Eds, any truth to the paper talk that we've agreed a fee with Nice for their young LB 'Kolo'?

Aussie Saint

{Ed002's Note - Nice's Kolodziejczak is a player that St Etienne has shown an interest in but they do not agree with the price being asked. His representatives have spoken with various clubs in England where they feel they can get a better price but I am not aware of any agreement for a fee with Southampton at this time.}

1.) Hi would he be a replacement for shaw or cover? As we intend to keep shaw ED 002

{Ed002's Note - If Southampton has an interest in him then it would be to replace Shaw.}

2.) Could caulker be a possibility? ED 002

{Ed002's Note - It is a loaded question - anyone can be a possibility, Caulker, you, me.}

3.) Hi ED 002 is it true that we are leading the race for kasper? Also It looked like Adam May be off is it likely he will be?

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea, sorry.}

4.) Was the enquiry for Ings positive? ED 002 thanks

{Ed002's Note - I wouldn't hold your breath.}

5.) Oh ok do you reckon we're put a bid in for him? Or has our interest died down? Anymore on kasper? ED 002

{Ed002's Note - Leicester are to offer him a new deal.}

6.) Ok thanks do u think he will accept or look for a move? ED 002

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea, sorry.}

7.) Hi will veho be our sponsors? And have Liverpool bid for Ada? Ed 002

{Ed002's Note - I don't know about Beho or what an Ada is.}

8.) Sorry have Liverpool bid for Adam? Ed 002

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed at this time. Lallana would attract interest from a number of clubs including Liverpool, Spurs, Manchester United and Chelsea if available but Southampton have no intention of selling him unless a very attractive offer is made and the player wants to move on.}

9.) Ok thanks do you think he wants to go? Has any bids been made for any of our players? Ed 002

{Ed002's Note - I really cannot answer questions about what players "think" or "wants" to do. Footballers are far from the brightest life form and can be easily distracted by things like bright colours and food. If they have any rational thoughts at all I have no idea of understanding what they are. I am not aware of any bids being made since January.}

10.) Ok thanks any movements in transfers inwards? Should mp be having talks this week? Ed 002

{Ed002's Note - Nothing happened overnight.}

11.) Should poch be having talks next week? Which player is most likely to be leaving? Thanks ED 002

{Ed002's Note - He will be considering his options. I would not be surprised if both Lallana and Shaw leave.}

12.) Hi are cork, fonte and jay rod likely to be having contract talks soon? Also is osvaldo likely to be sold soon? ED 002

{Ed002's Note - I have no knowledge of the timing of contract discussions. The club will sell Osvaldo if they can.}

Saints are looking to sign Brazilian striker Eder from Sampdoria as a replacement for Osvaldo. Could be a good move!

Aussie Saint

1.) I´m sure he´ll be better than Osvaldo. Osvaldo prob just kicked off with Fonte in order to force through loan move to Inter.
Blatant liability, prob will leave his next club after just one season too. To##er!

2.) All this talk osvaldo will be staying fact.
shows the talent he has when teams like inter and others still chase him

3.) The mans a liability wish he was around when razor ruddock was around he would have laughed in his face before he tore his head off and eat him lol

4.) I wish he started on boruc, wanyama or big rick. They wouldn't have taken his s***

5.) I wish he started on captain balbosa and got deserted on that desert island again.

Tonythesaint

6.) Muriel from udinese would be a great buy in my opinion

7.) Osvaldo will be staying. Sure, he made a cock up but I would like to think saints are the better club here & rather than offload bim, choose to stick by him & help him channel thoat aggresion into something useful which is what I suspect we will do. He has another 10 days to sort this out with the teammates if this hasn't been done already. Reports are that he & fonte sorted out not long after anyway & were seen shaking hands & laughing. i'm also disappointed with luke shaw & his comments on twitter. i'm all for team spirit but should he really be posting comments like thT for all to see?

8.) For those of us who are not twitterers what has Luke been saying?

9.) ^ref luke on twitter - not to be taken completely out of context but single or double word comments that could be take neither way in response to peoples questions regarding the incident. In my opinion what occurs on the training pitch should stay there & players shouldn't air their opinions publicly unless the full facts are known by the public. At this point all we have is speculation as to what did or didn't happen in the lead up to the incident. I fully expect the next game he lines up in he will no doubt get the flak from the supporters but become an instant hero with a goal.

So, the rumours are strengthening that Wang Jianlin wants to buy the Saints! This would mean Southampton having the wealthiest backers in the EPL! It makes sense as well. Wang's company owns Sunseeker, one of the Club's sponsors, so would be familiar with the Club. He'd also know Cortese already.

Aussie Saint

1.) It does all seem to fit quite well. If they decide to build a new stadium he can put one of his hotels, cinemas and karaoke bars there too. There is then the opportunity to develop the current st Mary's site via the real estate business which may include some of the waterfront adjacent if that can be negotiated. There are already the sponsorship ties to the club through sunseeker.

Right that's that sorted then. Deal done!

I know nobody ever believes the rumours that start with 'a source from within the club'. So all I'll say is that I have it on good authority from an old friend that the players are of the understanding that MoPo will be staying indefinitely at the helm, and will indicate this in his press conference today. The same can be said of Shaw.

As for the reason behind NC's departure, potential future owners, and the rumoured Lambert sale, I've got no info unfortunately!

Aussie Saint

1.) I hope to Aussie, I hope so.

From 3pm on ssnNews (ssn) Pochettino will be mentioning this whole issue in his press conference.

It really could go either way.

Meanwhile, I'm listing his possible successor as manager:
Immediately:
Hoddle
Adkins (especially as Reading FC are in talks with potential new buyers themselves)

From end of season (as he may wanna prove his brilliance and have a good top 10 league finish and good Cup run on his CV, before leaving!)

Laudrup
Klinsmann
Adkins (will lead Reading to promotion then step back in and finish off the brilliant job he started!)

They'd all work great with our kids, the whole academy system and keep us playing grrrreat football.
Although, if Cortese's gone perhaps so to has "the project"

We'll see. Time will tell.

Heads up Saints fans and players and staff. Good luck.

2.) Am I the only one that thinks that NC leaving may be connected to him being involved in actually buying the club? I'm thinking that as lawyers were involved, there must be sensitive situation there, and this could point toward a 'conflict of interests' hence he leaves before potentially returning under new ownership?

3.) I'd like to think courtese could hook up with the new owners if she wanted to sell
I've heard the Chinese sunseeker connection but you never know with saints
January to a saints fan is always bad news

4.) MP and the players will stay loyal, we are not in 'meltdown' 'crisis torn' or otherwise.
As stated before, NC contract was only interim following his last meeting with Katharina, he was unhappy that it had not been settled. Coupled with what he saw as interference, from her. So I've heard a couple of reasonable explanations
1. He was told to accept the big money for Shaw, and fought it.
2. He is actually head of the consortium, that was rumoured to be buying us back in the summer. He will return as an owner, not just an "Employee" a title he apparently did not like.

Whatever happens the club will be here, we will have a great stadium to go and watch the team we love, no matter what COYR!

5.) Get Adkins back?! Really? As shown with Reading this season, he's an average manager who makes silly decisions on buying players.

The fact that MoPo is still here is a good sign, he's stated before that if NC went he would to and with NC telling him to stay in charge it shows he has some kind of plan to come back

6.) As has been said above, I am of the opinion that Cortese may be working with potential buyers. Katharina is rumoured to want out and did not like the fact that he had so much responsibility/influence over what is essentially her investment now.

Can we really see Cortese starting a new project elsewhere? Our club has an infrastructure that supports what he was trying to do. This was partially in place befoe his arrival which made the club desireable to Liebherr in the first place and there won't be many clubs out there for sale in a similar position. I can't imagine a man like Cortese could walk away from something like this unfinished. He will want more freedom to implement his plan which could happen under new owners. All purely speculation of course and let's not forget what the Liebherr family have done for our club.

7.) For now, people need to remain calm. The reporting of the Cortese situation has just led to speculation on everything from a fire sale of players, to sale of club and manager walking out.

Seriously, the news coverage has been sensationalistic journalism at it's worst.

So what do we know? Cortese stated previously that should the Liebher family not share the vision held by Marcus and Nicola, he had alternative investors prepared to step in - In my opinion this may no longer be the case, since I would imagine that this would be handled quietly in-house.
Pochettino previously stated that he did not envisage staying at Saints should Cortese leave - This leads us to believe that he will be leaving, however he is on the training field this morning.

Pochettino may still walk. Cortese may be back. Players might leave - although it would be very rare for a player to leave following a Chief Exec.

There is a Presser today at 3. 00, which I believe should be available live youtube. Perhaps we all ought to watch it, and reserve judgement until then.

8.) Just to calm down a bit - here are some snippets from the latest sports news on the BBC.

"Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino is expected to hold talks with owner and new chairman Katharina Liebherr before his weekly press conference at 3pm today.
"Miss Liebherr is keen to provide assurances to the manager and attempt to restore calm at St Mary's. "

and

"Mauricio Pochettino has no plans to plunge Southampton into further turmoil by following former chairman Nicola Cortese out of the club in the short term. His long-term future remains in doubt, however.
"The players have expressed their surprise and disappointment at Cortese's departure but while Pochettino remains they do not plan to spark an exodus from the club. "

I do realise, especially amongst football supporters, to think the worst and be all doom and gloom but let's see what happens - sometimes it is for the best, not always I know, given Saints long history it's usually s**t but you never now, you never know.

The trouble is it's always the fans who get the sticky end - everyone else will come out of this okay, no matter what.

9.) I'm sorry, Nigel did wonderful, wonderful things with our club but getting him back would be a backwards step. Love it or hate it, it's the brutal truth.

10.) Totally agree with Adkins post above getting N. A back would be a backwards step he did a great job but think some fans have just got to let the whole Adkins scenario go!

Given all the chat from various parts of the Club about targeting Europe and beyond, and given the obvious weaknesses that have been shown in the squad of late (no depth at CB, and a lack of creativity up front meaning we carve out very few clear cut chances), am I the only one who will be confused if not disappointed if the Club doesn't sign anyone in this window?

With the squad we have now, we will stay 9th. However, with even one quality signing I could see us push up above Newcastle at least, and maybe even into 6th or 7th. Tht would be a massive boost in terms of keeping our star youngsters and attracting new talent.

Aussie Saint

1.) IF we can keep the usual first 11 fit once Wanyama is back, especially Boruc Fonte Lovren, Shaw and Wanyama then I can see us being top 8. We've got a strong enough first team to do that and with Ramirez hitting some form and Osvaldo looking like he was close before his suspension, there's no reason why we can't do that.

We're only going to buy a CB if someone of Lovren's quality or better, like Astori, become available and at a good price, otherwise it'll wait until the summer. Hooiveld and Yoshida, Yoshida especially, are good enough for cover in this league (we're not a massive team and we're not in a Euro cup as of yet, there's no way we're going to have 4 Lovren's in the team at the moment), there's no reason to panic buy a CB when they're around, if they were injured too, then we'd probably need to buy, as is stands we have 4 CB's who are good enough for this league. Stephens and Turnbull will be stepping up at the end of the season, so who knows, we may not buy another CB for a long time.

2.) I'm not sure if Hoiveld and Yoshida are good enough cover but understand your point about Turnball and Stephens, but I'd rather see them play now as they would at least learn from their mistakes and become better players because of it which, Hoiveld and Yoshida don't seem to do, same point with using Matt Taggart instead of Fox and either Isgrove/Rowe/Sinclair in for Guly on the bench

3.) If you think Yosh and Hooiveld are good enough for Premiership then there must be others of the same name elsewhere because ours are c*** and championship level at best.

4.) I think we have a reasonably strong starting XI but outside of our Defensive Midfielders we are lacking in the sqaud depth to be challenging for a european place. We need to be bringing in players either from other clubs or the academy who will challenge our current first XI for a starting place rather than just bringing them in for cover. That way everyone will have an incentive to challenge for their place in the team.

5.) They are good enough for cover though, you're judging them by Lovren and every other STARTING CB in the leagues standards, we aren't going to have players that good sat on the bench, not until we're in Europe atleast, you need to realise that and outside of the top 6/7 we probably do have the best back up for CB's, which, is EXACTLY where we are right now.

6.) Weve not lost a league game with Guly in the squad, let's leave him in for the time being ;)

7.) Outside the top 6 /7 we have the best back up cb's in the league? What have you been smoking? Jos is no where near good enough for a 4th choice cb in the prem, Yoshida is weak as well, but may just be good enough for 4th choice, for the time being. That fact is that Lovren and Fonte, should be being pushed for their starting spots in the team. It's clear the backroom staff don't believe Turnbull or Stephens are ready to make the step up, same with Targett by the sounds of it. So we need to buy, because frankly if Lovren gets injured we are screwed.

8.) The only problem I have with Hooiveld or Maya in the team is we look beatable. With our first eleven, defensively at least, we look very, very strong, and we are only every going to let two goals in at the most and against a very strong team. With our 'back ups' we could let in five or four against teams around us. It looked like Hooiveld scored his own goal against Spurs on purpose. He just looked inept, I know he's a great bloke and did us proud in the Championship but personally I don't see him as cover in our team I see him as a liability and to be fair Kevin and Gazza aren't really up to the Premiership either. Both are Draculas - terrified of crosses - and look Championship standard. Once more if you're the opposition the first thing you must think is 'We're going to get a goal or two today'. It's not about having backups that are as good as those they replace but for goodness sake you have to be confident that they will do a good job.

I'm not.

9.) I disagree, we wouldn´t finish above 8th this season even if we signed 4 top players. Wait till Jan for signings, that´s what I´d do. I think we´re good up front, Lallana, Lambert, Rodriguez, Osvaldo, Ramirez. Sure we can sign an attacking player in the summer, but no rush, let's give Ossie and Gaston plenty of playing time for now, as the rest of this season is pretty meaningless (we´re going to finish 8th or 9th clearly), experiment with what we´ve got, give what we´ve got a chance to show what they can do.
We clearly need a cb in the summer too, but for reason stated above, no need to sign one yet

I have to say, I am extremely excited at the prospect of Murat Yakin. What better way to convince those players to stay that want to play UCL than to appoint a manager who has actually coached in the UCL! Not to mention, Yakin has actually won something unlike Pochettino.

I don't want to get into 'Pochettino bashing' like many are on other forums. All I will say is that he is not as big a loss as some might think. His strength was his tactical 'Plan A' (when it worked) and his man management. Nonetheless, Adkins was a great man manager, and his sacking didn't result in an exodus of players.

Sign someone of the calibre of Murat Yakin (or even Ronald Koeman or Michael Laudrup as the betting agencies are suggesting) and Saints fans will have a lot to be excited about!

I know this isn't a rumour Eds, but would appreciate if you could post it - we could all do with a bit of positivity after the last couple of weeks we've had!

Aussie Saint

1.) Get excited about lennon or mackay

Can we re-name this forum 'Twenty Questions, with Stevo98'?

Haha, but seriously. calm down mate. Not sure what the eds' connections are (I'm guessing agent connections if anything ;)), but they're not fortune tellers, nor are they mind-readers!

Adam Lallana, when asked on the awards night what Southampton means to him, said:

"It means the world to me, this club. I've been here since I was twelve. I'll always love the club, and I just want to keep progressing with the club. I just hope we can make strides forward in the summer and just keep going from step to stop and doing well. "

Sound like someone who wants to leave? I THINK NOT!

Aussie Saint

1.) At the end of the day these players want to achieve what they know they can and that's European football. When you look at the more experienced players in the squad, Lallana, Schneiderlin, Lovren, Cork, etc. they are ready for that stage. So that's why it's vitally important the club have a great summer and bring in further reinforcements otherwise you'd expect by the end of next season many of them will rethink their position at the club.

I know most people won't like it, but I'm going to play devil's advocate regarding the potential for Luke Shaw getting sold. Let me caveat the following by saying I still don't think he will get sold, this summer at least.

Whilst I'd prefer we kept him, there is a fair bit of upside to him being sold. The reality is, Shaw's value is being inflated by the (largely inaccurate) comparisons being made with Gareth Bale, and the hope from the British media that he will become the next British export to rake in a whopping 80m+ transfer fee. Here are the facts:
- Shaw is better at defending than Bale;
- Bale is much better at attacking;
- Shaw has never scored;
- I haven't seen Shaw deliver a free kick of note for a long time (even Lovren took the free kick against Swansea ahead of Shaw);
- Shaw will likely only ever be a LB, as I don't see him transitioning to the LM/AML role in the way Bale did;
-attackers attract far higher transfer fees than defenders; and
- correct me if I'm wrong eds, but I'm pretty sure 30m pounds would represent a record fee for a full back.

Given the foregoing, if we were, in addition to a 30m fee, able to negotiate say 20% cut of any future transfer, this would represent excellent business for the Saints. My primary concern is the message it might send to other players - particularly academy players - that we're still a 'selling club'.

Aussie Saint

1.) Player like Lloris Courtois on loan Caulker are these players possible or more of a dream signing

01 May 2014 07:33:27
Not a rumour as such, but is it fair to say Saints are looking for players in the following positions and not others?

1. Striker (first choice, to replace Osvaldo);
2. AM (who can play centrally or out wide);
3. CB; and
4. GK.

I heard a whisper that we were looking for a back-up LB, but don't see much point in that unless we lose Shaw as we've got Targett developing nicely.

I see no reason why we'd look at any further CMs as we've already got a bit of a glut there with Schneiderlin, Cork, Wanyama, Davis, Ward-Prowse and Reed all able to play in that CDM role.

Aussie Saint

1.) Completely agree, GK should be a priority, then CB and a striker, maybe an AM, but I can see a lot of young stars from the development who play AM being able to step up soon, so may not need an AM

Saints never put a price tag on Schneiderlin. The tabloids merely RUMOURED that Saints would request more than what they got for Shaw - which, for what it's worth, was actually GBP32m including add-ons. Notice the emphasis on 'rumoured'.

Schneiderlin isn't budging. Not this season. Will probably leave next summer though. that's my bet.

Forster is a quality signing, and anyone saying otherwise doesn't know a thing about football.

Firstly, Boruc is grossly unreliable. At his peak, he is an excellent keeper with a good command of his area. However, his personality makes him prone to frequent brain fades - two examples being the water bottle incident against Spurs two years ago, and 'that' Cruyff turn against Arsenal last season. His judgement isn't always the best either. gust of wind aside, you shouldn't be getting beaten by a Asmir Begovic goalkick from the opposing 18 yard box.

Secondly, Forster is a quality keeper. Just because the SPL isn't a 'high' quality league doesn't mean quality players don't play in it. He's England's 2nd/3rd choice ahead of Ruddy and a host of others. He's young as well so he represents a good investment for the future.

Thirdly, Boruc is 31 or thereabouts and I can't see him lasting into his late thirties/early forties like Schwarzer. Further, we have no quality back up so a GK purchase is essential.

I honestly believe Schneiderlin will stay. The Club has seriously put itself out on a limb in explicitly stating that he will stay. on several occasions. Far more unequivocal than Reed's vague April press conference where he said bids "will probably be met with a no" and Krueger's end of season interview where he said "transactions will happen".

Did you read this on SaintsWeb or elsewhere? He's solid - would be a better third choice than either Yoshida or Hooiveld, and Stephens is still too young. So far I'm yet to find a reliable source on this though. Regardless, we still need a new first choice CB to replace Lovren.
