i think it is one from six to get relegated (Huddersfield and Fulham are down) can we get more points that a least one of the others? i think so. we are playing better and we have a proper coach. Danny Ings is a huge miss but we are scoring goals.

Right now I can’t see Burnley or Palace going down. I have a feeling Rafa will see Newcastle over the line. Cardiff are in inspired form however they have a difficult run in. But Brighton are dropping like a stone - right now they’re our best bet. They have a huge March where they play all four teams around them, much like our February, so if they don’t win any of those I think they’ll be gone.
Even so I think we should just about find enough and will finish 15th. Cardiff or Brighton to join the other two.

I think that it could go down to the last couple of games. In the past Saints have had players with pride and passion for the club and they've shown some backbone when in a dogfight at the end of the season but I don't see many of those type of players in our team now. Hopefully RH can get them firing during their break.

so how many points do you think we need to stay up?

I think that Huddersfield and Fulham are down but with Cardiff, Newcastle and Burnley picking up points it's imperative that we start to string a few good results together. At the moment I'm thinking that we'll need 38 points to stay up. Hopefully Brighton keep dropping points as they are now within touching distance.

I can see ourselves scrambling our way to 38. The good news is if it’s in our hands on the final day I’d think Huddersfield at home SHOULD be a banker.
Looking at other run ins I’d give around the following;

Brighton 41
Burnley 41
Palace 40
Newcastle 39
Saints 38
———————
Cardiff 36

That however is being fairly biased towards home wins between the teams in question, and all of the bottom eight still pretty much all have to play each other so if any one of those teams begins to capitulate at home I think they’ll be gone. We can’t afford to lose another home game against a non ‘Big 6’ side, but I think our best hope is that either Cardiff or Brighton go completely off the boil in March.

Good thing for us is aside Liverpool we don’t really play anyone with anything to play for in our last 7/ 8 games which should be a help (WHU, BOU, WAT, HUD etc) . I think if one team (like Burnley) get on a roll and end up with 48, that’ll be great for us if they can plough through Brighton, Newcastle and Cardiff.

Ultimately I think we need 4 wins from 12 - Fulham Bournemouth Wolves and Huddersfield at home are our best bet, else a squeaky 1-0 at Newcastle or Brighton. I’m still quite confident but if we don’t beat Fulham I’ll begin to be quite concerned.
