Hi Ed,

It appears Southampton are still looking to offload from our bloated squad and the rumours are that more need to go and we may not get anyone in.

Are you aware of the short term/ long term goals as surely we need a striker/ centre back sooner rather than later or is the manager happy to start fresh in the summer (if we survive the drop and we manage to keep him of course)

{Ed002's Note - The short term goal is to get to the summer without relegation and thensort out the team.}

From reports I've read, heard, and from the recent fan forum, it seems to me that we are unlikely to sign anyone this window. That may change if an offer comes In for Cedric and we let him go.
I think the squad we have, with this manager, is capable of pulling clear of relegation. Yoshida will be back by February, and it seems RH trusts him enough along with Stephens, vestergaard and bednerak to make up the centre of our defence. I reckon once Bertrand is back he too may be used in the back 3 allowing targett to stay at lwb. Cedric can cover on the left and at rwb, it seems valery and even kayne Ramsey are now ahead of him in the pecking order.

He also seems to like ings and long up front, with Austin as back up and hopefully obafemi returning too. the midfield looks good to me.

As ed said, I think RH and the club will wait until we are safe from relegation before adding any players. Our squad is massive. We have so many players out on loan and a lot of players who are at male or break in their career. Ie. 22-23 years old but not given enough opportunity to break through.

Even come the summer I don't think we will make too many signings that early as RH will want to properly assess reed, Gallagher, sims, health etc. plus see whether boufal, carrillo are up to scratch or not.

We need to sell first. Not just because of money, but because our squad and therefore wage bill are too big.

Hi milky

Great post and I believe that you are right and I genuinely believe that holding back on buying in this window is the right way. We are in this situation with an overly large squad because of short term, knee jerk reactionary buying. I totally agree that we have enough quality to avoid relegation this season. I also believe that in the summer the market will be flooded with an excess of players being offloaded by clubs looking to reduce their bloated wage bills e. g. Everton. coyr.

Whilst I totally agree with your post I really think we should look at potential loan deals until the end of the season, and then give RH the money he requires for us to challenge for a higher finish in the league and possibly cup runs.

Ings is very injury prone and missed several weeks with us already and two seasons at Liverpool. Shane works hard but we need goals to win games, i'm always hopeful he will get a return on the work he puts in, but we are not in a position to be hopeful.
Charlie, for me, does not suit the style of play RH is integrating into the team.

We could do worse than looking at offering Giuseppe Rossi a short term deal as he is currently training with Man Utd to keep fit. This will save us taking a punt on spending 15/ 20 mil as we have done previously.

Marcus Rojo would be another player I would look for a short term loan until the end of the season. I know we have a few CB but I think he is a little more mobile than some others we have.

Lastly I would look to loan Victor Moses who can play a variety of positions and add adequate cover for others that are injured or just returning.

Those three players would be very minimal with loan and short term deals, and will add extra security for the club on money spent should relegation happen.

The press from the forwards is fine if they keep fit, but fitness has not been that good in the recent past.

I would certainly like to see another forward to help rest Long/ Ings.

Not an easy find in January but could be useful insurance.

Posh you mention ings being injury prone, which is true, but Rossi makes ings look solid! he's worse than Darren anderton! Lol

Rojo for me is no better than Bertrand as a centre half or wing back, so I don't see the point in adding him.

Victor Moses isn't a terrible shout. But he's barely played this season and his wages are ridiculous, so unless Chelsea were willing to still pay a chunk I couldn't see it happening.

Also, I've drawn a lot of my opinion from the info off ED too. certainly not trying to steal his thunder haha.
Just my opinion at the end of the day based on reports, the fans forum last week and the info that the eds offer up.

I honestly don't believe that Rossi, Rojo or Moses would be any better than we already have and their wages would be prohibitive. I think that we have enough quality to keep us in the premier league then hopefully ship out a few and give RH enough money to bring in 4 players of his choice in the summer. Obviously he has his way of playing and some members of our present squad are not up to it. I'm sure that he will know who he wants to hold on to and who he wants to bring in by the end of this season.

Looks like Moses is off to Fenerbahce on loan so that saves us even looking at him.

Hi guys

No matter if our opinions differ what is really great to see how many people are posting on here and how well supported Sfc are! Coyr.

Definitely enough quality in our squad to stay up even without January signings, agree on that. We do not have do any panic buyings this year (Carrillo seemed like one) . But if the right chance appears, then adding some one suitable would not harm a bit! If Cedric goes to Inter, we should replace him with Maehle or some one else.
