Thought Sigurdsson was our number 1 target? We haven't even had a rumour of us going for him yet, 25 million is a steal for a player of his talent nowadays!

I agree, one of the best-attacking mids in the prem, could probably get into most teams inside of the top 6. If it wasn't for him Swansea probably would have been relegated this season.

2.) 17 Jun 2017 12:16:29
As previously stated he was koemans number one transfer target but club saw redmond as long term cheaper option, hence not sticking around and bought before puel became manager.

Gabbiadini is happening then, not going to lie I'm quite excited to see him play.

1.) 30 Jan 2017 19:18:33
Yeah, same here. I think even those who are uncertain about him are quite pleased saints have bought another striker at last

2.) 30 Jan 2017 21:10:02
But he's not a striker iirc most he's scored is 7 in a season

3.) 30 Jan 2017 21:10:39
Would rather berahino

4.) 30 Jan 2017 22:22:32
He has scored 5 goals in 19 appearances. Or 5 goals in 691. Which works out roughly a goal every game and half.

5.) 31 Jan 2017 18:25:58
He has actually netted 15 in a season before

25 Jan 2017 16:43:33
More and more talk about Gabbiadini and the odds going under evens for him to come to Saints, reckon it's going to happen eds?

If we sell Gabbiadini I'm literally done with this club, our most talented striker who just needs the right service which he isn't getting, he is so underappreciated.

Byrno24

1.) 16 Jan 2018 13:15:13
If I hear one more person say they're about to be done with this club then I'm done with this club

On a serious note I do agree, Gabbi is our best striker but needs players around him who can provide the right kind of service. His movement is outstanding, and I honestly believe if you put him in the current City or Liverpool team he'd score 20+.

2.) 16 Jan 2018 13:21:27
do you honestly think he wants to be here. I cannot believe if he is putting it in, in training the manager thinks someone on a 30 odd game goal less streak was a better option. I don't think he wants to be in England and he is only in the squad as we literally have nobody else. I have said before although I have no proof he wants a move back to Italy his family have not travelled to England this may be wrong but it may explain his performances. Has he even had a shot on target recently?

3.) 16 Jan 2018 13:49:59
I agree 0001 he looks down and completely uninterested to be fair I think we should just let him go home.

4.) 16 Jan 2018 14:22:59
Gabbiadini is not a striker! He is a right sided inside forward who likes to drift into space from the right flank. He had a wonderful goal scoring spell for us last season but he is not an out and out striker and so struggles to play there. However, Saints only have one out and out striker so Gabbi has been deployed there and frankly struggled. He needs to be on the right of a three man attack. Good luck naming the other two worthy of playing alongside him from our squad as it stands (acknowledging Austin's injury) .

5.) 16 Jan 2018 15:25:12
It shows the standard we have up front if you really think Gabbiadini is our best striker! He has never had and continues to never have a good scoring record.
Get a grip People he isn’t good enough. Had a brief purple patch when he joined us but now offers nothing.
Long doesn’t score but as least he drags defenders away to give others opportunities plus he chases everything down. Austin is our best striker and at least takes his chances. We need though fresh blood in that position. A nateural goal poacher and they are few and far between. We do create enough chances but don’t take them with Gabbiadini and long. I’d be quite happy if Gabbiadini left tomorrow.

6.) 16 Jan 2018 16:07:18
Cheers Theo!

7.) 16 Jan 2018 18:03:44
I think Long has shown recently that he is so much more than a striker and would love to see Gabbi playing with him in and around the box; long is excellent at picking out the pass. As Figo says, who else mmmmmmmmmmmm Simms Long Gabbi,

8.) 16 Jan 2018 18:30:22
Gabbi is a striker and a goal poacher. Actually watch him; the guy's movement is outstanding and he is constantly making runs in behind. That's what you look for in a front man. There's simply no service to him this season, and I agree, the runs have stopped and he isn't buzzing quite like he was when he first joined. I can understand this; it's a difficult thing to keep making those runs when you just know the ball won't come.

Gabbi isn't the best striker for us right now given our inability to play the type of football he thrives on. Still, he is the one with the potential and I really couldn't disagree more with whoever it was saying the guy isn't a striker. Watch him, he's a natural poacher and should be playing on the last defender.

9.) 16 Jan 2018 20:20:59
Gabbi’s a forward, so he has the ability to make intelligent attacking runs not simply in terms of when to go but where, I totally accept that and I do not think there is another player in our side who is as capable of doing it as well as him. He’s our best attacking player when utilised correctly but I still assert that he’s not a striker. He’s unselfish and likes to roam and find space for himself. He likes to drop deep and collect the ball and feed in other people. He likes to run at opponents and use his pace and skill to beat them. He can cross and shoot and play through balls.

So in my opinion, his skill set is too broad for a striker. Charlie Austin is a striker. He likes to stick to certain parts of the pitch where he is most effective and will, for the most part, look to run and work the ball to ensure he stays where he knows he’s most effective. He is a finisher. A goalscorer first and foremost. Gabbiadini is not that. To call him a striker is too reductive of his many qualities. In that regard, I think we’re entirely on the same page and it would be an awful shame to see him go. In my view, provided he is happy here, we should’ve tried to build our attacking line around his qualities as there is no-one else quite like him.

10.) 17 Jan 2018 06:50:13
I see what you’re saying but disagree about him running at people. He doesn’t really do that and he isn’t that fast. I see him more as the Suarez type, he can beat a man sure but he’s a striker who does this by dropping the shoulder and shooting rather than skill and dribbling. Anyways we’re each entitled to our opinion, point is let’s keep him around!

11.) 17 Jan 2018 09:18:46
Gabbi is very quick .! reality is he has so few balls to chase!
it is simply down to his lack of service. He needs a Long type player that will read his runs and most importantly play the ball into the right area.
I enjoyed watching the way we played first half against Watford. They
gave us way too much respect and space and we exploited it.
But when they changed their formation/ team . we didn't change a single thing. In fact we tried to play the same open football high up the pitch that we were leaving ourselves exposed!

12.) 17 Jan 2018 22:26:44
Completely agree that we and Gabbi need that player to run the game and spot runs from Gabbi, Redmond, Boufal, Cedric, Bertrand etc. but I don't really see Long as that player at all.

07 Jan 2018 18:51:10
After seeing Walcott's performance today if they still want 30 mil for him they can keep him I'd rather go for Alassane Plea from Nice, younger and looks like more of a threat than Walcott and he'd be half the price.

Byrno24

1.) 07 Jan 2018 21:24:54
Agree, £30 mill is an absolute rip off for a striker who has been out of form for the last two season. Considering there are better and cheaper strikers out there Walcott can stay where he is. n Not that I don't like the idea of Walcott coming, but I just think that he is overpriced at £30 mill. Any more on the Guido Carrillo transfer eds?

2.) 08 Jan 2018 07:35:39
Traore from borough or Barnes or flea from Yeovil both scoring and in loan from a premier team not scoring? 😂.

10 Aug 2017 17:17:47
I just want saints to go all out and buy Sigurdsson, I know I'm dreaming but he would be incredible behind Gabbiadini and with Redmond/ JWP and Boufal on the wing!

Byrno24

1.) 11 Aug 2017 08:22:14
If we're going to splash 40-50m on a player, I really don't want it to be someone 27/ 28 years old. We can't afford to throw that money around for a player with max. 4 years left in him and no resell value.

Sigurdsson made sense when people were talking about 20-30m, but not any more.

07 Jul 2017 23:57:19
Just seen some clips of that Yann Karamoh, looks like an incredible talent, him and Boufal on the wings with Gabbiadini could be a lethal attack.

Any news on the player Eds?

Someone has changed his Wikipedia page to show current club as Southampton. Lol
Hopefully it's an insider jumping the gun! Haha.

10 May 2017 22:26:54
If Puel isn't sacked this summer I have serious questions about the clubs hunger to actually progress and not become a boring mid table team that's happy with 10th, all
These years of progressing and positive attacking football have all been ruined by probably the worst manager I've seen at St. Marys hope the clueless idiot goes back to France where he belongs.

Byrno24

1.) 11 May 2017 12:22:44
Worst manager at st Mary's? Lol you clearly have only supported the club since it was bought out of liquidation.
The man gets us to a cup final and mid table security with 3rd and 4th choice centre backs and our top striker out for 5 months and he's the worst you've seen? Hahaha
Bed wetter.

2.) 12 May 2017 12:02:42
Sturrock and the Dutch Ant and Dec spring to mind.

3.) 12 May 2017 13:50:26
Dont forget the dead years under Ian Branfoot.

4.) 12 May 2017 14:21:27
That was the Dell though Deutsche, so doesn't count!

5.) 12 May 2017 17:24:57
Paul sturrock won five out of thirteen, think koeman bettered that with the fantastic run in we had I certainly wouldn't say sturrock was a bad manager.

We conceded 3 awful goals that could of been dealt with better Chelsea's 4th goal was great play but the other 3 were just messy and poorly defended.
