Just read that we had a fee agreed with Hoffenheim for Fabian Schar but as soon as they heard Fonte was going for £8mil they upped their price by another £5mil. We then apparently moved onto a CB from Portugal (club not allowed to be named apparently) my guess is Ruben Semedo.

That didn't work out in the end. That's when we apparently moved into Sakho but the fee they wanted for him was extortionate and his wages were far to high for what the club were willing to pay. That's when we moved onto to Tasci, plan was to loan him until the end of the season and then sign him on a free if he impressed but again the club felt his wages were too demanding.

Puel is happy to give Stephens a chance and is happy with Gardos' recovery and progress. I was certainly one that was unhappy with the clubs transfer business this window but after reading this I understand that we have a structure and none of the above players were worth breaking that for, so fair play Les.

Hopefully schar comes in the summer. we need 2 strong, first team starter centre half's as replacement for fonte and most likely van dijk. yoshida, Stephens and gardos as back up again

At over 1,000,000 per place in the league think its a bit short sighted not paying above the structure for a loan player who might of made up 7-9 points easily and possibly silverware. Think we have to go to a back 3 now with McQueen and soares as wingbacks and Bertrand (lb) joining Yosh (rb) and stephens (cb) best of the three in the air. Otherwis e we are going to get crucified no disrespect to stephens (big step up) and yosh (not physically intimidating and prone to one mistake a game) think bertrand would help shore things up. then romeu/ davis as hcm and boufal/ redmond/ tadic or long out wide with manolo through the middle. we need to stop teams scoring as a priority and try and hit on the break with the pace we have.

We need both Semedo and Schar in the summer. With VVD's future in doubt in the summer we really need two first team CB to be brought in.

Just because it's not plastered all over the media doesn't mean the club haven't been busy trying to get players in. Remember the player we buy are ones that will fit straight into our team and system . No point buying someone for the sake of buying someone.

I think our problem is paying their stupid wages, we haven't given in to the pressure to change our wage policy. Problem seems to be that all other clubs are finding the money to do this and hope it doesn't backfire on us. I do think the club is right though with this season being a transitional one, just hope there are 3 teams worse than us come game 38.

Rom saint I agree with you. No point buying if the player isn't right. But likewise there is no point selling unless we have a replacement lined up. Fonte shouldn't have been allowed to leave.
