Saints are pushing hard to sign Broja, Chelsea want a sale and they will sanction Lavia on loan. Saints want Broja on loan which would then mean they couldn't have Lavia as well. Saints do not have the funds to buy either Broja or O'Rielly or any player more than about 12 million outright until they sell KWP /Bella Kotchap/Onaucha, all 3 or maybe just one. That is why they are trying to broker loans or swap deals plus cash.

How come we have so little budget remaining?

Would have thought we’d have more than that after promotion

Saints have spent, including all associated fees, approximately 50 million more than received. They still have massive payment responsibilities for players/ contracts/ taxes for the previous 3 years. Add to that the PSR rules, they must be careful not to overspend or overstretch their budget without having player sales income. Most clubs are being more cautious this year unless they can sell home grown players which allows them to offset the whole transfer fee against PSR . Saints will buy more players also they have 2 loans they can take from separate premier league clubs or 2 from the same foreign/ championship team. Hope this helps explain the finances.

So what's up with ABK? Is he going to be around this year? Even going with 3 at the back, 6 CBs seem like too many.

I have been told that ABK has a serious attitude problem and that it is highly likely he will be loaned to a German club for the season to try and improve his market value. Worryingly, Stewart is injured again and Larios is back in the treatment room. Saints are actively seeking a target man but funds are a problem. Unfortunately, transfer windows always create a last minute stampede when clubs and agents desperately try and sign or move on players. It might be that we have to start the season without that target man and keeper who is good with his feet. I would pay a large loan fee for Ramsdale, he would earn 8 points a season but sadly not my decision.

Thanks for the great intel @2408.

If Onuachu has no future at Saints, I would gladly trade him for loan fees plus wages for Ramsdale and Fraser.

Then if KWP wants to go, swap him and some of that 12m for O'Riley.

Loan or sell some of Charles, Mara, Edozie, Sulemana, ABK and Larios and put into Lavia's wages.

Then pick up a target man or winger with any money left, plus any fringe players we can sell.

Others feel the same?

Mara, Alcaraz and Sulemana have to leave so they can try and rebuild their careers, if they don’t, they could well follow suit with Djenepo/ Boufal/Claisie etc etc. Onaucha might have a short term future if Stewart cannot play until Xmas, we can’t sell/loan him until we have an alike replacement. Edozie will play quite a lot of football this season, not sure about Charles. Still 2 weeks to get some quality through the door, as it stands, I can’t see us scoring enough goals to win enough games for premier league survival.

The signing of Stewart must go down as one of our all-time transfer calamities - we bought him knowing that he had a long term injury and guess what, he’s unlikely to be fit for another half a season or so. Who was responsible for that decision?

I have a gut feeling that Sulemana will show up this season - I certainly hope so otherwise 2408’s prediction may come back to haunt us.

Keep checking my alerts for an update on Ramsdale - more in hope than expectation.
