Not expecting miracles today but hoping to see a vast improvement, especially in defence. I'd like to think that we can get a point although Arsenal are playing really well at present.

Absolutely awesome! Awesome awesome awesome! Love Ralph’s passion, love the players’ passion, love the crowd, love the club! That’s the kind of result we’ve needed for about two seasons, can’t remember the last time we beat a big club at home - seeing Ralph and the players on the pitch at the end was amazing, what an appointment! Now a win next week at Huddersfield will be just as big and really give us momentum into our tricky run, another 6/ 7 points by the end of January will do for me 👌🏼.

2.) 16 Dec 2018 15:42:02
Amazing. felt we could get something, but the passion on and off the pitch was amazing. At Mary's was rocking again, welcome back.

3.) 16 Dec 2018 17:41:43
A well deserved win well over due on wards and up wards
Fare play Ralph.

Ryan Bertrand to play tonight. Clasie not yet ready but he's back in training so hopefully not too long before he's back

1.) 23 Sep 2015 18:55:17
Gaston on the bench?!

10 Sep 2015 16:55:15
Ryan Bertrand hopes to be back training on Monday. Clasie not for a while yet.

teejaysaint

1.) 11 Sep 2015 09:03:43
Seems odd about Clasie being injured for so long , when asked two weeks ago RK said that all the players apart from the long termers would all be fit and back in full training after the international break . Now he says he is not close to being fit , odd . I hope we haven't bought another Gaston and in the position Clasie plays he will get injured in this league if he is a bit lightweight . We only saw him close up in the one game he was involved in at St Mary's and bingo longish injury . I know I'm a pessimist but it doesn't look like he will be injury free very often.

2.) 11 Sep 2015 09:50:09
He didn't ever say they'd definitely be back for the West Brom game, it was just a target in his opinion when asked by reporters. Even though Bertrand will be back in training on Monday he has not trained or played a match for three months now, so it might not be until mid to late October we see him closer full match fitness.

As for Clasie even though it seemed like an innocuous injury at the time, having a person's dead weight land on the back of your ankle could cause a lot of damage to the ligaments, there would be no good in rushing him back if it could lead to further setbacks. And it seems silly to compare him to Ramirez given his main issue has always been his fitness and not so much actual injuries.

3.) 11 Sep 2015 10:42:23
Don't agree about Gaston's fitness , every report has said that he has picked up knocks and nothing has ever been said about him being unfit just very injury prone .

4.) 11 Sep 2015 17:44:02
The only thing that Koeman has said about Ramirez's current absence from the first team came back in pre-season when he said was left behind because he wasn't at the fitness level needed to be to play. Prior to that Ramirez has had three injuries with Saints, a hamstring, a thigh and ankle ligaments all of which happened before we loaned him out to Hull. I think we need to accept that it's not an injury that's keeping him out of the team here.

Heard a rumour this morning that Erwin Koeman is not in Switzerland with the Saints squad but is in Spain. He could be looking at a player but I wonder if he's checking out Barcelona ahead of a possible move for him and RoKo in the summer. Also rumour resurfaced about RoKo going to Newcastle

teejaysaint

1.) 06 Mar 2015 11:26:59
Or he could be taking a long weekend break!

2.) 06 Mar 2015 13:27:02
That could also be true Saint Martin.

3.) 06 Mar 2015 13:32:05
I think your a bit bored mate.

4.) 06 Mar 2015 17:22:36
Why on earth would he leave Saints for NUFC? Bigger fanbase and stadium yes, but I think its blatantly obvious we are above them in every other aspect of Football. Academy, owners, facilities current position. Where did you hear this rumour? I didn't hear it the first time let alone the resurfaced one.

5.) 06 Mar 2015 18:32:27
Neil Moxley. Last weeks Sunday People

6.) 06 Mar 2015 19:38:07
Erwin is in Davos with the rest of the first team squad. He's in the pictures and videos uploaded to the official site, from yesterday's ice hockey (!) and today's activities on the ski slopes.

7.) 07 Mar 2015 02:23:54
NUFC would love RoKo but then i'm sure RoKo would love Messi. Nothing story. Thanks for the chuckle but I am really not worried about him leaving for NUFC. How many decent managers would want to work for mike ashley?

8.) 08 Mar 2015 18:44:17
Koeman ain't going anywhere it's just boring boring media gossip as they haven't got anything to write about. Stop panicking and concentrate on a superb finish to this season. 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th would be a fantastic achievement after the start of the season with the exodus of players and manager we experienced. We WILL get better and better under Koeman the board and the academy (what about the under 21's getting to the final) Players are being lined up already for next season if we can't stop certain players leaving. I predict an upset at Chelsea next match. COYR's

Victor Valdes has accepted an offer to join Man Utd so Anders Lindegaard could be available. He could be just right as Fraser Forster's back up. What do other posters think ?

teejaysaint

{Ed002's Note - Lindegaard and Amos are both available.}

1.) Would love this.
I always felt he deserved more game time at utd when de gea looked dodgy the first couple of years. Always look good when he played and it seemed de gea was only getting the nod because of the fee utd paid for him

2.) Lindegaard is good enough to be playing regular first team premier league football. What would we want to sign to be back up. Granted would be a good signing for us but just can't see it happening. We do need someone though.

3.) Amos could be a good option? And provide good back up while he develops

Spurs 1-0 Saints at half time. Fulham a goal up. As it stands Saints are bottom of the league. I hope Mr Hassenhutl likes starting at the bottom.

According to the Telegraph Southampton FC are going to give Hughes time to turn things around. Just how much time can they give a man who is so obviously out of his depth. Maybe they're worried about how much it's going to cost to pay him off but relegation is going to cost an awful lot more.

1.) 26 Nov 2018 13:09:53
I’m a fairly positive fan when it comes to prospects and won’t predict loss after loss for the sake of being pessimistic but this is how I see the rest of 2018 going under Hughes;
LEI (Cup) : L
MUN (H) : L
TOT (A) : L
CAR (A) : D at best
ARS (H) : L
HUD (A) : D at best
WHU (H) : W if they don’t turn up, L if they’re on form
MCI (H) : L

That gives us about 13 points after 20 games - we had 19 at that point last season. If we get rid hopefully we can get a win away at HUD or CAR and really have to beat West Ham United but that still only gives us around 15, meaning we need at least 22 from the last 18 games - seeing as we can’t win at home to save our lives that means we probably have to win 4 out of 9 of our away games which I can’t see happening. I’d say if we don’t win at Cardiff or Huddersfield - likely the two teams going down with us at the moment, I’d say we’re already done for and it’ll be too late to get rid of Hughes by then.

2.) 26 Nov 2018 17:32:52
Just out of interest, do we need a new manager, or new players. If Gabbi hadn’t missed an open goal, we would probably have won the game. What can a new manager do with the players we have, unless you think we are good enough.

3.) 26 Nov 2018 18:36:05
Motivation is a key factor, as well as a positive playing style and instilling belief into the players - it wasn’t so long ago that a large proportion of this squad had a solid home record and there was little question of relegation as a club.
Yes players have moved on and new players of lesser quality have come in, but if you look at the squad Stoke went down with last season there is no way that should have happened - under Puel I think that that team would have been 12th at worst.
Also what Hughes says to the media must feed back to the team, so they think ‘oh we don’t need to change what we’re doing because we are close to succeeding’ but that isn’t the case - we’ve often missed clear chances but have still gone on to win games going back to Koeman/ Puel, we’ve never been clinical but have still won games.
I really like our squad and was excited with our summer signings - I’ve followed Vestergaard, ElYounoussi and Armstrong and was really happy we got them and our team definitely has the capabilities of being defensively sound, classy, quick and effective even if not clinical. Can’t see that happening under Hughes.
However I also think the fan base, albeit understandably venting their frustrations, haven’t helped the situation - we’ve all been used to success and now it’s going to crap it’s infuriating and we’re quick to turn on our team, but I don’t see what Hughes does to help encourage and uplift us except taking a lead we’re inevitably going to lose because we can’t keep ahead in a match to save our lives.
Drop Hoedt, Sack Hughes, start Vestergaard, Captain PEH and give more game time to Obafemi, Targett and Bednarek - if Monk came in I hope that this would be the case and would be happy to see him come in at this point.

4.) 26 Nov 2018 19:40:27
A new manager would need to get the squad fit! That is our main problem. Unfit players make bad decisions and can't hold on to a lead. Unfit players have to go off with cramp. Unfit players can't cope with the game mentally.
Cedric's comments in the press that he "knew we would throw it away" says all you need to know about the confidence levels and what Hughes is doing to change it.
A new manager (whoever it may be) needs to take an approach whereby he gets the players fit, but also gives them a reality check and starts working on their confidence!

5.) 26 Nov 2018 19:47:59
We need a new manager that’s for sure, we look less fit than we did 12 months ago.

6.) 27 Nov 2018 09:57:41
meanwhile cedric speaking his mind which is awesome. shows the players aren't happy with hughes and the overall performance.

10 Nov 2018 15:07:09
If we lose today we could be back in the bottom 3 . Surely if that happens Hughes will be given his P45 in the morning.

teejaysaint

1.) 10 Nov 2018 17:00:32
Bye mr Hughes.

2.) 10 Nov 2018 17:13:21
Can’t keep a leading position gave away more points than any other cub shocking.

3.) 10 Nov 2018 17:38:56
Second time in two seasons poor refereeing has cost us a win against Watford after that Doucoure handball, even after we scored I was just waiting for them to equalise and then probably win it but I’ll take a point.

How does Hoedt still get in this team!? Glad to see Yoshi back but why drop Vestergaard after not playing that badly and having Hoedt blast them in past McCarthy every other week?

If he’s still here in two weeks, if we lose at Fulham Hughes has to go - 8 points in 12 games is not good enough for our squad capabilities.

4.) 10 Nov 2018 19:49:29
I hope MH will be let go before Fulham. Maybe halfway through the international break to give interm manager some breathing room and what not. MH has no excuses. Good bye and thanks for keeping us up last season.

5.) 04 Nov 2018 15:28:26
I’m looking forward to the derby league match fixtures against Pompey next season!

6.) 04 Nov 2018 15:47:41
Yeah bit of passion at a game.

7.) 04 Nov 2018 16:06:28
It’s a shame the passion us mugs show every week doesn’t transpire onto the pitch or within the management
Staff
We seem to be spiralling into abilvion with no guidance from anyone
Our so called chairman’s shouldn’t be even sat where they are at the moment after the way we’ve fallen down the league
Koeman knew the writing was on the wall and I honestly don’t blame him leaving
Who should have hung his boots up at that point was les
He’s done nothing to suggest his positions should have been safe
Shocking manager and proving the director of football position is above his ability also.

8.) 04 Nov 2018 16:54:34
Ok so 6.1 that’s it enough is enough
Changes have to be made f***kin embarrassment for the club.

9.) 04 Nov 2018 17:06:46
Should have happened already diggy5471. I honestly don't know what Reed and Kruger do to earn their inflated salaries. Hughes is totally out of his depth. We need change now before it's too late. Got to give a new management team time to try and turn things around.

10.) 04 Nov 2018 17:35:04
Totally agree I’m stuck wtf did I get a season ticket
What a mug.

11.) 04 Nov 2018 18:15:58
I dare anyone to find an excuse for why our management should stay in place
Any other job you’d be long gone it’s all about results.

12.) 04 Nov 2018 20:08:00
I was a season ticket holder for almost 30 years until 2 years ago. I stopped buying it because I could see what was happening to our club. I have been a Saints supporter for well over 50 years and it hurts to see us going backwards like this. I honestly don't think there's a way out this season. I think that relegation is inevitable and I can't see us coming back up for many seasons if at all.

21 Oct 2018 20:51:45
I've just seen some stats that said that Saints are 5th in the list of chances created/ strikes at goal this season. The top 4 are the top 4 teams in the premiership. That either shows that our strikers are not up to scratch or that every keeper that plays against us plays the game of his life.

teejaysaint

1.) 22 Oct 2018 12:51:08
My theory: During the week, our Strikers train against the immobile Fraser Forster. Every shot they take in the week goes in with ease. On Saturday's they play against decent GK's and all their tame shots that they were scoring in the week can't find the net against all the decent Prem GK's.

{Ed001's Note - harsh but fair. Though you have to remember you have Shane Long and Nathan Redmond taking a large proportion of the shots - I doubt they hit the target in training either.}

2.) 23 Oct 2018 09:39:10
Honestly, Ed what are your thoughts on both players you've mentioned? Are they Prem quality? Do they bring anything to our squad? I know everyone loves Shane Long because of his tireless work, but does that actually do anything to improve the squad on match days?

{Ed001's Note - I think neither are good enough as even squad fillers. Long in particular is just pointless. He does not even add what someone like Giroud does in terms of set up play. All he does is run around in the wrong places like a headless chicken. The very least I expect of a player is for them to work hard, so, when the only thing you can say of a player is that he works hard, I would say he is clearly not good enough.

As for Redmond, he lacks intelligence. He doesn't have the right attitude either, he does not listen to coaches and instructions well as he thinks he knows better. There is the potential there but there is little chance of him realising it while he is with Saints. He needs to be taken down a peg or three.}

I read somewhere that Upamecano has a release clause of £90 million so I don't think we'll be getting him. As for Selke, he's only scored once in his last 12 matches so probably no better than the strikers we already have.

Sorry SaintUS but I don't agree that we look fit at all. Most of the team are looking shattered after 65/ 70 minutes. Absolutely disgusting for professional sportsmen earning stupid amounts of money to not be fit enough to keep going for 90/ 95 minutes.
