Yes I am did you watch any games last year a keepers job is to save points not give them away you're obviously not if you think big Sam is the answer to saints problems.

yeah, let's have a moan about a 'keeper who still managed to keep 14 clean sheets (only 2 fewer than Courtois) despite playing half the season behind defenders who started the season as 3rd and (probably not even) 4th choice.

'Keepers make mistakes, doesn't make him a bad 'keeper.

Koeman would have taken FF in a heart beat but he knew he'd be up against it trying to sign him from us. He would have to pay much more than the 30m he paid for Pickford, we wouldn't make the transfer easy for him or Everton after last summer. Certainly not under the radar like they did with Pickford. A bidding war would have ensued and Liverpool would have jumped in as they have #saintsfc saved as a favourite hash tag in the transfer tavern.

Don't forget about West Ham, they would try to sign him as well, there isn't a footballer in the world that they're not trying to buy.

I still think Allardyce would have done a better job than Puel.

{Ed002's Note - Puel is a great coach - he had to suffer poor directors and hopeless fans.}

I'm with Eds on this. 8th and a cup final, after all the upheaval, plus more adversity than any of us have had in any job we've ever had. I really feel for the guy. We fans don't do ourselves any favours sometimes.

Both of whom seem to have unrealistic expectations!

What have the directors done eds perhaps you can elaborate. Les reed seems to be mooted as the saviour of the club and scouting genius however he may of been the most qualified coach in the country but only as he never managed Bar a brief stint at charlton before the sack. With regards to the owner clearly wants to cash in on her dads investment rather than fulfill the legacy if a dodgy Chinese investor can take us forward and get a return why can't she? . With regards the fans would agree we have been spoilt last few years and a season of defensive football with squad rotation has been a bore. Perhaps it was the reality check we needed. Onwards and upwards close the window now I'd be happy.

@WanderingSaint is spot on!

How many times have Saints finished top 8 in the 1st div?
How many times have Saints got to a cup final?
How many times have we done both in the same season?

Yes, perhaps we were guilty of playing a bit defensively and not scoring enough but what if we'd played a more attacking style of football, left a weak defence exposed, still not scored (or scored enough), lost some of the games we drew and actually been drawn into the relegation battle that some of you doom mongers would've had us in? I bet you still would've moaned about 'boring football'

much the same as if we'd played the same and scored more you'd have loved the football we played this season.

When we were at the dell with no money due to size of ground etc and punching above our weight we knew staying in the division was a major achievement but my expectations have changed with the selling of our crown jewells and getting multi millions from sky the least we should expect is to be entertained and score the odd goal, I don't expect top six and trophies but do want to see my hard earned cash invested in the team and come away seeing competitive football win lose or draw, unfortunately for mr puel his negative style and needless tinkering lost a lot of the fans and the cup run papered over the cracks.

You lot need to get a grip we had a crap season and there was only 6 points between us and 17th place TF everyone else had a crap season as well.

Would rather have finished in the bottom half of the table playing attractive football with a more exciting coach than 8th with the style of play Puel brings to the club. When you go from Poch and Koeman to Puel it's very noticeable and as a season ticket holder it was frustrating to watch us play most games. We need to start making St Mary's a tougher place for teams to visit. Tuchel would be my ideal replacement but can see it being tough to get him as I'd imagine a few others will be sniffing around.

No you wouldn't, that's a lie. You'd have been calling for his head because we were in the bottom half!

We will struggle to attract a coach of the level you guys seem to think we warrant. And when we don't you'll be moaning again.

We could and should have had a period of stabilisation and continuity. I really fear for next season now, and we could well be in a relegation battle. I hope not, but it's a real fear.

Not just directed at you bailey, but everyone who shares similar unrealistic expectations. Maybe I should have waited 'til tomorrow to post, a bit angry atm.

Completely disagree with with you, as a Southampton fan I expect our expectations to be fairly low based on the past few seasons of selling top players. Cup final was incredible and fair play to Puel for getting us there however the past few managers we've brought in have been playing incredible football so as a fan I've become custom to watching us play very attacking high line football. But Puel plays very negative football which as a fan I don't enjoy watching so I stick by my point off rather watching better football and finishing lower than finishing where we did with Puel.
