Like to see Bas Dost with Gabbiadini.

I agree! Either Bas Dost, or Nicolai Jørgensen from Feyenoord who is very much in the Rickie Lambert mould.

Really think Dost is a marked improvement on our current strikers?

My first reaction would be no, but I haven't really seen him play. Signing him would basically mean the end for Carillo though, considering their similar styles. Personally i'm not ready to write Carillo off when we've barely seen him in action. All depends what Hughes has been seeing in training though.

I agree. You can't write Carrillo off that quickly. He came into the squad when we were at the worst part of the season and he wasn't given many chances to impress. I just hope he stays and does well next season so we can sell him on to Liverpool after Firmino goes to PSG or something. :p.

Carillo showed more than enough in 10 games to prove he has no upper body strength, no foot coordination, no understanding of hold up play and no idea of where other team mates are on the pitch! He is not and never will be good enough to play as a centre forward in the premier league. Our manager, a fine centre forward and footballer, took a week to figure him out and put him in the stands or on the bench to make up numbers. Pellegrinos final act of incompetence was to pursuede the board to part with 19 million pounds on a poor player.

SaintPaul that’s ridiculous. The guy came in last minute, right before a change in manager. Just because he didn’t set the world on fire from day one, doesn’t mean he ducks, sometimes players take time to settle in and find their role, and unfortunately for Carillo we were in no position to give him that time at the backend of last season.

Yet another example of complete irrationality from Saints fans. That’s the kind of thinking that leads you to ‘do a Chelsea’ and allow quality players to leave without even getting a sniff of the first team. I’m not saying that’s what Carillo is, I’m just saying you have absolutely no clue what you’re talking about when you say that he’s not.

If I am wrong then I will apologise on this forum, I have watched enough football and played at a high standard to recognise when a player is way out of his depth, maybe Hughes will turn him into a class act, time will tell.

I totally agree he has looked out of his depth, but then again there is an argument that he hasn't had a chance. I seem to remember Mane taking time to settle, so it could change.

I watched Mane and Gardos make their debuts v Arsenal, Mane had pace to spare and the ability to walk around good players, he always had promise but I agree it does take time to settle but you must have the ability in the first place.

He did look out of his depth a little, but well run teams don't give up on record signings after 7 appearances.

Ok, we’ll agree to disagree as gents and move in. Healthy and impassioned debate is always good, most important is our passion for our beloved SFC.
