We are being told to prepare for chaos at the ticket office before tonight's game . I purchased my tickets on line on Friday and they told me they had been printed out for collection tonight . It seems that I will have to join the queue with supporters who are purchasing tickets on the night for the game . It is not rocket science to maybe have one window for ticket collection only . Does anybody know from past experience whether this may be the case?

Hi chris, but late as the game has psssed, but there normally is a collection only office. The office nearest the itchen stand is sales and next one round to northam is collections, then away fans after that.

Is it just me or is anyone else wondering what is happening and taking so long for Fonte to sign a new contract? It was said an agreement was mad and it would then be formalized and signed after the transfer window closed?

Eds do you have any idea if and when the contract might be signed? thanks guys.

{Ed001's Note - it is not even a month mate, I wouldn't get too worried yet, finalising small details can take forever sometimes. If talks break down something will come out, and that is when it is time to worry. When it is quiet that means they are fine.}

Talksport reporting Keisuke Honda has blown us out in favour of the MLS in January. He's only 30, I'd love to see him here for 18 months, then maybe a move to the players graveyard would make more sense. Why throw away a chance to play in the Prem? I understand the money thing but he's a Japanese hero and we would be the right club for him surely. Maya have a word nipper.

Although I have generally backed board decisions here, I feel we do need to sign someone at CB as man utd could still gazump us at last minute with no time left. Hope I can write again later with a positive message. 6 hours left.

01 Sep 2016 08:27:44
Unfortunately we don't look like a team who could win 8-0 again regardless of the opposition. No question we signed some great young players but we desperately needed a striker. We cannot rely on a hard working Shane long who isn't a goal scorer and Austin who is an injury doubt. No need to panic as mid table looks realistic but a striker should have been the priority!

That's true but I would have liked another dimension to our game the diamond I know is new and yes the players are struggling but when is 2.2 and you can see a win chucking on a big striker and crossing for fun would have helped I think.

Any chance of any deadline day moves eds?

{Ed001's Note - impossible to say, while it looks to have gone quiet, it really depends on other clubs, regarding players becoming available or them losing players and wanting to replace them with one of yours. I would not rule anything out this summer. There are so many clubs with business left to do. Saints are certainly not a closed shop, as they would still like to add if possible.}

Do u know if we're looking at sakho on loan Ed? Apparently he's turned down West brom and stoke. I think he'd be a great loan signing.

{Ed001's Note - not heard of any interest from yourselves. Would have thought Fonte staying would mean he is not needed to be honest. Sakho looks to be digging his heels in.}

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2016 11:15:43
Fonte staying is top news but another CB would be good for competition. We've not signed anyone to pressurise our first choice back 5 (realistically, McCarthy and Pied are not going to be usurping Fraser or Cedric) so another decent CB would keep Fonte and VVD competitive. I'd take Sakho, he's a bit rogue mind.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2016 11:43:14
Studentsaint there are only rumours that Fonte is signing a new contract. I really hope he does but considering the new contract offer was on the table well over a week ago i'm starting to think he may well be off to UTD. Ed001 any news on Fonte and his new contract please?

{Ed001's Note - I was told he had decided to stay and agreed a new contract in principle, to be finalised after the window is shut and everyone has more time. I have heard nothing to suggest otherwise since then.}

Really feel like we're short of the mark this year - all the teams around us have improved dramatically this year. Look at stoke and palace's front 6 compared to ours now. Can't believe we won't be bringing in a centre forward to replace Pelle or a strapping CDM to replace big Vic. Romeu has been appalling so far.

Trying to stay positive but fearing we might be in for a bottom half season this time around!

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2016 11:25:00
Oh I wouldn't say that. I'm pleased with the in comings. Boufall and holjberg are good acquisitions. Jay Rod is back and has found the net again. Fonte has surpassed all our expectations and we have a new gaffer. I think we will dip our toe in for another defender, it may not happen but a few enquirers me might materialise into a signing if thingy goes to Everton. I'm happy as long as we don't loan out Jay.

Ed we've just signed boufal who also plays striker something has to give? Any idea's?

{Ed001's Note - in what way?}

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2016 09:25:00
Boufal CAN play as a striker but he isn't an out and out striker. He's very short and wouldn't be first choice as a target man or to hold the ball up. I expect we would likely be playing Austin with long off his shoulder and boufal in a three up front or an AMC (with an arrow going forward) like in champ man. He will be used as a playmaker in midfield I would think. We only have 2 tall target men up front to play with Long, so a new striker like Haller gives us options. Remember we are in 4 major cup competitions this season. Prem, FA, League cup and Europa League.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2016 09:36:06
Ed in someone has to leave.

{Ed001's Note - why? You sold Pelle and added Boufal. Redmond plays a different position, and was brought in to replace Mane. The squad is still very compact, there is no need to offload anyone.}

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2016 12:10:17
Ed is right, this isn't like last season because now we're playing with 2 strikers up top instead of one. We need more depth, because if Redmond or anyone gets injured and Austin's fitness is as shakey as it has been as of late then who steps in? Gallagher? With European football and the league to contend with we need another top end striker to compliment the others for rotation and fitness.

Sébastien Haller would be my absolute first choice in the department; as for the rest of the squad, I'd like to see Kieran Trippier on loan or maybe Wesley Hoedt of Lazio joining on a permanent to give us assurance of depth with regards to Gardos' injury.

Spot on Marko. More than a rumour. Fits the criteria of Puel as potentially a young striker who is getting better with age. 22yrs old 6ft 2in and pretty fast in movement. About £10 would secure him.

Come on Les gamble on him! Would be over the moon if brought in. With Boufal now in these two would add an extra dimension to our play.

Agree1 Disagree0

I personally would love Schweinsteiger to come for a season. I have posted before about the need for experience, You 'Can buy Experience'. Get the picture, 1.0 up against Inter Milan with 10 mins left, You need someone who has seen it, been there and done it. you need to slow the game down. He can do it. and as for wages, He's probably earn't enough not to care and will continue to earn well into his retirement being such a Legend in Germany .

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Agree9 Disagree1

30 Aug 2016 12:56:16
I'd take Crouch all day long!

I know he is 35 but he is tall, wins headers.
Long, Boufal and Redmond could all play off him.
Experienced.
Could play and cause problems in Europe.
I'd also take Rickie Lambert back.
Either/ or.

Type of forward we are looking for if you ask me.
Name a better forward at winning balls in the air and scoring goals at this level with experience.

Agree3 Disagree5

30 Aug 2016 13:04:24
Like I said hope its not true. The young lad Lloyd-Mann is highly rated up there tho.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 13:28:53
I hear that he is highly rated, yes.
I think that we need to bring in a CF as a priority and then this young lad for the future :)

I know they have promised one more signing; it has to be a CF
If we get a CF in it will really give us a chance to make a push this season!

Agree0 Disagree1

30 Aug 2016 13:54:43
I think there is more chance of Koeman begging to come back here to manage than us signing Peter Crouch . Crouch is 36 in 4 months, you are joking aren't you? Why not SRL at 34 if you are going down that road . Never going to happen.,

Agree1 Disagree1

30 Aug 2016 13:55:16
No no no. We need cover in defence. With Fonte and Van Dijk on the pitch against Sunderland we still conceded a goal. I know it was a pen, but we need to shore up at the back. If Jay Rod stays, we will be ok. Granted, not GREAT, but we need cover at the back as a priority over the striker. If we lose Fonte or VD to injury, or God forbid both, we haven't enough strength in reserve.

Agree4 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 14:01:12
Mark, taking crouch or lambert back is daft talk. We are in Europe, we have drawn Inter, we can't take those guys and expect to cause an upset. They don't get picked for their current clubs in the league so why would we want them? Love for both as saints players past, but we need to be realistic .

Agree4 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 14:29:25
Crouch would be for WAG replacement now Pelle has gone!

(Only way to get the media to mention Saints. )

Agree3 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 17:40:58
Sakho on loan would be good. Probably a better shout than mangala but I'd like to see us use the loan market if there are good options to. We need at least one more and certainly in defence.

Agree1 Disagree1

31 Aug 2016 07:21:16
James,

I'm just thinking this could give that 'something different' that causes worry to defences.
Especially in Crouch, his height and his aerial ability is up there among the best around.

I'm not saying this is an answer to our CF issues, but if there was a deal to be done at a 'reasonable' price (god knows what that is these days) I'd take a punt, definitely.

Never harms to have that extra option in the wings to use if we need to try and make something happen.

{Ed002's Note - I know of nothing related to Southampton.}

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 12:10:50
Jamesaint is that the same backroom and physio staff that were probably consulted on and confirmed that JayRod would return as fit, strong and quick as before so we should go ahead and offer him a new 4 year contract? .

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 12:35:04
Probably ^^ what's your point?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2016 11:12:47
My point being that JayRod most certainly has not returned in the same shape as before and as such doesn't look half the player he was. I'm sure our backroom staff know what they're doing but I wouldn't be singing their praises too much in terms of Boufal's injury just yet.

On a different topic, anyone else think we're really short of the mark this year? Trying to stay positive but feel we've been far too naive thinking we've got enough quality and depth.

What are we doing business 3 poor games into the season? Get the feeling this could be the season that finds us out. Sturbridge on loan? We desperately need a striker it's there for all to see. Charlie Austin on a break on Twitter not sure why he needs a break he didn't exactly put in a shift on Saturday- one of the worst performances I have ever seen.

The points were why are we still doing business so we are going to buy players who are injured or not had a pre season with us so will need time to gel. time we haven't got after the first 3 performances

We are desperate for a striker it's plain to see so why haven't we bought one or Sturridge on loan?

Austin is on Twitter in the sun ona break after Saturday and his chance to shine (not taken) with a start the last thing he needs is a break he needs to either get fit or get match ready cause he was neither.
Hope this clarifies jamesaint.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 11:41:48
I am with Dorset on this One. The whole body language of the team (and Tadic in particular) has an air of disatisfaction with the set up and style of play we are employing.
I too do not believe Puel will last the season. I have a feeling we will have a new manager by the opening of the january window at the latest.
I am a diehard saints fan but cannot help feeling we are in for a long hard winter.
The board, in my opinion, have made a succesion of inspired decisions but I do not the the Puel is going to prove to One of them. don't get me wrong I am with Saints (and the board) all the way.

Agree7 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 12:26:01
Agree that Austin seemed to be out of sorts Saturday. But I'm confident that his good games will outnumber the bad ones. At the end of the season Puel will still be here- another thing I'm confident about. Apparently Boufal has signed and we are still looking to get another signing in .

Cross fingers that Rodrigues gets more game time and returns to the striker he was before that terrible injury. The reason we are still doing business in reply to Saints0001 is that the board and manager are doing there damnest to strengthen the squad for a busy season ahead. Hopefully Forster will start for England ahead of " pretty boy - I got no dandruff" Hart.

Agree1 Disagree1

29 Aug 2016 13:20:13
I obviously want to be proved wrong, but I can't see it. As Abby said I think he will be gone by Jan. I think we need to splash out on a number 9 like Bony who would score 15 plus at a club like ours. Perhaps another midfielder to slot in next to Hojberg as I think Romeu is too hot and cold and Jordy is too lightweight.

Agree3 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 21:08:07
I agree with saintdorset regarding the next signings
We need to buy a proven goal scorer 15 - 20 goal a season to: push on, progress, march on, call it what you want
Also a commanding CDM and decent cover for CD
if VVD and Fonte get injured we've no EPL cover in the current squad

Hopefully there have been targets, enquiries and bids will be in place soon

As for Puel and how long his tenure will last, well that's a guessing game in itself, I have to say that I'm not over enthralled by him so far, but then again when RK started I wasn't (I'm not hard to please honest), he obviously needs time to prove himself.

Agree0 Disagree1

29 Aug 2016 22:53:39
Weahgirl1if are business is determined by the "black box" we shouldn't be doing it now unless the black box says that is how it should be done. Any business that buys its staff in any other industry after 10 percent of the year nearly would b a laughing stock. Buy your targets before pre season and train with them in non essential scenarios. Then when the season starts and the pressure is on you know each other.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 23:19:31
Forster for England No 1, then he will be on next years wanted list by top clubs. Liverpool maybe. lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 21:29:14
Don't get it. Austin played ok. He is never gone a chase if ball doesn't arrive closer than five yards. He is not Long so we need to play a different ball. Sunderland had 1 shot on target and it was a penalty. We will develop. We will be fine. Wiltshire or Swienstiger will do plus Haller and one surprise will do us well tomorrow and then we can play and start winning games.
