From what I have seen this evening Benarek is not good enough. Stephens is a better long term option. If van dyke goes we need an experienced partner for him. yoshida was better last year but still a great back up not Saints for the next generation. That being said who ever we buy will be sold in a few years anyway. Main point of my post is that Bednarek is not good enough.

How many games have you watched him play this season? No offense but an opinion of a player's ability judged on one match doesn't exactly hold enough merit.

Only seen him once, and you are right everyone can have one bad game he just looked out of his depth with average players playing against him. I am happy to be wrong I am just a life long saints fan who watches a lot of football and always want the best for the club.
Happy today with our new manager appointment.

Don't know much about the guy, but I watched the England -v- Poland U21 game and he didn't look great. BUT, we're not buying the finished article here. We'll be looking to improve him, as we have with every CB we've had for the last 3 or 4 years. I suspect the theory is that the Black Box has identified him as someone who has all the right qualities and attributes to become a much better player and our coaching teams will ensure he does.

My wife is Polish and I have spent a fair bit of time watching Lech Poznan over the last few seasons (as my Polish team) . I think Bednarek might well be a decent prospect but in my opinion is not a player that would be ready to step into the first team come next season.

He is a good prospect and has a chance but you only have to look at the young lad Kapustka at Leicester. He signed for them on the back of a very good tournament for Poland's senior team in the Euros last summer and has done nothing since he arrived, he has barely got a game. There is always an inherent risk is signing a) a young player and b) a player from such a weak league.

Most of the sides in the Polish League would not even compete at at Championship level. Lech and Legia would perhaps finish in the top half of the Championship with a fair wind but not much better than that.

Bednarek is currently (and only in my opinion) not the best player or prospect at Lech Poznan. In fact I would say he is not even the best centre back at Lech Poznan, it doesn't mean that he won't be a decent player in a few years time mind.

For what it's worth I do think there are one or two players in Poland that would cut it in the Premier League right away but I cannot see Bednarek being ready to play next season.
