Any truth in tavernier rumours ed? And thoughts on his ability. I admit I know nothing about him.

{Ed002's Note - I don’t know but there was interest from Brighton and I think he signed a new deal.}

1.) 27 Jan 2019 16:57:32
Apparently we'll be going back to Brum with an improved bud for Che Evans and if Tavernier is available for around £8m may be worth a look. Club Captain at Rangers, Gerrard is a fan. He's a good attacking full back so his fitness levels are good. He scores and gets assists too, albeit at a Championship-esque level. Not sure about it though. He's 27 so doesn't seem in the right frame of our current policy. Also, he's Captain there and he'd have to fight to get in the team here. Not saying he can't do it but.

2.) 27 Jan 2019 17:00:36
Sorry - Che Adams. No idea why I had the surname Evans in my head. Long day.

3.) 27 Jan 2019 18:14:48
Doesnt feel like the kind of singing I’d be expecting us to make - also being on decent form for a top three Scottish club doesn’t say much for starting in the PL. A no for me, especially for that much.

4.) 28 Jan 2019 09:24:18
Che Adams would be a great signing - He's been in great form for Brum for the past few seasons and would be the type of player i'd like to see us 'pluck' from the Championship - He has a bright future! Hearing that some of the so called larger teams are also looking at hi, so get him infront of Dave to convince him that we should be his destination of choice ;-)

5.) 28 Jan 2019 12:57:15
Got a friend who’s a Birmingham fan and has said he’d be gutted if we took him, especially for the approximate £8m fee. Similar career path to Redmond before we got him, albeit without any PL experience, but hopefully he could become a quality addition. #trustinralph.

11 Jan 2019 18:00:17
Evening ed. We know of the players that RH is looking to move on. do you know of any genuine interest in hoedt, forster and/ or Cedric? . surely there's a club daft enough to sign them! Haha.

Also to any of the other posters or eds how is brutal getting on and is likely to be integrated next season or shifted?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any interest in the players and there is an added issue with Forster where some clubs are not keen to work with his representation.}

1.) 12 Jan 2019 09:02:56
Cheers. Unsurprisingly really. Also meant *boufal! Not brutal 🙄.

2.) 14 Jan 2019 10:44:36
Forster off to leeds.

03 Oct 2018 20:55:14
Eds any insight into what is going on at our club? Positives (If any) and negatives. Your opinion would be appreciated too. Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - It was never going to be anything but a tough season. Awful as it sounds, staying up will be a win-win situation for the club. I have not spoken to anyone for a while but it strikes me there seems to be a lack of a sustainable plan right now.}

13 Jul 2018 14:30:34
Some impressive signings so far. let's hope we can get rid of some of the dead wood and that we still have on our books (boufal anyone? )

Looks like we will miss out on shaquiri as he's going to Liverpool (strange signing for them)

I still think we need some real creativity (No.10 or tricky right winger) and a proper striker.

Ed have you any new info on these positions other than what you've already posted? Also is there any update on Marlon Santos? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Nothing new.}

1.) 13 Jul 2018 15:50:09
No worries. Cheers.

2.) 13 Jul 2018 15:57:43
Liverpool probably only trying to buy him because they don't want us to get him.

3.) 13 Jul 2018 16:16:53
Very impressive so far have to say! But we'd still need another CB (Santos? ), a proven striker (Ings? ) and a creative no 10). If we could fill those, it has to be the best transfer window ever!

And still need to sell/ loan out Boufal, Forster, at least one CB (Yoshida/ Stephens? ) and one striker (Long? )

4.) 13 Jul 2018 17:39:12
@teejaysaint they're just cutting out the middleman.

5.) 13 Jul 2018 18:15:56
@ SaintySaintSaint He'll only be warming their bench if he goes there anyway.

6.) 14 Jul 2018 10:17:53
Jarkko, don't really get the logic of us signing another CB only to then loan out Stephens or Yosh?

Agree we still need someone who can unlock a defence, either as a 10 or a winger.

7.) 14 Jul 2018 19:09:49
Look at Ed002's message from 4th July. He clearly said that 2 CBs are on the radar. And to me thats! ogical. We used to have strong stopper pair, Fonte/ Alderweireld then Fonte/ VVD. We didn't replace Fonte or VVD until Vestergaard signed. To me, Hoedt is at the moment far away from PL standard as is Bednarek and Stephens. Yoshida decent backup, but not a regular starter. So, I pretty much share the opinion that two strong CBs this summer is needed. Then we need to offload some CB quantity.

26 Jun 2018 23:01:18
Happy with Armstrong. Should be a good replacement for Davis who I think probably only has one more season with us. Elyounoussi would be a very good signing. I'd be happy to take lookman from Everton too. As for ings, a loan yes. To buy? No.

Those would take care of the midfield/ attack for me. But we desperately need a top drawer cb.

1.) 27 Jun 2018 10:43:44
I agree, I hope for us to sign Elyounoussi, Jullien and a backup right back (I hope Valery), perhaps another forward and then sell Clasie, Tadic and Boufal.

I cannot see Lookman being likely given Leipzig's interest, although I trust the board and our youth; Gallagher and Sims could have good seasons.

2.) 27 Jun 2018 22:24:51
Lookman would be quality. As much as I think Sims has earnt a chance, Lookman is a better prospect. Ings could be well worth the risk as well, provided the price tag is reasonable.

Hassenhuttl has said our business is not done yet and they are looking at options. This probably means one of maehle or the Norwegian lad with the morrocan name (I'm not spelling it lol) and probably che Adams which would allow Austin to leave if someone bids for him.

1.) 31 Jan 2019 14:57:14
I know we’re normally quiet about all transfers let alone deadline day deals but I would have expected something by mid afternoon, even murmurings of a player at the training ground or something of the like. Can’t see anything happening at this point but I’m not overly concerned by relegation at this point either way.

19 Jan 2019 17:25:25
"We've wasted all our money on crap like Redmond. Jwp isn't good enough. We should spend more money. All the other teams are outstanding us. We're going to be relegated"

Amazing what a PROPER manager can do with GOOD players. Amazing what PROMISING players can do with PROPER coaching. If we can keep Ralph for a whole season (hopefully longer) then I think some of the players in the squad will progress so well. Hojbjerg, Redmond, jwp, bednarek, valery, targett etc could become VERY good players in the head future.

Up the saints.

1.) 19 Jan 2019 17:38:23
I was thinking today how Redmond has changed since Ralph has taken over. I even recalled how Puel said how good he could be. Now he will never be like Henry, but he is taking to this formation and system really well. JWP has surprised me over the last couple of weeks too. More energy and getting in the shots too. Other standouts were Stevens and Bednarek. Surely pants again at the end but feeling confident for season end.

2.) 19 Jan 2019 17:40:24
A great result, the way we are playing on the front foot, putting other teams under pressure, hitting the woodwork and deserving the victory, a bit of luck with the Digne own goal but caused by the pressure he was under. We look like a team transformed!
RH should have his contract extended now, talent like his will already be on bigger clubs radar. It looks like 2 of the relegation places may be decided with Huddersfield and Fulham now we just need to keep playing in the same way steadily moving up the table. I am really impressed how many of the players are beginning to fulfill their potential so 2019 is looking a lot brighter. coyr.

3.) 19 Jan 2019 23:50:40
Liverpool fan in peace.
Really like your new Manager. Best you've had for a long time.
Good luck for rest of the season.

4.) 20 Jan 2019 09:01:14
Appreciate the post Liver_La definitely our best since Keoman.
Hands off tho if you guys sack Klopp lol.

27 Aug 2018 11:00:16
I don't like to criticise players too much. I think our younger players (targett, jwp etc) will come good, but will they get their chance with us?
However, despite being a huge fan of Cedric when he first joined, I think he is continually letting us down defensively and it's time to shift him on. Let's start giving Harry reed a go. I'd really like to see him given a chance in the league cup.
Poor dive from hojbjerg but he's a player that clearly cares and wants to win.
I think we did some good business in the summer. But I don't know know if the players we've actually bought are solving our problems. we've signed players that we seem unable to incorporate in to the side. Hughes doesn't even know what formation to play, let alone his best 11. I still think we are VERY weak defensively and we still lack a focal point/ target man in attack. Gallagher MIGHT be able to play that role. But it's a lot to ask of him and we don't know if he's cut out to do it at this level, or if he'll even be given the chance to do so. Hoedt looks very very poor. Stephens isn't good enough for this standard. Yoshida will try and has heart and a bit of pace to cover vestergaard, but he always has a costly mistake in him. I think Bertrand needs to go next to vestergaard with Matty targett at left back.

07 Aug 2018 15:22:55
Dream scenario?
Fraser forster to Chelsea to replace courtois (I literally meant DREAM scenario because I couldn't see it happening)
Another striker (anyone bar Danny ings from the vast amount of names we've been linked with)
And another cb with Stephens going on loan
I think our business is done.

1.) 07 Aug 2018 17:31:08
I think you might be right Milky. Apparently a couple of Turkish sides are looking at Forster. We really need either an experienced top notch CB to hold our defence together or someone who can score a hatful of goals so that we score more than we concede. Preferably both.

2.) 07 Aug 2018 17:59:48
Presumably, MH thinks Vestergaard is that top CB that will hold our defence together.

3.) 07 Aug 2018 19:51:07
Well I hope MH knows more than me but I don't think that he's the finished article by a long way.

4.) 07 Aug 2018 20:18:46
I think, as anticipated, we have seen the club trying hard to revert to the old model of buying talented young players to develop in our squad and sell on for a profit in a couple of seasons time. If we're lucky one or more of those players will develop quickly and have a very good season for us to help settle some of our anxiety.

The problem I see is that in the past, we have had a solid, experienced squad, comfortable playing in a certain way and capable of winning games to support the younger players coming in. We don't have the stability that was once there. Bear with me as a I rattle through this, but McCarthy has less than a season at number 1, Hoedt has one season as a starter, Stephens one season as an irregular starter, JV is making his debut, JB doesn't have a full season yet, Lemina has one patchy season, Hojberg has about one season under his belt, Armstrong is making his debut, Mo is making his debut and Gabbi has about one season under his belt given his lack of appearances last term. Our experience comes from Cedric, RB and CA. In our times of success, the balance has clearly been the other way round with experienced, settled players outnumbering those with potential.

We therefore must hope MH not only knows more about the players than us, but that he is coaching them well enough that the team plays as a collective, at least equal to the sum of its parts nd with enough consistency to avoid putting undue pressure on them.

31 Jul 2018 12:11:56
I really hope we don't let Matty targett go. I think he will be a decent player for us, local lad, And the natural successor to Bertrand. at most, loan him to Fulham for the season so he gets first team premier league experience. Bertrand isn't getting any younger. I don't see the point in selling the next player in line and then having to spend double. on replacing Bertrand when he goes/ retires.

1.) 31 Jul 2018 16:32:55
Saints have set the price and I think Fulham will pay it we have to make some profit this window we always do.

2.) 31 Jul 2018 16:43:01
To start talking about Bertrand retiring is a bit much - no chance Targett would stick around that long. I think the point is if we think Bertrand will be off next summer if not this, then why not let him go now while we have a replacement waiting in the wings.

3.) 31 Jul 2018 19:18:33
Perhaps Mcqueen offers more going forwar if we are playing a back 5 if needed.

4.) 31 Jul 2018 21:41:46
Matt Targett is the future, I know that Ryan Bertrand is better just at the minute, but he wasn't that good last year. He has various business interests and not sure that he is 100% focused.
Totally agree with Milky Saint and think we might be better selling Bertrand if we can get a decent offer and make Targett the main man.

Sam McQueen is also a cracking player, personally I think he should push up in front of either Bertrand if he stays or Targett as a Winger, he has a strong cross and is physically strong. Nathan Redmond, is a one trick pony, frustrates the proverbial out of you a lot of the time. He has pace, goes past three or four players. has maybe one man to go at and either checks. or fails to go inside towards goal, just don't get it!

Just hope if he stays Hughes sorts him out, if he can't, let him go. Pete.

Can't see carrillo coming back. Would be surprised. Agree with your post jay. Cedric was great at first but we'll under par the last 2 years. He was a good signing but if he leaves for 12 mill with 18 months on his contract I think that is a good deal for all concerned. With him going maybe we will make an offer for another rb cable of playing cb. or a cb capable of playing rb! One of the two lol.

Also, I've drawn a lot of my opinion from the info off ED too. certainly not trying to steal his thunder haha.
Just my opinion at the end of the day based on reports, the fans forum last week and the info that the eds offer up.

Posh you mention ings being injury prone, which is true, but Rossi makes ings look solid! he's worse than Darren anderton! Lol

Rojo for me is no better than Bertrand as a centre half or wing back, so I don't see the point in adding him.

Victor Moses isn't a terrible shout. But he's barely played this season and his wages are ridiculous, so unless Chelsea were willing to still pay a chunk I couldn't see it happening.

From reports I've read, heard, and from the recent fan forum, it seems to me that we are unlikely to sign anyone this window. That may change if an offer comes In for Cedric and we let him go.
I think the squad we have, with this manager, is capable of pulling clear of relegation. Yoshida will be back by February, and it seems RH trusts him enough along with Stephens, vestergaard and bednerak to make up the centre of our defence. I reckon once Bertrand is back he too may be used in the back 3 allowing targett to stay at lwb. Cedric can cover on the left and at rwb, it seems valery and even kayne Ramsey are now ahead of him in the pecking order.

He also seems to like ings and long up front, with Austin as back up and hopefully obafemi returning too. the midfield looks good to me.

As ed said, I think RH and the club will wait until we are safe from relegation before adding any players. Our squad is massive. We have so many players out on loan and a lot of players who are at male or break in their career. Ie. 22-23 years old but not given enough opportunity to break through.

Even come the summer I don't think we will make too many signings that early as RH will want to properly assess reed, Gallagher, sims, health etc. plus see whether boufal, carrillo are up to scratch or not.

We need to sell first. Not just because of money, but because our squad and therefore wage bill are too big.

He will likely leave by the end of next season. by which point we should be rejuvenated and be able to replace him with similar. not the boring dross of a puel or Pellegrino.

It's no good having good players with no direction. Not in the modern game. Also having good players with just "passion" will work for a while but eventually come undone tactically. RH has given them the passion and fight and got the new manager bounce, but he's also sorted us out in terms of fitness, work rate, organisation defensively and a plan when attacking. All of which means it can actually LAST!

No worries. The rest of your insights, info and articles more than makes up for it. It is Monday so I'm sure you're allowed one minor slip.

Funny. but not accurate. the United kit swap incident was when we beat them 3-1 the previous season. We smashed them 6-3 the following and they had no excuse, other than roy Keane being sent off.

Good review rich. I guess that's the thing now with playing at home, especially against teams like Cardiff and palace. They know we play decent football but lack a bit of the killer instinct to unlock and break them down. So they defend deep, compact and probably know they will get a chance against our defence late on or from set pieces.
Agreed that Fulham is now must must must win. Their defence is worse than ours so no excuses. Maybe go to 4-2-2-2 and really take the game to them?

I think the comments about unbelievable stupidity are totally fair and probably needed. After Burnley and now Cardiff they are needed, the team, the defence, need a MAJOR kick up the arse. Teams who concede as many late goals as we concede get relegated.

The comments about "not wanting to play my team, we're on fire" those are the stupid comments that shouldn't be made. All Warnock had to do in his team talk was show his players that, and tell them to do it for sala. Job done.

Maybe, we can take some points off of teams that we're not expected to beat. can we go to arsenal and get something,? . the problem is we really needed to be taking points off of those around us. Palace was ok, Burnley disappointing, but today is straight up worrying. Conceding two weeks running in the last minute against teams we needed to beat.

There's no point in moaning about us not spending. Who was available that would have improved us? Clubs didn't want to sell. Nothing you can do. All we can do now is pull the finger out, not make the same mistakes again, the crowd has to step up too. The stadium did against arsenal and were probably a big part of us getting the win. Against palace atmosphere was crap. I don't know what it was like today I wasn't there. But was it bouncing? I doubt it.

We are in a massive battle, and an uphill struggle from now on, when we should have had a 4 or 5 point cushion and some breathing space.

Knew we would concede as soon as they sent crouch on. That 3 points would have been massive, Cardiff now a 100% must win. No excuses. Seems we played well, rode our luck a little but gradually dropped further back as we tried to hang on. Again, a point better than nothing. But disappointing to be so close to such a big result.
