Southampton want Stefan de Vrij to replace Dejan Lovren but face a fight with Manchester United.

Southampton will battle Deportivo La Coruna for River Plate's £7m-rated striker Teofilo Gutierrez.

Just read that InterMilan would exchange Fredy Guarin for Osvaldo. An attacking Midfielder, saw the video and looks like a more skilful Wanyama, a great player.

Not my choice, we need goals, give Danny a chance to settle in, we've got enough cover in midfield

Zambucco

1.) This is definitely not true, they are trying not to sell Guarín and Chelsea are more than favourites if he does leave. He also plays as a defensive midfielder.
I'm also an Inter fan and I've never known them to be interested in Dani.

2.) Freddy guarin is a great player, but so is osvaldo on his day. Buy guarin and keep osvaldo, play them together we are building a squad to challenge for Europe. What is the point of gaining one player and losing another.
Tonythesaint

3.) I say we swap Ramirez for Guarin

4.) What on earth is a more skilful Wanyama? I thought we already had one of those, his name is Jack Cork

5.) Cork is a totally different player to Wanyama, and Wanyama is the better player

6.) Ramirez! You clearly didn't go to day! It tock Ronaldo 3 years at United before he came good. he ran half the pitch to celebrate with ponch after his assist. he and osvaldo are going staying and I can't wait for them to shut you all up. southampton till I die!

7.) Cork better then wanyama, lol and I suppose Adkins should of stayed!

8.) Wanyama better than Cork? No wonder the English national team is in such a mess. Basic lack of football knowledge in this Country is shocking!

9.) And I suppose u are one of the 'Mogan is one of the best all round midfielders in the premier league' crowd. Just like Tony Pulis! Just looked at the stats. Schneiderlin 17 starts, 1 goal and 0 assists. I'm confused! Maybe an all round midfielder doesn't need to score goals or create chances. I've been wrong all the time. He would be brilliant in an England shirt!

10.) How many games has VW played? 14!
How many won? 6
Includes wins against Palace, Fulham, Sawansea

11.) How many games has VW played? 14
Six wins against West Brom, Fulham, Palace, Sawansea, Hull & Liverpool. The latter being the only decent team.
The only decent team!
He also played in the Sunderland draw at home, Villa defeat at home, defeats to Norwich (Norwich) Arsenal and Chelsea.
Wanyama is missively overrated and we were only riding high in the league early season because City, Chelsea etc hadn't got into their stride.

12.) Wanyama is the main reason why we weren't conceding many at the beginning on the season, if you don't think he's a better player you're pretty delusional, why is cork better? Cause he's English? tell me what he adds to the team that Wanyama doesn't do better. Morgan was one of the best DM's in Europe last season, the stats say so. This season he hasn't been as prolific but that's cause he's been playing a different role when Wanyama is in the team

13.) I'd say we conceded less goals with Wanyama in the team. As previous posts state. We played easier teams earlier in the season and also had a vey settled defence. So you're delusional pal! As for Morgan I didn't say he wasn't a good defensive midfielder, just that it is confusing when people say he is a great all round midfielder. Basic qualities to be regarded as that. Tackling, scoring goals and assists!

14.) Not sure if u were at the Man City game? Jack Cork dominated Yaya Toure like never seen before. Are u saying that Morgan is less effective when he plays with Wanyama? can't recall him ever being prolific in terms of scoring goals or creating chances, even in the championship!

15.) I'm a big fan of Jack Cork, but there is a reason that our defensive record has fallen apart since Wanyama's injury. People get on Wanyama's back for giving the ball away cheaply (which he does do a fair bit admittedly) but he does so much for the team silently. Having him sat solidly in front of the defence, allows the other midfielders to press the ball higher up the pitch and also allows them to attack more freely.

16.) Wanyama looks half decent against the c**p teams, that's it. One dimensional lump who moves the ball really slowly and has the passing ability of a drunken elephant.

17.) Lol clearly, everyone bashing wanyama know nothing about football, MoPo thinks he's better, MoPo's been reluctant to use Cork, what does that tell you about his attitude? NC and Les Reed think he's worth spending 14 million on DESPITE already having Cork, so i'd say that yes, Wanyama is the better player

18.) Are u saying Cork has a bad attitude? Mopo and Reed can never make a mistake? Like u everyone makes mistakes!

19.) You know cork then? you know he's got the best attitude out of everyone at the club, right? MoPo has been here a year now, I think he know's what players are right for the team, and considering he's only been picking cork when he absolutely has to and infact bringing him off to play Davis, who is not a defensive midfielder by the way, in his role, show's that cork is definitely lacking something. I'd rather trust NC, LR and MP over some 'fans' who do nothing but moan at players who aren't English, even when they haven't put a foot wrong. Get your head out of your Ar$e

20.) Come on children. Victor is a good player and so is Jack. Because they can play the same position does that mean they should have exactly the same skills/strengths? No, it doesn't. They are completely different, but then so are Lambert and Osvaldo, Rooney and Van Persie, Bemba Ba and Torres etc, etc. What is all this nonsense about that one has to be "better"? You must have a real problem when you stand at the urinals!

You are probably the same persons who whinge that MP does not have a plan B. You do need different skills within your SQUAD to have variations upon a plan, you know.

It was obvious over the Christmas period we have a small squad compared to some clubs and it costs us as soon as we get injuries etc, yet some of you seem to suggest we only need 11 players in the squad. You need to start recognising we are not in League 1 anymore.

Saint Martin

21.) Both wanyama and cork are good players tbh

22.) I've had conversations with a lot of Saints fans who after a dozen games insist that Wanyama is better than Cork. Fair enough, that's their opinion. But when I point out that Ramirez has done vey little in 18 months or so, they say give the bloke more time! Confusing.

23.) What the majority of you have overlooked with reference to us leaking Goals is Boruc got injured and our defence has had to be shuffled about also through injuries. is it just a coincidence we kept a clean sheet on Saturday with our 1st choice keeper and defence back together for the 1st time in weeks. work it out not rocket science, Cork covered every blade of grass on saturday always at the heart of what we do in breaking play up TWS
Tommo

24.) Oh yes, let's laud a player who cost over £12 million but can't pass a ball 10 yards to a teammate! Nothing to do with him being non english. I'm happy to be in the minority when it comes to opinions about football in this Country. The majirity has done so well in the last 40 years slagging off player, picking and training great players to represent England. If Wanyama was English he would be slated!

25.) Cork is an all round better footballer than Wanyama - end off. Better passer, more creative, moves the ball quicker. The reason we have fallen apart defensively recently is soley because we have missed Boruc.

26.) Wanama is a fanastic player. He's worth much more than Jack Cork. Cork is a good player but Wanyama's work ethic and tackling and breaking up play is brilliant. Clueless if you think Cork is better imo.

27.) I like Cork, I also like Wanyama. But Who's better? Only one way to find out. Check the fifa 14 stats they never lie.

Will you lot calm down over this, just support who ever is on the pitch, both do a great job for the team so what more do you want.

(in a fight then clearly Wanyama would win just to clear that up)

28.) Lol! don't know. Corkies old man was a bit of a hard nut.

29.) I'm willing to concede Wanyama is a real presence for Saints and I'm sure Mopo can turn him into a top class player. Still love Corky though!

30.) Clueless IMO. Bit of a cop out that. After 21 minutes Villa at home have had 21% possession against Arsenal and Villa beat us at St Mary's with Big Vic at the heart of our defensive midfield. Yeh he's an overrated Lump, IMO of course. And Ossie and Gaston have not been anywhere near good enough to justify their purchase prices either. J'rod, great value, Lovren, great value. Then we are left with academy players and guys signed for bugger all like Fonte, Spider and Cork.

31.) Wanyama is just learning his trade, £12m is cheap in today's market and in a few years when he gets his fitness levels right (after all Kenyans are supposed to be good at running) and learns to pass the ball quickly and accurately he'll be great. At the moment he's just good standing there.

32.) I think Morgan misses Wanyama because in all honesty he's been poor without him. I mean it can't be Morgan's fault, can it?

33.) I recon Wanyama would beat a bear in a bare knuckle fight but passing a round bag of wind accurately over 5 yards isn't his strength.

34.) Wanyama and Cork are two completely different types of players. Having seen Wanyama a lot at Celtic last season, he is a complete ball winner who's main role is to break up the play and win the ball. Cork is more of a playmaker with more creativity and passing ability. I actually rate Cork higher than Schneiderlin.

35.) I bet that was boring, watching Celtic in the scots pub league? I watched league 1 and that wasn't great.

36.) Absolutely agree! Would like to see Vic and Corky given a few games together.

Phillipp Wollscheid looked very good when he came on against us at St. Mary's today. Get your cheque book out Ron, and save £10m by not signing Rojo. We need players who want to be here, not forced to be here or offered silly money.

According to some newspapers this morning, Djuricic is complete, a work permit now has to be arranged. Feyenoord understandably want to keep Vilhenna until the summer, so are going for good compensation pricewise £5m - £7m.
Also it has been stated that victor Wanyama is back in training today

I've been watching videos of him and I think he would be a great addition. Reminds me of Eden Hazard, woud give us a true attacking midfielder.

Go on Ron splash the cash!

Zambucco

{Ed002's Note - Southampton, Roma, Everton, Monaco, Schalke, Bayer Leverkusen and Benfica have shown an interest in Braga midfielder Rafa Silva in the summer. West Ham and, again, Schalke have both made recent approaches to Braga with a view to a loan-to-permanent proposal. Interest in a permanent transfer remains from Southampton and Bayer Leverkusen.}

As I'm still to be convinced of Mane's talent, hopefully Salah will have enough Premiership experience and will want to impress like Bertrand, so it could be a very shrewd move.

If we are serious in keeping our rise to the top six, it is a must. Not just for cover, but for diversity and competition.

Why would we sell Lambert, Lallana, Lovren Shaw & Chambers?
This question puzzled us at the time, but now it's all worked out well.
Although on the face of it, not an easy question, he's beibg played to showcase him, to maximise his value. Therefore we have one or two superior? replacements.

It's the price of progress we have to sell to move on, in the process say goodbye to some good friends.

I follow all the rumours and get very excited about certain players being linked with us, and I'm pretty sure that the persistent rumours supported by media are pretty good, Damiao, Banega etc. At no point do I think about are they the right players? are they cover? do we need another CB or DM? What I have faith in is, that Saints with their set up will have all the bases covered, they will know a shed load more than any of us, just exactly what we need and where.
What I'm really waiting for are the 'surprise' signings, the ones that nobody knew about, remember we have a huge scouting team in East Africa now, plus the far East. It may end up with just the 2 signings this window, but then we top up in January.
My last thought is, we will sign Damiao and Banega
