Is it time to get hassenhuttel out yet😬.

09 Aug 2018 17:13:40
A little underwhelming but not the worst. Just have to hope gabbi and Charlie stay fit I suppose. Here's to the new season!

{Ed001's Note - Danny Ings is on the way mate.}

1.) 09 Aug 2018 17:32:08
Deal sheet in. Ings on his way to Soton. Source:bbc sport transfer day feed.

2.) 09 Aug 2018 18:11:45
Well to be fair to the club with ings on loan this has been a pretty successful transfer window. We look to have strengthened in the right areas and with Hughes in charge this could be an enjoyable season. loaning Ings is the right way for the player and us because this try before you buy scheme was the only way anyone could possibly contemplate taking him . So for me the club get 8.5 out of 10 so COYR let's take Burnley after their Europa travels on Sunday all the best for the season guys regards vs.

3.) 09 Aug 2018 20:52:31
Thanks ed. Hadn't heard about ings! Not bad loan deal. COYS!

{Ed0333's Note - how does it feel to get a player from Liverpool instead of the other way round. Shame you couldn’t take Clyne and Lalana back mate.

4.) 09 Aug 2018 20:59:59
If we can get zings to play for us as he played at Burnley playing off either Austin or Gabbiadini we’ll have made a good move. Not entirely sure why we didn’t just get on with it and sort this all out a lot earlier.

5.) 10 Aug 2018 16:26:56
Get rid of jay Rodriguez who was far better than Ings before his long term injury and sign Danny ings who's now in the exact same position for 20 mil after signing Monaco's 4th choice striker for 20 mil also. maybe we should of just kept Rodriguez and saved ourselves 40 million pound. Southampton have undone everything good they have done in about 2 seasons. And I'll be amazed if we stay up. On the brightside Shane long Charlie Austin and Danny ings might hit double figures combined this season, league starts that is days out injured I expect their smash treble.

6.) 11 Aug 2018 03:37:56
Loving the positivity SRG!

7.) 12 Aug 2018 15:38:55
Not being negative but I would just wish Redmond would take a few chances and stretch their defences a bit more
He’s got the ability but lacks the confidence
Anyway a point against a solid Burnley isn’t the end of the world.

8.) 12 Aug 2018 22:10:11
Completely agree Diggy, but I actually thought he did a better job of that today than he did last year. He seemed a lot more direct when he got the ball.

9.) 13 Aug 2018 20:25:14
Ings was immense apart from one offside he did nothing wrong. Redmond was much better but beats three then checks watch sterling goes till the end good or bad Vestergaard got better through the game much better with 4 at the back and Stephens more than capable at rb in back 4. Austin and redmond either need to close properly or not bother thought CA was very poor surprising full ore season with no reported jiggles would rather see big Sam start.

28 Aug 2017 08:57:13
Perhaps u can help eds. What is it the club hope to gain by keeping vvd? Surely he won't play for us anyway if we keep him and if he does I can't see it will be with any conviction on his part. I know he could go to a club that is not Liverpool, but given their stance even selling to anyone would make a mockery of thier current statements. How does either side come out saving face?

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool and, in particular Klopp, are totally responsible for the damage that has been done and the situation Southampton and the player find themselves in. I cannot personally see a way back for the player or the club and would expect him to move on this week.}

1.) 28 Aug 2017 11:06:04
Thanks ed. I agree he needs to move on now but just can't understand why club are sticking to the 'not going anywhere' story when they must know he needs to leave too. Surely it will make us look weak? Why not just be honest and say will be going? Does our current stance increase his value?

{Ed002's Note - No clubs think about other clubs "looking weak" just like they don't care about "statements of intent" or any such thing. This makes no difference to his value.}

2.) 28 Aug 2017 17:05:56
Thanks for thoughts ed! Personally I just want the saga to end. It seems like it has dragged on and perhaps scuppered other transfer opportunity we might have had with the income.

3.) 28 Aug 2017 19:27:53
World Cup next year, can't see him being picked if he hasn't played the entire season. He's on a very long contract, the club has all the power and it's nice to see them not being bullied into selling for once. I expect him to stay and apologise and play again.

4.) 28 Aug 2017 19:45:16
Will fetch more in January.

5.) 28 Aug 2017 21:11:26
Spoke to an ex saints player 2 weeks ago and he had spent the whole Friday at saints. Won't name him but I was on a flight to Guernsey he stated categorically that VVD was not for sale this window and would NOT be going to Liverpool- clearly money talks but that was the clubs stance and appears to remain so. Why would anyone sign for a manager who appears to think he is bigger than the players the way they have treated sakho and mignonette seems appalling and basically bullying in any other workplace. Also why would anyone want a player who has basically been on strike twice at two clubs comes across ok but appears to be a merchant banker.

6.) 29 Aug 2017 09:58:21
Saints0001 I agree with you but also why would we want a player who has basically been on strike twice and appears to be a merchant banker.

08 Dec 2016 22:19:29
Why do I bother?! Bit peed off if i'm honest as would have liked more of a run in europe, but I guess it reduces squad pressure. Goal scorer a MUST now in jan. Will being out of europe prove costly here I wonder? Last thing, what is the point of goal difference if it has zero effect on qualification.

1.) 08 Dec 2016 22:41:02
Agreed - I thought we had done enough when we scored only to find out it doesn't count for anything because it is head to head if we both end up on same points.

2.) 09 Dec 2016 07:01:24
If we start doing well in the prem I don't mind being uot of the europa league, but if we carry on being rubbish I too will be v pissed off.

3.) 09 Dec 2016 16:24:51
I don't expect us to meet the dizzy heights of last season this year in the prem unfortunately. The best we can hope for is a mid table, obsolete boring season like those enjoyed by teams like stoke and palace before us. Although there is always the enjoyment of watching those West Ham fans trying to get tickets in the championship next season in their amazing new stadium!

4.) 09 Dec 2016 18:59:07
I agree with most here, but if we do buy a proven goalscorer then this may make a difference, we make good chances every game and need someone to be ruthless - in my eyes we haven't got the replacement for Mane and we need a replacement for Jay.

5.) 10 Dec 2016 16:51:44
Goalscorer and someone to link it all together. dusan looks great this year but needs support.

6.) 11 Dec 2016 22:33:45
Agreed, we need s goal scorer who is more than a target man as dusan isn't assisting as much this year, a creative scorer, just please god not sturridge! Too expensive. we need to go to that black box and produce a pearl. NOW!

31 Aug 2016 17:06:28
Although I have generally backed board decisions here, I feel we do need to sign someone at CB as man utd could still gazump us at last minute with no time left. Hope I can write again later with a positive message. 6 hours left.

1.) 31 Aug 2016 17:22:04
Still don't think we will be signing anyone. Normally there are at least snippets of info out there if it was to happen.

2.) 31 Aug 2016 21:11:47
agree, I think we've done all our business this window now.
Pity really, we'll see how we get on.

3.) 31 Aug 2016 21:39:47
We're doomed! Haha not really liking the new manager or tactics yet but will still get behind the team, manager and players and see what he is about.

4.) 01 Sep 2016 08:27:44
Unfortunately we don't look like a team who could win 8-0 again regardless of the opposition. No question we signed some great young players but we desperately needed a striker. We cannot rely on a hard working Shane long who isn't a goal scorer and Austin who is an injury doubt. No need to panic as mid table looks realistic but a striker should have been the priority!

5.) 01 Sep 2016 13:13:11
We didn't 'look' like a team that could beat anyone 8-0 the season we did that either .

6.) 01 Sep 2016 21:02:52
That's true but I would have liked another dimension to our game the diamond I know is new and yes the players are struggling but when is 2.2 and you can see a win chucking on a big striker and crossing for fun would have helped I think.

Today's results have gone for us pretty well. No one around us doing great.

1.) 17 Mar 2019 00:27:04
Yes Leicester really did us a favour today, I think wolves at home we will lose, they are having a brilliant season, I agree with other posters Cardiff and Burnleys run ins are dire and 38 points will see us safe. A quick question what is wrong with Claude Puels management style? First us now Leicester answers would be appreciated. coyr.

2.) 18 Mar 2019 06:36:55
Been wondering the same thing. Maybe CP has a more "boring" style where the counter attacks aren't always as one would expect? He did well with us until the other teams more or less figured out what out game plan was each game.

{Ed001's Note - do you not think it was just about him lacking charisma? The fans find it difficult to get behind him because of that. People just want their leaders to be charismatic, rather than good at what they do. That is why they vote for big personalities rather than someone who is actually good at being an MP or PM.}

3.) 19 Mar 2019 09:54:29
I was ah we’d have seen more of him like he was at Anfield and Wembley in our cup run, full of passion. His post match interviews were always a bit dour but I didn’t mind too much.

I think the main problem was the inconsistency in results down to his style of play. Able to beat Chelsea away, City at home this season, but then lose at home to a saints side with 10 men and against a poor Cardiff side - I think fans would rather beat lesser teams and give the top sides a good game, than keep losing to relegation threatened sides for no apparent reason.

I do think we didn’t do him justice though, and maybe Leicester will eventually follow suit in dropping down the table, but I definitely wouldn’t class him as a poor PL manager. I think in a less competitive league like France his methods work just fine, and they did. maybe in his native tongue he was more effervescent in his post match interviews as well 😜.

10 Mar 2019 12:18:05
Cedric who?! Get in Valery!

19 Feb 2019 07:47:08
Ralph will be off to Chelsea then!

09 Feb 2019 19:04:55
Brighton not doing us any favours then.

1.) 09 Feb 2019 19:43:55
Ralph is still our best bet but he needs to control the negative comments. We have enjoyed the new manager bounce and now it is now down to trench warfare till the end of the season. Comments about unbelievable stupidity won't help and a spell in the second tier is now looking likely. Big test of Ralph's temperment over the next month.

2.) 09 Feb 2019 20:58:18
I think the comments about unbelievable stupidity are totally fair and probably needed. After Burnley and now Cardiff they are needed, the team, the defence, need a MAJOR kick up the arse. Teams who concede as many late goals as we concede get relegated.

The comments about "not wanting to play my team, we're on fire" those are the stupid comments that shouldn't be made. All Warnock had to do in his team talk was show his players that, and tell them to do it for sala. Job done.

Maybe, we can take some points off of teams that we're not expected to beat. can we go to arsenal and get something,? . the problem is we really needed to be taking points off of those around us. Palace was ok, Burnley disappointing, but today is straight up worrying. Conceding two weeks running in the last minute against teams we needed to beat.

There's no point in moaning about us not spending. Who was available that would have improved us? Clubs didn't want to sell. Nothing you can do. All we can do now is pull the finger out, not make the same mistakes again, the crowd has to step up too. The stadium did against arsenal and were probably a big part of us getting the win. Against palace atmosphere was crap. I don't know what it was like today I wasn't there. But was it bouncing? I doubt it.

We are in a massive battle, and an uphill struggle from now on, when we should have had a 4 or 5 point cushion and some breathing space.

3.) 09 Feb 2019 21:35:35
It was a strange performance. WE started sharply, inter-passing . moving the ball quickly, controlling the game. BUT they just didn;t know how to break down a team that was just sitting back defending. We have three 'leaders' in Midfield . Romeo . Hoej and JWP (much more so recently) . but up front we had no one to drive the team, make the runs, find the spaces. WE simply ground to a halt as soon as we were faced with a wall of players .

4.) 09 Feb 2019 22:45:31
Fulham is now absolutely must win. MUST. WIN. At least Brighton are falling like a stone and there are plenty of teams within striking distance.

5.) 10 Feb 2019 08:30:43
Good review rich. I guess that's the thing now with playing at home, especially against teams like Cardiff and palace. They know we play decent football but lack a bit of the killer instinct to unlock and break them down. So they defend deep, compact and probably know they will get a chance against our defence late on or from set pieces.
Agreed that Fulham is now must must must win. Their defence is worse than ours so no excuses. Maybe go to 4-2-2-2 and really take the game to them?

6.) 10 Feb 2019 14:28:28
I also think the unbelievably stupid comment was justified.
Romeo not for the first time this season, lost his man; the opponent attacked the ball and Romeo watched! As for Jack S's pass out of defence straight to their player . was beyond stupid; it was naive, poor, unprofessional and resulted in their goal. Bednarek and Vestergaard have learnt very quickly when to put it into touch, kick it as far as possible, but Stephens still has the Hoedt habit of passing and dribbling at the wrong time. Time for Yoshida!

7.) 10 Feb 2019 15:20:55
I think after venting following the initial disappointment of losing, this thread has taken a slightly more balanced lean which is good.

Look, we have a new manager who is still working with the squad to improve them. The professional view is that whilst a new manager can have an initial impact if man management is good, it can take 6 months or a full season for a manager to get the team playing the way he wants. This is of course not accounting for bringing in new players and having to start from scratch with them. Statistically speaking we are so much improved under RH its not funny. This article on Football365 gives you some insight:

RH wants us to play a low possession high press, classic counter attacking with pace and penetration. It has worked well against the big boys who want to come and have possession and dominate us. But in recent weeks, it has been less effective against teams like Palace, Burnley and Cardiff because they are happy to cede possession to us and invite us to break them down. As already pointed out by you guys, we and every other team in the league, Man City and Liverpool included, find it very difficult to break Premier League opposition down this way.

So I’m sure RH will be looking on ways to get the team to be patient and wait for their moment against such a defensive wall, just as Man City have to do. As fans, we need to acknowledge this as well and not get on the team’s back if, like yesterday, we’re totally dominating the game but unable to score the goal that will open the game up and work more in our favour.

I’m perfectly happy with RH’s comments about us dropping points as a result of stupidity. These are mental errors leading to sloppy, complacent play or poor decision making and it has cost us 3 points in the last two games. A team is often at its most vulnerable after scoring, as the old adage goes, and so it proved yesterday. The way Stephens and Bednarek celebrated the goal, relief aside, suggested job done. A goal in injury time often goes unanswered as time slips away. But for those last few minutes, our defence had to be switched on, hyper-alert. Make sure of the point we had to battle so hard for.

Instead, Stephens was complacent on the ball, misplaced an easy pass and the result was a Cardiff counter and a winning goal for the opposition. Romeu was at fault for Cardiff’s first goal yesterday, as per usual switching off at the key moment and letting his man drift away from him and, in this instance, being in the clear to stab the ball home.

These are professional footballers and so whilst I think we must be patient with our playing style against deep-defending opposition, we can still expect our players to make better choices and concentrate during the key moments of the game. RH will coach them to make them able to make better choices with the ball, but this will come with time.

He can also give coaching and instructions about complacency in matches which will hopefully eradicate these silly errors from our matches. RH is passionate and it often goes both ways; if the players can bask in his happy moments, they must also appreciate when silly errors are creeping into the game and at this crucial stage, he will let them know about it. The errors were stupid and I’d rather hear him say so than try to blame the referee or luck.

8.) 10 Feb 2019 20:36:42
I think he was saying in a roundabout, slightly unsubtle, angry way . what's the point of my hours of coaching, technically and tactically . if one, Romeu decides to just sit back and watch his man . and two, Stephens for absolutely no reason (he was under no pressure) passes straight to their player!
these are the same players we have applauded recently, that were defensively brilliant against Leicester . that beat Arsenal . and yes it is frustrating to see Romeu one again watch the opponent . but we are soooooooooo much more exciting to watch, the interplay at times is breathtaking .
so COYR! and please Romeu mark your man,

Wow 002.this was very insightful. What is happening to the beautiful game?! Reading this, should saints be less woried about signing players to stayin the prem rather finding a chinese buyer? Might it be why Kruger is trying so hard to sell our brand in America because he knows what lies ahead?
