Danny Welbeck anyone? Any news on this rumour?

1.) 06 Aug 2018 22:58:04
I slate him. But I think he's what we need and would be a great signing. I think we need at least one more in. Another dimension up top. We look woeful at the back, have conceded so many goals in pre-season. We're going to be relying on outscoring the opposition and for that you need more options than Austin, gabbi and long.

2.) 06 Aug 2018 23:30:13
I reckon he'll be too expensive personally.

And I don't mean too expensive for us, just that his asking price will be above of his value. If they're looking for 20-30 mil as I expect they would be, then he's not worth that, and we shouldn't pay it out of desperation.

The big ones I'm surprised we haven't worked harder at (in fairness, maybe we have been) are Dembele and Origi. Both are optimistic but plausible in my opinion.

3.) 07 Aug 2018 20:03:22
I don't think we would get Dembele but Origi possibly has a point to prove and I think he could fit our style of play. Still hoping that we might get Alcacer last minute.

29 Jul 2018 16:10:47
ALLEGEDLY Paco Alcacer interested in a premiership team any idea who that might be . Heard Watford possibly. Hope you can help ED, and thanks for all your hard work you put in.

{Ed002's Note - I don't know who interest him but of the interested sides, Leicester and Southampton offer him the best options. There might be a chance Everton enquired. I am not aware of an approach from Watford but they have enquired about a loan for an EPL forward so they are looking.}

1.) 29 Jul 2018 17:13:44
Many thanks ED.

12 Aug 2017 15:38:46
Eds do you think that VVD will go to Pool and Sakho come to us. If a player is not wanting to play because their heads been turned, get shot, and in Sakho ready made replacement.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

1.) 12 Aug 2017 16:00:09
I think we should just make a cheeky bid for Sakho anyway.

{Ed002's Note - Why, when Southampton has no interest in him and are working hard on another?}

2.) 12 Aug 2017 16:37:51
Ed002 do you know who saints are targeting currently, are we only after a defender if VVD is sold as I was informed we were after 4 players this summer with possibly 2 or 3 out (no names tho) .

{Ed002's Note - The priority is a centre back - but I don't think that will be it.}

3.) 12 Aug 2017 16:56:24
Who are we working hard on Ed?

{Ed002's Note - Wimmer.}

4.) 12 Aug 2017 16:57:04
To replace VVD or partner? Would also like to send my thanks I've been here for years and admire your contributions as it's a brilliant insight into the industry for people with little to no knowledge of how it really works.

{Ed002's Note - VVD will go. And thanks.}

5.) 12 Aug 2017 20:50:42
Ed002 do you expect VVD to go to Liverpool or Chelsea? And do you think Spurs will agree to sell Wimmer I've heard they're reluctant? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea - Spurs will sell if the right money is offered.}

6.) 13 Aug 2017 09:07:11
Personally think Wimmer will cost over the top in terms of price! But! That's today's market and he has potential just not playing every week which what he needs. Tbh I think ed right. Though not sure VVD will go to liverhampton because the clubs have had a massive falling out! So city or Chelsea! But I think next season tbh club seem to be playing hardball this year and good on them.

07 Aug 2017 11:51:15
Bas Dost get him and let's show the league how good we are.

16 Aug 2016 17:20:36
Ed . Any news or rumours on Bas Dost joining . I for one would welcome it.

{Ed001's Note - nothing that I am aware of.}

1.) 16 Aug 2016 19:02:52
Puel has stated that he is happy with our attacking options. I think our last signing will be a CB or CM.

2.) 16 Aug 2016 22:01:27
I think we need both positions tbh
All though puel has said his attacking options are sorted
He's let Gallagher go out on lone plus we already have had
3 attacking players leave and I just think
One mores in the pipeline
It has to be.

3.) 16 Aug 2016 23:08:49
Dost has been a target for 2 seasons. They are looking for a replacement and may have one after holding talks with zaza. I expect Dost to sign.

4.) 16 Aug 2016 23:42:07
Think we need a gker, think fonte will go after Fridays game so cb, think midfield is fine, just need to find best positions, would like a skillful, pacy winger who can deliver a good cross and a target man striker ( perhaps a squad player just to offer a plan b)

5.) 17 Aug 2016 14:12:04
Why do we need another keeper? Forster number 1, McCarthy backup and we can recall Gazza if needs be. I think we need someone better than Romeu, someone closer to Wanyama's standard. A solid CB to replace Fonte (if he goes) and a backup CB.

Like to see Bas Dost with Gabbiadini.

1.) 12 Jun 2018 12:31:45
I agree! Either Bas Dost, or Nicolai Jørgensen from Feyenoord who is very much in the Rickie Lambert mould.

2.) 12 Jun 2018 18:17:07
Really think Dost is a marked improvement on our current strikers?

My first reaction would be no, but I haven't really seen him play. Signing him would basically mean the end for Carillo though, considering their similar styles. Personally i'm not ready to write Carillo off when we've barely seen him in action. All depends what Hughes has been seeing in training though.

3.) 12 Jun 2018 20:28:45
I agree. You can't write Carrillo off that quickly. He came into the squad when we were at the worst part of the season and he wasn't given many chances to impress. I just hope he stays and does well next season so we can sell him on to Liverpool after Firmino goes to PSG or something. :p.

4.) 12 Jun 2018 22:22:28
Carillo showed more than enough in 10 games to prove he has no upper body strength, no foot coordination, no understanding of hold up play and no idea of where other team mates are on the pitch! He is not and never will be good enough to play as a centre forward in the premier league. Our manager, a fine centre forward and footballer, took a week to figure him out and put him in the stands or on the bench to make up numbers. Pellegrinos final act of incompetence was to pursuede the board to part with 19 million pounds on a poor player.

5.) 13 Jun 2018 07:13:51
SaintPaul that’s ridiculous. The guy came in last minute, right before a change in manager. Just because he didn’t set the world on fire from day one, doesn’t mean he ducks, sometimes players take time to settle in and find their role, and unfortunately for Carillo we were in no position to give him that time at the backend of last season.

Yet another example of complete irrationality from Saints fans. That’s the kind of thinking that leads you to ‘do a Chelsea’ and allow quality players to leave without even getting a sniff of the first team. I’m not saying that’s what Carillo is, I’m just saying you have absolutely no clue what you’re talking about when you say that he’s not.

6.) 13 Jun 2018 10:58:16
If I am wrong then I will apologise on this forum, I have watched enough football and played at a high standard to recognise when a player is way out of his depth, maybe Hughes will turn him into a class act, time will tell.

7.) 13 Jun 2018 12:19:09
I totally agree he has looked out of his depth, but then again there is an argument that he hasn't had a chance. I seem to remember Mane taking time to settle, so it could change.

8.) 13 Jun 2018 15:03:55
I watched Mane and Gardos make their debuts v Arsenal, Mane had pace to spare and the ability to walk around good players, he always had promise but I agree it does take time to settle but you must have the ability in the first place.

9.) 13 Jun 2018 16:43:09
He did look out of his depth a little, but well run teams don't give up on record signings after 7 appearances.

10.) 13 Jun 2018 20:52:04
Ok, we’ll agree to disagree as gents and move in. Healthy and impassioned debate is always good, most important is our passion for our beloved SFC.

16 Jan 2018 20:13:49
Guido Carillo not in team or subs bench tonight . Can we read anything into this ed?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

25 Dec 2017 07:41:00
To all eds who do a fantastic job, all saints fans and everyone in the world including those bloody skates . have a fantastic xmas and new year.

{Ed001's Note - cheers gps, Merry Christmas to you and all the others who use the site.}

08 Aug 2017 15:18:27
Myself personally i'd get shot to the pool Sakho and money in exchange and be done with it all. fed up with his whingeing and the circus of the media.

16 Jul 2017 20:14:58
Mamadou sakho left out of Liverpool side, if Virgil does go which seems highly likely, wouldn't mind him coming the other way . what say you ed?

{Ed025's Note - sounds good to me mate..

1.) 16 Jul 2017 21:25:19
If Van Dijk stays then Jack Stephens should partner him. I would like us to bring in a quality striker, Iheanacho comes into my mind. Him up front with Manolo will be exciting and loads of goals. I would like to see Hesketh getting more opportunities and Gardos going on loan. I think we have a pretty good balanced squad but a striker short. What does everyone think?

2.) 16 Jul 2017 23:06:50
If we kept the first team as stands then iheanacho would be about all we need if anything. If he came then ship out long too and bring big Sam into the mix.

3.) 17 Jul 2017 13:58:14
We need a goal scorer who stays fit!

4.) 18 Jul 2017 22:01:44
To be perfectly blunt gt we need a goal scorer . It seems impossible to be as bad in front of goal as last season. Anybody more or less within reason would be an improvement on what we have a the moment.

Sorry but injury prone, hasn't really played for a couple of seasons. and just not the Southampton type. Plenty good strikers out there, do Saints want to go that bit extra and pay the fees.

Well obviously we both bow to your superior knowledge, and fancy making you look at the Mirror site how shameless of us . Please forgive us for even being so stupid as to message anything when we have such informed bright and intelligent people as yourself to make our day go with a smile . gary stones 67 knows nothing about football, life or anything I guess.

After watching saturdays game I can understand that. Been following saints for 58 yrs and if the board can't see we are desperate for a striker then i'm crying because relegation battle here we come.
