last season. Interesting then that McCarthy got the bench spot in the Europa game.
I think you're right but will it be VVD?

2.) 03 Aug 2015 20:35:48
Probably, also Turnbull seems to be on his way for another season loan out at Swindon so vvd looks very likely

Italian media (more than your regular pinch of salt then) are reporting that we are still in for Virgil Van Dijk. Might be recycled reporting but thought I'd mention that it's cropped up again. Van Dijk/Vlaar and another winger/attacking midfielder and I think we're reasonably well placed.

1.) Virgil Van Dijk and Ron Vlaar will do for me. I think we've got decent wingers with McQueen and Isgrove

2.) Remy all day long

3.) Well that's obviously going to happen.

4.) Any news on vlaar

5.) 15 Aug 2014 19:35:42
Anybody read in to the news that Vlaar is doubtful for Villa tomorrow with a slight knock? Might just be co-incidental that we are almost definitely after him. Seen these mystery injuries happen many times when there is transfer speculation.

6.) Hi Ed, any news on Ings? He's been spotted several times in Southampton.

{Ed001's Note - he has family there.}

7.) 16 Aug 2014 08:21:07
This is my first ever post I normally just read them. Seriously Steve0 drop the ings thing. You know he is from Southampton. You have been told many times. Stop with the annoying questions. That along with some nasty comments are what scared off ed002. Even though he was a little blunt in his delivery sometimes everything he said came true

8.) 16 Aug 2014 11:09:14
Dear Lord. Is the Ing thing still rearing its head

9.) 16 Aug 2014 18:30:59
Ings actually said he wanted to stay with Burnley and Southampton never made enough interest in him to make a claim for being interested. Fantastic player along with vokes. Would love to see them both but this site is about posting rumours and actual possible targets for people who want to know, not about people stating what they would like. It's a transfer rumour site. I'd like to think people would post real rumours and targets not feelings or wants.

10.) Were linked to everyone so therefore free to talk about any.

DailyFail reporting today that Lallana has 'heart set' on Liverpool and that they are front runners to sign him ahead of Utd. Naturally, nothing remotely constituting a quote or evidence to back it up.

I don't believe it, just reporting what's been said! Hoping he stays and think he will for at least another season. Anyone heard anything more concrete about whether he's staying or not?

1.) Here in Australia, journalists have some limitations placed on what they can write - designed to promote integrity within the profession, higher professional standards, and the reporting of fact over fiction.

Does the same not exist in the UK? Wasn't the Leveson Inquiry supposed to, in part at least, address professional standards?

Apologies eds, I know it's off topic, I'm just getting a little peeved with all the blatant lies that are written. An eight year old with a 45 IQ could quite easily write for the DM.

{Ed001's Note - there are few who adhere to that in the UK any more. The Guardian used to be the most reliable of papers, when it came to sport, now they are reporting gossip and rumours as facts. They have turned into a piece of tabloid gutter trash with the rest of them. It is bad enough we get Sly Sports News making up utter lies every transfer day, that fans sadly believe to be true (the Babel copter nonsense is one that springs to mind that the player himself makes jokes about because it was so stupid!), now there is literally no papers or news station that has integrity left.}

2.) I gather Eurosport isn't much better, given their pathetic 'paper talk' article everyday!

What are your thoughts on the BBC as a source then, ed? I've generally found them to be reliable.

Btw good work on interacting with the posters on here eds! Helps to have a few level headed people on here!

{Ed001's Note - I used to find the BBC extremely reliable, but lately they are getting shoddy, at best. Their articles are riddled with errors or inaccuracies, not sure whether it is deliberate misinformation or just poor research. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they are just lacking in quality researchers though.

There are a few decent places out there to find info, Associated Press and Reuters tend to be excellent and just stick to the facts, which other journalists then embellish later to write stories for the tabloids etc. Transfermarkt are fairly reliable, comparatively at least, they are often much closer with their reported transfer fees than the BBC etc. Also, if you are interested in the finances of football, there is no better blog out there than SwissRambles which is very in depth, though his articles are infrequent, unfortunately. Oh and I have no affiliation to any of those, just ones that I recommend as a footie fan.

Thank you, I do try and spend as much time as I can chatting on the sites. It is what the sites are meant to be about the interaction.}

Koeman yesterday put out the rumours of a move for Vlaar saying we have Gardos now instead. Said he wants to move for one or two more players, specifically a winger. Also said that spider is ready to be selected and play after a strong week training.

Tuchel just ruled himself out of the job, seen it on Sly. Interesting to see who we get! Needs to be soon, as we need to sort out the squad.

Not happening - reported in Dutch media (albeit I've only seen this on Twitter so take it with a big bucket of salt) that we've cooled our interest.

Fonte staying is top news but another CB would be good for competition. We've not signed anyone to pressurise our first choice back 5 (realistically, McCarthy and Pied are not going to be usurping Fraser or Cedric) so another decent CB would keep Fonte and VVD competitive. I'd take Sakho, he's a bit rogue mind.

Really feel like we're short of the mark this year - all the teams around us have improved dramatically this year. Look at stoke and palace's front 6 compared to ours now. Can't believe we won't be bringing in a centre forward to replace Pelle or a strapping CDM to replace big Vic. Romeu has been appalling so far.

Trying to stay positive but fearing we might be in for a bottom half season this time around!

My point being that JayRod most certainly has not returned in the same shape as before and as such doesn't look half the player he was. I'm sure our backroom staff know what they're doing but I wouldn't be singing their praises too much in terms of Boufal's injury just yet.

On a different topic, anyone else think we're really short of the mark this year? Trying to stay positive but feel we've been far too naive thinking we've got enough quality and depth.
