Reading in the press that Hasenhuttl has identified Davie Selke as a Striker he'd like to bring in during the January window. Really like the look of this guy, seems to score (about) 1 in 3 and at 6'5 and 23 years old, looks on paper like a younger version of Pelle (Who we never replaced, and crave as a focal point up top)

Also being linked with Dayot Upamecano. though I struggle to believe that one! One of the best young players in the world, can't see what would drag him here (major wage increase aside! )

Yeah, I took the Dayot Upamecano rumour with a liberal pinch of salt! Can't see Saints ever paying the £30m+ fee being touted for the player, but we can hope! :-)

Upamecano would be great, but I find it seriously hard to believe.

I haven't heard of Selke for a few years so don't know too much about him. He does seem to fit the profile of what we need though.

^ i’ll never get this “hurr southampton won’t pay x amount for a player” stuff. Last 3 seasons we’ve spent 175 million inc 22.5 on Vestergaard and 20 on Carrillo.

No one thought we’d appoint a manager like Hasenhuttle either. I doubt we will get Upamecano and it’s likely just paper talk, however Fulham signed Seri and how many people thought that would ever happen? Football is a crazy game sometimes.

I read somewhere that Upamecano has a release clause of £90 million so I don't think we'll be getting him. As for Selke, he's only scored once in his last 12 matches so probably no better than the strikers we already have.

Where did you read about his release clause? Again it’s unlikely but we can hold out hope! In regard to Selke he may not have been at his most prolific this season but RH knows the German league well and if he’s identified him as a target I for one will trust his judgement.

I can't remember where I read it but I think it was one of the online papers. I know they don't always get it right but even if it was half of what they reckon I think it would rule us out.
